Forest Hills Farm & Guesthouse is a family run rustic theme resort tucked in a secluded part of the Nilgiris in south India. With Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and Bandipur Tiger Reserve a hop away, this region offers opportunities to explore the un-spoilt forests and visit the resident wildlife. Time takes a break here in the deep reaches of nature. Accommodation includes double-occupancy rooms, a family cottage, deluxe rooms, bamboo huts, two tree houses and a Machaan, all non-a/c. The rooms are cozily furnished with modern conveniences. The cuisine is delightfully tasty homemade food. It is a charming mix of old-fashioned hospitality and contemporary amenities typical of colonial bungalows. The 'Machaan' or Watchtower, built on stilts at the edge of the property, has Wild Dogs, Asiatic Elephants, Leopards, Gaur, Sloth Bear as visitors. Set in a breathtakingly beautiful valley with the wooded mountains forming a majestic backdrop, the dawn and dusk here is adorned with over a hundred species of birds. Herds of spotted deer are commonly seen grazing in and around the place. True to its name, Forest Hills gives you a combined experience of both the forest and the Nilgiris (blue mountains). Step out of the city and immerse in the sounds and visuals offered by nature.

Detailed Reviews
The "hotel" is actually spread out on several buildings in the middle of the park. One of the buildings has a watch-tower to spy on animals (in one hour, we saw two mongooses, one boar, three peacocks, and elephants are not unknown in this sector [there was some elephant dung just below]). The hotel staff will organize your activities for you: van safari in the national park (cheap) and more safari in the hotel jeep (not cheap and we were out of luck with animals, but at least our driver did try more than all the driver of the other hotels' jeeps). The only weak spot is that the food is average and, being in the middle of nowhere, you won't have any other option for dining. We booked the cheapest room and it was still very good.

Its definitely a very good place to stay over a weekend. We stayed there over this past weekend and it was very nice. Tree house or Machaan is the best place to pick...Staff is very courteous and very helpful...Food i felt is a little overpriced but you dont have much choices once you are in the jungle... Amenities are decent enough...overall a good place...
If you are interested in safari, take the one organized by the forest officials either in Madumalai or Bandipur forest guest house....jeeps will also take you only the main roads...
Have fun...

Before visiting I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place... And on returning from there I must truly say ... if you love nature, love to be in a serene environment and you do not want people to bother you, then it is a place to be. I stayed in the Tree house and what a place...view in the morning is fantastic... and in the night its pitch dark... yes you might hear few animals and lot of sounds... but that is why it is called a jungle, right! The food that is served is truly amazing, the host, Mr. Radhakrishnan will certainly make you comfortable. And if luck favors, you might also see some animals..... Advice to visitors, don't expect a hotel like feeling, remember you are in forest. Look for the wilderness then you will like it...Overall I had a wonderful stay and i look forward to visit again....

We first went to this place in December 1997 , and 16 years later we still go there every chance we get ,the most recent being May 2013. I think this stands testimony to the fact through all these years the place has managed to retain its jungle charm and intrigue. The food and service is excellent. The staff is very helpful and will go the extra mile to make you comfortable. Of course wild life sightings are a matter of chance, however the thrill of safaris remain. Trek and morning walks are other activities to indulge in. What sets the place apart is the non resort feeling it gives and the open access to wild life like deer and elephants. Highly recommended !!
It is definitely not for those looking for gyms and swimming pools in jungle resorts.

+1
We stayed at Forest Hills Farm and Guest House during our recent weekend trip to Masinagudi. The Resort is very beautiful and well maintained and also located in a lovely lush green ambiance.
Tree House accommodation has made our stay even more pleasant. Tree house has two rooms with a common sit out area .The rooms are well designed with beautiful interior for a comfortable stay. We were the group of six members and occupied both the rooms. The common sit-out is very nice where one can sit and enjoy listening to sweet chirping of birds in the early morning or feel the beauty of the jungle at the dark silent scary evening. This is the ideal place for a tranquil weekend gateway in quiet spectacular natural surroundings. One can just go for a guided jungle trek or jungle safari in the morning and enjoy the games and campfire in the evening. The staffs are very friendly, cooperative and attentive. We truly enjoyed our two days stay at this Resort and experienced a perfect relaxing and rejuvenating weekend there.

if you love wild life then this might be a place..There is nothing much to do in maseenagudi except jungle safari..resort has got everything from TT table to lawn tennis court but when in a jungle why to invest time in games...I am not that adventurist else they provide support for trekking..I would prefer going there again but with 6-10 people so that I can have trekking / safari / games and enjoy the resort and maseenagudi to fullest..
We didn't like the food else it was good stay.
More over this place is in jungle with no boundaries so you might spot some wild life in the compound though that is rare scene.
In the safari we spotted herd of elephants , bison and deer.

This was probably my 6th visit. I should have got the review up much earlier.
I landed up in FH for the first time in June 2008. We were sent to ForestHills by the owners of Junglehut as they had, in confusion, overbooked us. Since then i have been making annual or bi-annual visits with friends, colleagues and wife. Needless to say, i love this place. I go there with the sole objective to relax. The place offers great home food and a location which will take your breath away!
In a nutshell, the Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Great location. Right at the edge of the forest with a genuine opportunity to view wildlife
- Quiet location and very clean lodgings
- Great homely food. Different varieties & hygienic
- Very friendly hosts
- Good location for wildlife photography
- The place has a lot of adventure to offer (get the tree house or the Machaan and you wont regret it)
- Close to places such as Bandipur, Ooty & Coonoor
- There is a stream flowing close to the property which is full during the monsoon
Cons
- If you are the restless non-nature type, you may find that there is very little to do (so plan your itinerary well ahead)
- Due to the proximity to the forest, you cant treat this place like a resort (make noise and merry)
- Since the place doesn't stock liquor, you need to get your own, and smuggling it over the border is high risk so basically you are at the mercy of the local brands :-)
- For wildlife/nature lovers - During the weekends, occupancy will be full, and you MAY be stuck with noisy inhabitants so weekdays are best
