Think of us as your co-working service apartment. Each of our six rooms has a workdesk, and opens into a private sitout. Our crackling-fast wi-fi reaches most corners of the estate. There are lots of areas where you can sit and work, both inside and out. Since it never gets hot, outside is often preferred. We are a small orchard on a ridge with overwhelming views at dawn, dusk, and snow-capped peaks (on a clear day). Our guests love the view, food and climate. Many families have carried happy memories from here. Here, get away from urban madness to a simpler life. We do not offer television or intercoms, but our service standards are very high (see reviews). Our full-service kitchen serves up tasty, healthy buffet meals three times a day. We source much of our raw material locally, and grow some of it ourselves. We also compost and recycle as much as we can. We welcome like-minded guests to stay with us. We want all guests to be safe and relaxed. So we request all our guests to come with RTPCR test reports - this ensures the safety of everyone who stays with us. Our staff is fully trained on Covid safety Protocols as well.

We wanted to travel as a family, to some place quiet and that’s when we decided to stay at the quiet place, Satkhol. First positive was, when we were told by the host that we need to submit our RTPCR test, to stay at their place. This provide us with the much required safety assurance.

Prior to this my family had never stayed in a Homestay. They were all very sceptical. And so was I, as I had promised them they will have a great time. The place is beautifully located on a ridge over looking the snow cladded mountain ranges, the air that you breath in is super refreshing, but what makes a homestay, a Homestay is the feeling of being at home. With Chetan and his family, every meal seemed like celebrating holidays with our own family, gathering up at the fireplace, sharing stories of adventures, playing games, singing songs, cracking jokes, talking facts, politics, holding opinions, explaining them. It was an amazing experience altogether.

Coming to the quality of food, the ingredients were super rich, cooked in the regional style to the perfect taste. The rooms were extremely comfortable, and though the temperature outside was below zero, there was not a single night when we could not sleep properly coz of cold. The rooms and the beds were super cozy to look Forward to after the fun filled nights with the hosts.

The place itself has a lot to explore, many short hikes/ treks to take. But the beauty of it lies in not doing anything, being with yourself and enjoying it all.

PS: Make sure you are bad joke proof because the host has one up his sleeve at almost all occasions :p

When we decided to venture out of city after a year long virtual captivity, we were looking for a place which was safe, spacious and peaceful. Quiet place in Satkhol was the perfect answer to all our wishes. Perched on a hill, away from the hustle bustle of a typical tourist town, surrounded by pine, cedar trees, fruit orchards, colourful blooms... this retreat is just what city dwellers like me want to escape to. Very lovingly and thoughtfully designed, it offers you your own space to unwind n do things which you long for. Very comfortable seats n benches nestled among trees allows you to work undisturbed with wifi connection right there. The views from the terrace are unparalleled.Eco friendly cottages constructed from locally sourced material are very comfortable, homely and private with an ensuite. Uninterrupted internet connection ensures you can work remotely on your projects in an inspiring serene environment. Furnishings n furniture are in tune with the theme of being one with nature. The staff is very helpful, warm and friendly. We became more of a family rather than guests. They took care of even smallest of our needs, be it arranging for conveyance to move around, guide us on our treks in the hills, cook us the food we wanted to eat and much more. There were two of the most favourite takeaways for me from my wonderful stay in the retreat. Firstly, the ethereal sunrise and sunset view from the terrace and unending opportunities to get lost in winding paths in the hills to witness firsthand the beauty n magic of nature... so many exotic birds, butterflies, beetles, bees, insects and myriad range of colourful blooms to see and wonder at. Secondly, our ever so welcoming and warm hosts. Both Chetan sir and Vandita Ma’am are the most loving and truest people you’ll ever come across. I was so overwhelmed by their hospitality and care. They treat you and pamper you like cherished members of their family. The conversations with them and other guests were so refreshing for me. Got to learn so much from very friendly guests. Three days seemed to fly away and we were yearning for more by the end of our stay. And we will definitely go there again very soon to get more n more of all of it. Quiet place offered us soulful solitude and earthy authentic comfortable surroundings to unwind and just be ourselves. All guests get a covid test before coming so very safe stay. Perfect home away from home !!

We spent 6 nights at this beautiful place in December including the new year's eve.
We loved every bit of our stay, the yummy food which not only included the kumaoni specials but also delicious noodles/pasta/stir fried vegetables/pancakes/rosemary potatoes and the hot soups that were just perfect for the chilly evenings. The rooms were cozy and the beds were made cozier by the hot water bottles that were given every night. The view is majestic (if the weather is clear) from the seating place outside with some lounge chairs and hammocks (it was our favourite place on the whole property). There are lots of short/long walks to go around. We enjoyed them all as they were not crowded and had a great terrain with lovely surroundings.
But what makes this place stand out most are the wonderful good hearted hosts Chetan and Vandita and their 2 wonderful children who make sure all your needs are taken well care of. They pampered my 5 year old daughter to the hilt. One can engage in some great conversations about varied topics or play some board games or read some books from their library in the cozy and very comfortable dining cum sitting area that is kept warm by a bukhari. The staff is well trained, courteous, prompt and well behaved. They were quick at serving unlimited cups of hot ginger tea just perfect for the cold weather.
This would definitely be one of our favourite places for a long time and we look forward to another exciting visit in 2021.

Quickly about the place: 6-room homestay with one common lounge/ dining area and a green outcrop with some sitting. Of the 6 rooms, 4 are in 2 mud cottages while 2 are in the owners' house. The latter have a small living area between them, so if you take both the rooms you get that space additionally to yourself.

