Think of us as your co-working service apartment. Each of our six rooms has a workdesk, and opens into private a sitout. We've got good wifi which reaches most corners of the estate. There are lots of areas where you can sit and work, both inside and out. Our small orchard sits on a ridge with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. Our guests love the view, dawns, dusks & home-cooked food. Evenings are spent by the wood burning bukhari, and nights in beds cozied up with hot water bottles complete the day. Our eco-friendly rooms with fragrant Deodhar (Cedar wood) furniture and large windows have created happy memories for many families and solo travelers alike. Since we're about getting away from urban madness to a simpler life, we do not offer television or intercoms. Our full-service kitchen serves up yummy buffet meals three times a day. We source much of our raw material locally, and grow some of it ourselves. We also dispose of things in a responsible way, recycling as much as we can. We welcome like-minded guests to stay with us. Of course, we want all our guests to be safe and relaxed. So we request all our guests to come with RTPCR tests - this ensures the safety of everyone who stays with us. OUr staff is fully trained on Covid safety Protocols as well.

We visited “The Quiet Place” in March for 2 weeks, and were working from there. We were two families there with our kids and this turned out to be one of the best experience we had in our lifetime and this feeling was shared by all of us, even by the kids (a 4 year old and the other one 10 year). Having been there for 2 weeks, we got so used to it and that we never wanted to come back. This place is a perfect destination if you want to get away from constant noise of the cities. We actually did nothing here, i.e. not visited any local sights or the typical ‘things to do’ you might see on the internet, for around this place. We just let ourselves soak up the local culture there, spend time in the village, talk to families, play with the kids there, the pets there, trek anywhere you want (plenty of them) and that was it, which would let you fall in love and make you come back again. Also, there are 2 lovely dogs (Fia and Po) staying here with Chetan (Owner), our kids used to play with Fia a lot. Internet Connectivity Well, the day we arrived, internet wasn’t working, to our surprise, figured out that there was a problem with the router, but then Chetan took care of it all, and everything was fixed next morning. All in all, we had good speed and up time of 95%, so if you are someone who is 100% dependent on Internet and will lose money, if you are not connected, then it would be a challenge, otherwise it’s all good. Also, JIO works very well there, if you want to carry a spare sim, as a backup, which we did. Staff Very humble and warm people. Kapil, who is like taking care of everything is like a one man army. Then Anand(the Chef), Raju and Shekhar took great care of us, always at our service. In fact, we asked Kapil to take us to his home, which is nearby, 15 min walk down in to the valley, he hosted us at his home, met his family and loved it all. The houses there are mostly made of mud and its something to see, specially for the kids, who wouldn’t even get such a chance to know the existence of such things. Thank you so much Kapil for that. Food Great good, no complains at all, a lot of variety. The breakfast for us was served in the open everyday, at the sitout area, facing Nanda Devi peak. Never had this kind of experience. Malta marmalade is something worth trying. And yes, the chef graciously accepted to cook a separate portion everyday for our daughter to have food with zero spice. Rooms We had 2 rooms from the main house along with the common living area, with a kitchenette (having gas, cooktop and basic utensils) and since we had booked both rooms here, it was just to us and not open to other guests. The mud houses are also great, they are just nearby. The furniture is all made of solid wood, with an aroma of its own. Plenty of books in the common living area and in fact in the lounge too, and it's obvious, since it's a writing retreat. Location Need to park the car on main road and then walk down for like 5 min, could be an issue for aged people, but otherwise its fun. Also, there is a super market just right on the main road, where you park, which has like almost anything you might need. Also, there are variety of birds in the premises itself, so this place could be a photographers delight as well, worth mentioning is the easily sighting of red billed blue magpie, saw the bird for first time. Well, as I titled it, this place is not something which can be described but has to be experienced. Might sound like exaggeration, but we got so used or attached to this place, that the next day after we came home, I somehow could relate to what Shahrukh Khan would have felt in movie Pardes, when he returned to NASA after spending time in his village. :-) Thank you "The Quiet Place"

Thanks Yogesh. I am so delighted to read this review. The fact that we were not at Satkhol for your visit and that the staff took full care of every one of your needs makes it especially satisfying for me. I look forward to meeting in person as well, soon. many thanks, again.

