A boutique, barefoot-luxury scuba diving & yoga resort nestled in the heart of Nusa Penida. Enjoy a luxurious retreat in the midst of breathtaking natural beauty at Deep Roots, where you can unwind and recharge in the company of like-minded nature lovers while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
If you want to chill out then you should stay and enjoy Deep Roots… The resorts a few minutes drive up the hill from the beach in a quiet location with grounds and design kept to an architecturally designed standard. All current 10 rooms are spacious and ultra clean along with views out to Agung and ocean. more rooms are planned plus another so there was some building noise in our villa during our 10 day stay but it wax kept to a minimum. There are a fair few steps around so be warned so you’re aware of the extra exercise. It features one of the better swimming pools we have stayed at in boutique type hotels and a big plus. Sun beds can be in demand though occasionally as visitors to the restaurant and diving are able to also use the pool whilst visiting. The yoga sanctuary is spacious and quite apart from the local wildlife that frequent locally…do ensure you fit some sessions in with the girls whilst staying. In room massages are a must whilst visiting so ensure you book. Although both divers we chose not to use the excellent dive facilities on this occasion as we were put off a little when enquiring with the dive manager. They only have one boat and will mix divers and snorkelers meaning if less experienced divers run out of air quick then all divers must surface. I am sure it’s great for those diving for the first though and getting their first dives in.. The restaurant is more cafe style than expected with music playing throughout the day and it would be nice to up the quality of dining in evenings to a more relaxed type setting out near the pool as they did on Friday night band nights. Food was reasonably priced and the good choice just extended so as most guests only appear to stay a few days it should suffice, with a great choice of wines. You are able to get a lift and return to the beach bars and restaurants if needed at a cost of 200k return as it’s too far and dicey on road to walk. The staff in all departments are exceptional and all are happy and ready to please and it’s obvious they all enjoy working with the management and they certainly made our trip enjoyable with the manager Fisson always happy to help with anything. We met the owners David and Louisa who are a lovely couple that have created their dream vacation resort for guests to enjoy here and have plans to further enhance it are in progress. On and island thats known for being very busy and in some cases uncaring Deep Roots excelled as a resort to get away from it all. Thank you everyone

We had an unbeatable stay at Deep Roots! The room was extremely luxurious, the food delicious and the setting spectacular! Nestled at the top of a valley with a framed view of the volcano Agung, the gardens are a pleasure to walk through. The staff were especially caring for our 2 year old son and he loved the unique freshwater swimming pool and huge beautifully maintained lawn! My wife had an energising yoga session in the morning and the SCUBA dive gear was brand new and top quality! So, thank you so much to David, Lou and their wonderful staff for your hospitality. And for your love of Nusa Penida, it really shows in this special place you have created! We can't wait to come back!

We were four people for most of the stay and so had two mountain view rooms, when Mt Batu on Bali reveals itself, it is a fabulous view. The rooms are lovely, large and clean, and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. The yoga, with the lovely Jazelle, for a small fee is, daily at least 3 times a day in the garden shala with an amazing view, and hypnotic local noises. Two of us are qualified divers and dived along with the snorkellers joining them for one day. Just on a snorkel we saw the large manta rays and a lot of life, and our divers were lucky enough to see the illusive mola mola too, to the joy of all the team!
The resort is based around the infinity pool, with the dive centre at one end, and the bar/restaurant to the side. Included breakfast is chosen from the menu items and the restaurant is open all day. There was also live music one evening.
All the staff are brilliant and helpful. The dive facilities are amazing and very professional, the equipment is 5* and the team are brilliant. Chris and all of his dive team, Beth, Louis, Heskey and everyone , are very experienced, and great fun to be around, they made the stay to such an extent one of us decided to stay longer and qualify as advanced diver. Thank you from Simon, Philippa, Milly and Eve.
We didn’t venture out too much from here as we loved being here, but liked what we saw when we did. All in all we would highly recommend this small resort, whether you dive or not if you are in Nusa Penida, you would be hard pushed to find somewhere you enjoy as much as this great place.

This resort was absolutely stunning! Right off the bat, the view is INCREDIBLE. There is a very nice pool with a great view of the ocean that’s right by the restaurant area. The rooms, which are private villas, are very nice and spacious. Although there are many amazing things to do on Nusa Penida, we didn’t mind staying in as the resort is so pretty. Also, the food at the restaurant was amazing! Everything we had was great. The hotel also easily provides transportation for you anywhere you need to go, and they have inexpensive tours of both the east and west sides of the island that you can get. There is also a street with many cool beach front restaurants just a few minutes away from the resort, and they offer a tram to take you there and pick you up. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Nusa Penida!

From the minute we walked through to the bar and pool area the ambience of the place jumps out at you as if you are in paradise. For a place that has only just opened, you would not know it. A beautiful pool area (fresh water) perfect for either a refresher dive, which we did, or your open water certificate. The rooms are beautiful, beds comfortable, and bathrooms where it feels the outside comes inside. We enjoyed the food and drinks menu, enough variety without too much choice. We asked the staff for a barbecue evening on the lawn for a special night which they accommodated. We also used the yoga studio and had a massage. All in all a relaxing place of 5 star quality. The owners and staff could not do enough for us, we will definitely be back for another stay at Deep Roots Dive and Yoga resort.

Just drop dead gorgeous place with very good food. The staff is really helpful and kind. I dove 4 days with Deep Roots and had great dives each time. They run smaller groups than other dive operators, which makes for a much nicer experience. Recommend the resort and the diving. I had an amazing week at this eco friendly - zero plastic resort in beautiful Nusa Penida. The attention to detail is spot on...right from the cold towel and water at pick up to the snack at bedtime. Great food, friendly staff, and amazing views of Mt. Agung. Villas are spacious with very comfortable beds. Their dive centre is well equipt and Asyraf and Heski are very helpful and great dive masters. Yoga practice and massage sessions are available. Thank you Lou and David, you made me feel at home and it was so hard to leave. This is a 5 star hotel, I will definitely be back.

My partner and I recently stayed at Deep Roots in Nusa Penida and absolutely loved it! The resort is SO thoughtfully designed. The hospitality is commendable and smallest things are so thoughtfully planned to make the guest's experience memorable - from the pickup from the ferry from Bali, the delicious welcome drink to the local fruits that we were welcomed with in our room. The room was beautiful with an open-style bath which was gorgeous! The highlight was the scenic view of the mountain and ocean from our mountain view cottage as from the pool.
We only stayed for a night so we were unfortunately not able to explore their yoga classes and diving training. We also wished we had more time to explore Nusa Penida (we could only go to Crystal beach and Kelingking cliff but couldn't go down to Kelingking beach, which we recommend). We will definitely plan a return trip to the island and will be staying at Deep Roots.
10/10 on hospitality, rooms, cleanliness, views, value
