We booked a two night stay in this funky hotel.. The suites upstairs are spacious and well appointed and in keeping with the wonderful history. The original doors are very low as is the outside veranda so watch your head... Can be but noisy during peak times but with a visit

Stayed in the Kauri Studio and it was amazingly clean and oh, so comfortable. Simon and Kiyo were gracious and very accommodating hosts. The room set up was perfect with bathroom to the rear and an adjacent garden spot to sit outside. The TV had many channels to watch and after a long drive to Mangonui it was such joy...

We booked at Old Oak for two nights and wish we could have stayed longer. Mangonui became our favourite place of our holiday. The hotel is situated about 200 yards from the Main Street area of Mangonui with an Indian restaurant right next door. We booked the Ponga Suite on first floor with wrap around veranda and great views out...

Greeted by a lovely friendly chap, arrived late, without a booking. Was upgraded with a discount for cash, and the place was quintessentially idilic, beautiful decor, and lovely quiet surroundings. We sat out on the veranda and listened to the tide coming in. Would definitely visit again, highly recommend. Thank you for our perfect stay. 6/3/16

We stayed one night here, but would have been happy with more!! When we arrived Simon greeted us with a smile, enthusiasm, and made us very welcoming . Upstairs we stayed in the Ruru Suite. Beautiful view of the water from our bedroom, where our bedroom door opened up onto the front deck. Lovely to sit and have a wine...

One of the great experiences in a five week extravaganza, made special by Simon and Kiyo's thoughtfulness and skill as hosts The Kauri room at the rear was spacious and very tastefully furnished and on our two days the air-con was a blessing. Nothing was too much trouble and, for example, we were very grateful for the loan of beach...

We had a lovely suite ..with our own entrance..which included a nice veranda with a couple of loungers and a small table and chairs overlooking a garden. We stayed in the Pohutakawa Harbour and Garden view Suite. A nice kitchen with lots of different teas coffees . We were able to cook our own breakfast and sat out side to...

We stayed at the Old Oak for 2 nights. We loved the hotel. Youcould see and feel the history of the place but it has been sensitively and stylishly converted into 6 very comfortable rooms. The location is great, being on the edge of Mangonui which is a small but gorgeous old whaling/ trading port on doubtless bay. The town...

If it was possible I would have given this place 10 stars!!! We stayed in Ruru suite and were very impressed with this cosy little place. Didn't experience any noise problems (no offence to people from previous reviews). Clean, modern and beautiful room. Balcony was heaven. Simon is absolutely marvellous and very caring. We requested for milk and he was...
