2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
SeVi Boutique Hotel is situated on the NE part of the spice island of Zanzibar, directly opposite of the spectacular atoll of Mnemba, a fantastic diving and snorkeling area. With only 13 Bungalows and one Villa nestled amidst our lush tropical gardens, located directly on an isolated bay, you enjoy the exclusivity of your personal piece of paradise. Unwind with stunning views of the Indian Ocean that unfolds from turquoise to ocean-blue and the pristine white sand of the beach. A setting, not only to reconnect with loved ones but also with your inner self. When the tide is low (twice daily), a “reef walk” is an excellent way to explore the oceans treasures and admire the amazing corals revealed. Our staff will be happy to organize this for you. When tide is high, you can swim and snorkel right in front of the hotel. Take a dhow and enjoy crystal water snorkeling or join our in-house PADI center for a diving trip through one of the world’s most famous underwater reserves.

There's not enough space to say how positive my experience was staying here, from the moment our delayed flight landed the shuttle driver was cool calm and collected, it was fairly late in the evening when we arrived but on the way we got to experience how alive the Island is while driving through Stone Town. Upon arrival to the resort we were greeted by happy smiling faces in every direction and we escorted to our sea side villa (literally 30m from the ocean). From our first morning to our last it was a mecca of peace, hotel manager George backed up by a small army of housekeeping staff and grounds keepers keep this hotel running smooth as silk. On the food side of things restaurant boss Juliana keeps things managed just right and her staff is as friendly and efficient as one could possibly expect with great fresh food prepared daily all prepared with local food and exotic fruits. I hope I still have your attention! Waking up to the sun coming over the crystal clear blue waters without even leaving the bed was so serene and magical, I couldn't wish for better. Now as is the case with many of these hotels there's a local guy for everything, here it happens to be Mohammed, he's the guy, that knows a guy lol. He's easily found ust past the hotels land, and he can hook you up with pretty much any legal outing you can imagine. Don't rent a car while you're there, any and all excursions can be booked through the hotel and the cabs are pretty cheap. I'm sure I've lost most readers by now, but there's so much more great things I can say about this property. When I return to the Island next year, there's no other place I'd rather stay. My two small things that I thought could be improved... 1.) A better supply of first aid equipment, and a staff member trained in treating silly little things like urchin stings.. 2.) A larger assortment of trinkets and souvenirs in the giftshop area. Asante Sana George and crew for making this a truly memorable holiday. p.s. Trip Advisor really needs to allow more than ten photos!

We spent wonderful days at SeVi Boutique Hotel Zanzibar. A top location at the beach with a stunning view over the Indian Ocean and Mnemba Island. We stayed in an Ocean View Room which was spacious and very clean. Although we arrived rather late in the evening, the welcome from the staff was warm and friendly. The whole crew of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Absolute top in the SeVi Boutique Hotel is the restaurant, where young chef Daniel and his team make you delightful meals with local and organic products at a standard of gastronomic cuisine at very fair prices. Absolute the very best restaurant we've been to in Zanzibar! Fine dining at a beautiful location overviewing the ocean!

We stayed at Sevi Boutique for our 20th anniversary. The staff is very attentive and nice. The grounds are beautiful and the food tastes great, although a little expensive. They were so sweet to decorate our bed for our anniversary and gift us massages. The downfalls were that during my search for hotels I eliminated places without AC. I think it’s important for guests to know that yes there is AC in your room but there is a open concept (with screens) so the air doesn’t stay. On top of beds being so hard that both my husband and my back are hurting and we got little sleep. I also think it’s important to know that there is construction going on next door so if you’re room is close to it or want to relax by the pool be ready to deal with lots of pounding and drilling. These things need to be done, we understand that but I feel like we should have been notified. I couldn’t even make a call to my family because it was so loud or relax which was the purpose of this leg of our journey so we feel very disappointed. I see others mention cats. Yes, there are lots of cats. I am not a cat lover but they didn’t bother me because I appreciated that the hotel takes care of them. We saw a lot of homeless cats in Zanzibar and it was sad. All-in-all the hotel is nice but I would not visit again because we didn’t get much sleep due to being uncomfortable and also couldn’t relax in the day due to construction. We just left and are absolutely exhausted.

We stayed for 4 nights at Sevi, and felt that the photos and property listing didn't match the actual place. Overall, the room was fine, the pools fabulous and the restaurant just so-so. I am not sure "boutique" is the best way to describe this. Service and staff didn't really feel attentive or helpful. Nothing bad happened exactly, it was just a bland or mediocre experience at a place that has stellar reviews. We sat at the pool with many other guests for hours and not one person from the restaurant stopped by to take drink or food orders - this is a missed opportunity for the hotel as it would have been easy to make a few sales from relaxed poolside guests! The room was really dark and a bit gloomy, with not great lighting. It was large - with steps upstairs to a loft area. Every day, sand and bits of debris lightly rained on the living room from the makuti straw roof above, which seems to have no lining. Gritty seating and floors were a thing. It has a plunge pool which is so freezing cold (under full shade 24hours) that I can't imagine anyone using it besides the cute cats that came to drink from it. We stayed in Room 1 which is VERY close to the road/staff area, so as a result you constantly hear cars, people chatting, and a steady stream of background noise that is not exactly beachy and relaxing. For the price, I expected a more private and quiet space. Housekeeping made very cute designs on the bed each day, with fresh flowers - cute! Each day they cleaned the bathroom they removed all but 1 towel - very odd considering they knew we were 2 in the room. The restaurant was just average - bland, uninspired dishes, heavy on chicken/beef choices which seems so odd at the coast. There was a nice little herb garden that we saw chefs harvesting from, but rarely did any greens appear on the menu. I got the impression the staff was trying to make an effort but knew the food wasn't great. We decided instead to walk to 3 other restaurants in close proximity on the beach which were much better. The property just looks like it needs a little TLC, perhaps some fresh paint and several small repairs in the room. There are cats everywhere - on the sun beds, on the room patios, at the front desk, on all the paths - which was fun for us as we love cats but perhaps a spay and neuter program is in order to control the rapidly growing population? And some flea control as they get on all the beds. If this was my first ever visit to a beach hotel, I would be thrilled. But having stayed at true boutique hotels worldwide, this is more basic and simple than I would have liked, especially for a visit as special as a 20th anniversary. If the prices were reduced and service improved, I think it would match the listing descriptions. When we checked out, no one even asked how our stay was, which says it all. I probably would have given them feedback instead of posting this review...!