Rooms: the mud cottages give you some space from the main area, but are relatively smaller rooms, particularly the ones on the ground floor. The house rooms are larger, and I would recommend the one facing the garden strip the most. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable, but have some minor seepage issues that are inevitable in the rains in the mountains.

Property: small, but nicely done. It was fairly empty when we were there so we had enough space to ourselves, but I can imagine it would become a little cramped when full.

Food: very good, but then isn't all food in the mountains so? :) There was decent variety in cuisine and the hosts were very receptive to suggestions. Oh, and they got us excellent samosas from a neighbourhood shop one day - remember to ask for those.

Which brings us to the hosts. We travel extensively, and predominantly stay in homestays and hence have interacted with a lot of hosts, but none as engaging as Chetan and Vandita. They have interesting backgrounds and life experiences, are very good conversationalists, extremely helpful (they went out of their way to arrange a vaccine for us as an example), available but never intrusive. If we head back to Quiet Place, it will be for them above all.

Also, we travelled with our kids, and they had a fun time with C&V's kids and dogs.

Service: helpful, amiable local staff.

VFM: Extremely.

A couple of niggles: there was a fair amount of construction activity in the area when we went, and so was not really as quiet as one would hope for, and the air was also not very clean.

Overall: recommended for one trip at least.

Just got back after a week long stay at the Quiet Place- a pristine clean air getaway nestled in the warmth and comfort of Chetan and Vanditas home. We experienced a great deal of thoughtfulness, hospitality and attention to detail from both our hosts in addition to delicious home cooked meals. Great service. Very comfortable mattresses. Yoga under the sky( if you want to) , forest walks, meals in the open air... utterly refreshing!!!

You can see the Himalayas from the location. It has a fantastic little place to chill out in the evening while drinking coffee and watching the sun set. If the skies are clear at night, you wouldn't have seen so many stars in your life. You can faintly make out Milky Way as well.

The people are warm and friendly. The owner has an interesting story to tell.

If I had one complaint, it would be that food was not great if we look at the amount of money being charged.

The Quiet Place is the perfect retreat/homestay. It's the sort of place that can offer you whatever it is you need from it.

I'd stumbled upon it while looking online for a spot in the hills to read, write and walk. Our time there offered all of that + more; we spent 4-5 days but ended up feeling like it was too little!

Inasmuch as I loved my daily hikes, the time to read, the cool evening air and the slight Himalayan tan my skin acquired, the highlight of the trip was certainly getting to know Chetan, Vandita, their kids and their two dogs.

Their warmth, kindness and our conversations made our trip more than just a getaway from the city. And what they've been able to create, including the community of aspiring writers through the Himalayan Writing Retreat, is really lovely and unique. One would be hard pressed to find a similar spot anywhere in India!

I must also write of the very comfortable and homely rooms, the delicious food, the fast Wifi (for those that want to work remotely), the helpful and cheerful staff, the friendly locals who are happy to help if you lose your way in the thicket, and the view of the Himalayan range (which I did not catch but that promises to be quite stunning).

I look forward to returning soon!

Our stay at the Quite Place Himalayas was for a week, and I only wish our stay was longer. This is the place to go to if you are looking to catch a break from the normal humdrum of a city-paced life. While the beauty and nature around are sure to make you feel inspired, it's the place and the staff that make this experience more wholesome.

We stayed in the mud - cottage, which was cozy and briefly made me feel like on a Kiarostami film. We were there in Mid-September and got a great view of the mountains, after multiple games of Hide and Seek!
The meals were all homely, and warm, just what you need in the Himalayas! Regulars included hot soup, thyme tea (with thyme grown on the premise), and conversations at the dinner table! We also enjoyed a lovely Kumaoni meal and yummy aloo parathas!

The staff was enthusiastic about being gracious hosts, and we were even invited to share a meal at their local homes. :)
If you can't get away from work, then no worries! You can work from the Himalayas, and you will be surprised at the quality of work you produce here. With strong wifi, and nature to inspire, this can be a great place for Writers, Artists, Gap years, Social Media detox you name it. If you are a writer, do check out their 'Himalayan Writing Workshop' a workshop to hone your writing skills.
Be prepared for early morning, and early nights, in the hills, The Himalayan Time zone operates. Close by is a supermarket where you can get cigarettes, tea, and everyday supplies. An ATM is around too!

Around the place is a local town, a temple, and Mukteshwar is around 9km from the place. Do visit if you have the time. (A good trek, if you are adventurous!)

The Quiet Place, Himalayas is exactly where you can actually hear the Quiet, with a view, and a great one at that!

For our holiday this time, we were looking for a cosy place on the mountains that has the warmth and not superficiality of a resort. The Quiet Place is home to a hundreds types of birds and is surrounded by nature trails. The breakfast and lunch is served at lookout lawns that overlook mountains that have the floating clouds in the morning and the snow-capped peaks visible during the sunset. The hosts, Chetan and Vandita are the warmest people I have ever met. The team is super-efficient, who would fix up things called for at 11pm within a few minutes! The food is delicious and as the hosts take into account guests' preferences, meticulously. The rooms are comfortable for families with the play areas and patio spaces. You can often meet a fellow traveller who is a thinker/writer/naturalist/entrepreneur to engage in meaningful conversations over meals. My kids rating it 10/10 says it all!

Himalayan Writer's Retreat was exactly what I was looking for amidst a pandemic, a safe get away to serene beauty. They've made sure all Covid protocols are followed and provided all work from home facilities (wifi and workstations). Not once did I feel alienated, thanks to the lovely people of Uttarakhand who make up the staff. Have to mention the ecologically sensitive habitat they've built. I'm coming again.