The Quiet Place is the perfect retreat/homestay. It's the sort of place that can offer you whatever it is you need from it. I'd stumbled upon it while looking online for a spot in the hills to read, write and walk. Our time there offered all of that + more; we spent 4-5 days but ended up feeling like it was too little! Inasmuch as I loved my daily hikes, the time to read, the cool evening air and the slight Himalayan tan my skin acquired, the highlight of the trip was certainly getting to know Chetan, Vandita, their kids and their two dogs. Their warmth, kindness and our conversations made our trip more than just a getaway from the city. And what they've been able to create, including the community of aspiring writers through the Himalayan Writing Retreat, is really lovely and unique. One would be hard pressed to find a similar spot anywhere in India! I must also write of the very comfortable and homely rooms, the delicious food, the fast Wifi (for those that want to work remotely), the helpful and cheerful staff, the friendly locals who are happy to help if you lose your way in the thicket, and the view of the Himalayan range (which I did not catch but that promises to be quite stunning). I look forward to returning soon!

Aditi, it was so wonderful having you here. We thoroughly enjoyed your company, and it was zero effort to hang out with you - we actually looked forward to it. The book you left us as an impromptu gift was so appropriate and relevant to my work that I cannot thank you enough. I can't wait to have your back here soon!

When we decided to venture out of city after a year long virtual captivity, we were looking for a place which was safe, spacious and peaceful. Quiet place in Satkhol was the perfect answer to all our wishes. Perched on a hill, away from the hustle bustle of a typical tourist town, surrounded by pine, cedar trees, fruit orchards, colourful blooms... this retreat is just what city dwellers like me want to escape to. Very lovingly and thoughtfully designed, it offers you your own space to unwind n do things which you long for. Very comfortable seats n benches nestled among trees allows you to work undisturbed with wifi connection right there. The views from the terrace are unparalleled.Eco friendly cottages constructed from locally sourced material are very comfortable, homely and private with an ensuite. Uninterrupted internet connection ensures you can work remotely on your projects in an inspiring serene environment. Furnishings n furniture are in tune with the theme of being one with nature. The staff is very helpful, warm and friendly. We became more of a family rather than guests. They took care of even smallest of our needs, be it arranging for conveyance to move around, guide us on our treks in the hills, cook us the food we wanted to eat and much more. There were two of the most favourite takeaways for me from my wonderful stay in the retreat. Firstly, the ethereal sunrise and sunset view from the terrace and unending opportunities to get lost in winding paths in the hills to witness firsthand the beauty n magic of nature... so many exotic birds, butterflies, beetles, bees, insects and myriad range of colourful blooms to see and wonder at. Secondly, our ever so welcoming and warm hosts. Both Chetan sir and Vandita Ma’am are the most loving and truest people you’ll ever come across. I was so overwhelmed by their hospitality and care. They treat you and pamper you like cherished members of their family. The conversations with them and other guests were so refreshing for me. Got to learn so much from very friendly guests. Three days seemed to fly away and we were yearning for more by the end of our stay. And we will definitely go there again very soon to get more n more of all of it. Quiet place offered us soulful solitude and earthy authentic comfortable surroundings to unwind and just be ourselves. All guests get a covid test before coming so very safe stay. Perfect home away from home !!

Himalayan Writer's Retreat was exactly what I was looking for amidst a pandemic, a safe get away to serene beauty. They've made sure all Covid protocols are followed and provided all work from home facilities (wifi and workstations). Not once did I feel alienated, thanks to the lovely people of Uttarakhand who make up the staff. Have to mention the ecologically sensitive habitat they've built. I'm coming again.

It was one of the best vacation we had. Never felt like we are not at home. Chetan Sir and Vandita Madam are the best hosts we have ever come across. The staff are very helpful and ready to go out of the way to help you. The food was as good as home cooked food. The best part was the connect with the nature. We did nothing for 4 days of our stay. Got up early and saw the best view of sunrise and late in the evening the best view of sunset. We loved watching different species of birds while trekking the hills. Just walking through the woods for hours without knowing where it leads to was the best part. We would walk for hours in the hills. Even my 11 year old loved the stay and the people around. She and both of us are looking forward to visit the place again and again.
