Forest Hills Farm & Guesthouse is a family run rustic theme resort tucked in a secluded part of the Nilgiris in south India. With Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and Bandipur Tiger Reserve a hop away, this region offers opportunities to explore the un-spoilt forests and visit the resident wildlife. Time takes a break here in the deep reaches of nature. Accommodation includes double-occupancy rooms, a family cottage, deluxe rooms, bamboo huts, two tree houses and a Machaan, all non-a/c. The rooms are cozily furnished with modern conveniences. The cuisine is delightfully tasty homemade food. It is a charming mix of old-fashioned hospitality and contemporary amenities typical of colonial bungalows. The 'Machaan' or Watchtower, built on stilts at the edge of the property, has Wild Dogs, Asiatic Elephants, Leopards, Gaur, Sloth Bear as visitors. Set in a breathtakingly beautiful valley with the wooded mountains forming a majestic backdrop, the dawn and dusk here is adorned with over a hundred species of birds. Herds of spotted deer are commonly seen grazing in and around the place. True to its name, Forest Hills gives you a combined experience of both the forest and the Nilgiris (blue mountains). Step out of the city and immerse in the sounds and visuals offered by nature.

Detailed Reviews
I went with my colleagues to be a part of team building activities. We were around 30 people and got accommodated in the cottages and tree houses. The place was really good in terms of greenery. The food was good and rooms were neatly maintained. They also arrange for jungle safari if you are interested. There are chances you would get to see some deer if you get up early morning.

Visited Masinagudi earlier this August and the first name that popped up was 'Forest Hills Farm & Guesthouse'. Being nature lovers we decided to book the 'Machaan' and on check-in we knew we had made the correct choice. Built close to the fringes of the forest, this accomodation is the ideal stay for a wildlife or nature lover, the view of the mountains from the Machaan is incredible, and one can spot a variety of birdlife from here.
The food served is deliciously prepared and served on time. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are buffet type with a good spread of Veg & Non-veg dishes.
The staff was very friendly and polite and ensured our stay was as comfortable as possible.
Getting here could be a little tricky, but a call to the resort for directions would make it quite easy to find.
Directions:
Once you enter Masinagudi, drive past the police checkpost till you reach a small bridge, take the second right after the bridge (elephant painting at the junction), follow the directions towards Club Mahindra, once you reach Club Mahindra, continue straight on the tarred road till you reach a temple, keeping this temple towards your right you will find a mud road leading to Forest Hills towards the left.

I've been in India for 10 years and this was my first trip to the Jungle.
Traveling from Chennai to Maysore by train and being greeted by the taxi service arranged by the resort started our trip off right.
Before I move forward I would like to add that the best time to travel through the reserve is between 5:30pm-6:30pm....We saw so many animals and some of them within 6 feet from the car.
Once we reached. ..We were greeted with open arms and taken to our rooms. My family and I stayed in their tree house.
The tree house is small but for a family of 4 with 2 rooms it was super comfy. You really felt like you were at one with nature. So many animals visit near the tree house and if your luckn in the morning you can see the family of mongoose...
At night if you turn off the fan you can just listen to all the animals running around in the forest. That's amazing.
Hospitality @ Forest Hills was more than just service. You are made to feel like your part of this happy family. Staff were amazing and just went out of their way to make our stay amazing . .....
Food - absolutely loved all the food offered. Not sure if it's only on Saturdays you get the bbq grilled stuff...but either way . ....It was all amazing. The veggies were so fresh and I'm not a french fry fan. ....but those potatoes they were using were just so yummy.
It is mainly Indian food. ..but each day and each meal was different. I also loved the fact that all meals were included in our stay price. Having kids and teenage boys at that. ....They were NEVER hungry.
However .....The best part of the entire trip was listening to the kids laugh all day and night. If you have children that are glued to electronics. ...This is the place to let them detache.
Even though there's not much to do at the resort other than volleyball and table tennis. .....We made it work and we just had fun.
There are nature trails and other night safari activities . ...just ask the staff and they will guide you.
If you play the guitar . ....bring it. ..nothing like sitting around the fire enjoying a few drinks and playing music...that was incredible .
Even though we ( 11 people in our group) were only there for 3 nights and 4 days. ...none of us wanted to leave . That sums it up right there.
Few things to note:
Bring enough warm clothes ...and dark color ones at that. A flashlight is super handy. If your a smoker....bring enough packs because going into town is not that easy.
Bring your own shampoo and soaps....even though they provide ...its better to bring some extras.
Bring closed toed shoes...helpful for walking around. Especially at night.
Last but not least. .....unwind and just enjoy!
I'm looking forward to visiting again and a big thanks to all at Forest Hills for the amazing service and love shown!!!

Away from it all in the forest setting it is easy to see why some of the other guests there had made return trips. A good testiment in itself. Food plentiful and tasty. staff friendly and helpful. Sit quietly and experience the sights and sounds in the look out on the Machan. watch animals come to the watering holes, or take a safari in the reserve to see Elephant, spotted deer, wild boar, etc. Sit round the campfire for evening drinks with friends. enjoy a short hike uphill to be blessed in the Temple with experienced camp guides and take in the views. Visite the nearby village, worth seeing (and spending some rupees) jeeps arranged on campus.Stayed in tree house which was basic inside (as it should be), very clean comfortable and safe. Listen to the bears call out to each other, and wonder how close they'll get !! Camp hosts were most welcoming. Highly reccomend.

We went there on the 4th July weekend and stayed in the Machan. You know you are going to like this place the moment you cross the town of Masinagudi. All you see is green all around. The machan when we first saw it from outside felt a bit small but the moment you cross the door you will see a small but comfortable and neat room which has all the requirements for a cozy night stay. When you have the machan why would you want to spend you day anywhere else but on the machan. Enjoying the cool breeze and the green jungle. we did see wild boars, deer and elephants crossing the machan, why would you need to go on a jungle safari!! The food was excellent! Veg as well as Non-veg. I am sure we ended up overeating :D. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. What else can one ask for. We wished we had more time to spend there but unfortunately had to come back. But we will definitely be visiting again!

This place is totally worth the price. We booked a twin tree house. We went there mid october and it was still raining. Deers were right below our room. At night we even heard the distant roaring of a tiger or a leopard.
The buffet has a good spread and the food was yummy. Lush green surroundings. The room, bed linen, towels and bathroom were all very clean.

+1
rest hills is a perfect place for a quiet weekend getaway from the hustle of Bangalore city. Masinagudi is just outside the Karnataka border in Tamil Nadu. It took us about 4.5 hours to drive there with a stop for breakfast. Best to get there early and enjoy the drive through the forest. We got a neat little cabin, tucked away in a quiet corner. The cabins are beautifully maintained, loos are very clean and sheets are really clean too. The staff are very helpful and take very good care of you. The food was brilliant, they serve veg & non-veg and is inclusive in the room rent. In the evenings they have a little bonfire over dinner and you can sit around it and chat, eat & drink. They also have a couple of dogs which are very friendly and roam around through the property. Overall, a great place and ill be coming back for more!
