We spent two nights here and loved the place. Very roomy with beautiful views of Porpoise Bay. We were woken up both nights by the penguins! There are blue penguins that come in from the sea after dark (around 10:30 PM when we were there) and head back out to sea before light (around 4:00 AM). These penguins make a...

Set on the foreshore of stunning Curio Bay where penguins frequent at night this studio boutique apartment is expensive for it's facilities. We paid $220 a night for a large room with no television and no wi-fi, which we knew were not available when booking. The owners are very much hands-off as their main industry is farming. For the price,...

Beautiful location and lovely accommodation.Very well designed to fit perfectly with area. Everything you need to relax and cut yourself off from the outside world. Wildlife haven , penguins, seals and dolphins all can be watched from window although binoculars will give you better chance. If you do not want close encounters of penguins at 5am this is not for you...

We enjoyed our stay at the Curio Bay Accommodation. A very nice Kingsize bed, a spacious room with a wonderful view from the terrace - and at night we heard the penguins coming to their nest. We could not see them, cause it was very dark outside and we did not want to disturb them. But just to hear them...

Stayed in three bedroom cottage. Rustic and comfortable. Wood fire and electronic heating. A bit worn around the edges - broken deck planks. Great wildlife. Good value. Toys, games and books available. Full function all kitchen. Buy supplies before you arrive.

Great accommodation in a perfect location, literally right on the beach. The area is secluded and quiet and the facilities in the room are modern and very well furnished. The hosts are also quite helpful. A delightful stay

We enjoyed staying in our Curio Bay studio so much that we extended for another night ... and if time had permitted we would have stayed longer! This is high quality self contained accommodation that is right on the beach: excellent bed and bedding, high quality fittings and kitchen equipment and lovely owners. The size and layout of the studio...

We stayed in the cottage and had the woodfire burner stoked up to the max. What a lovely atmosphere, situated right on the beach, listening to the penquins at night, didn't get to see them though. Shame I missed the fossil forest due to a higher tide, I will just come back in a summer and swim and soak up...

The best accomodation in the Catlins. We stayed in the boutique studio. This is a luxurious studio with a big and comfy King bed with fine bedlinen. The bathroom is large and with a good shower. There is a fully quipped kitchen incl a big table with chairs and also a washingmachine and dryer. All looks new and is immaculate...

Excellent accommodation on a beautiful location, however out of reach for internet and mobile telephone. All facilities present and in good shape. Owners were invisible during entire stay. In case of emergency you are on your own with no communication outside. And we saw a penguin closeby during the night
