My 2nd visit to Mayallyang homestay after an year, it was as special as the first time. Prestine forests around, sound of the Rongyoung river flowing just below, sound of buddhist chanting and trumpets each morning and evening, it's a perfect place to unwind and relax. Oct-Nov is paddy harvest time in Dzongu, when terraced paddy fields turn golden. Dzo-Tyuim paddy harvest festival organized in Lingthem village in the lap of Mount Kanchendzonga for first time showcased Lepcha culture, arts, food, music wonderfully. Not to miss it when it happens next year again.
We visited here in October, and enjoyed the hospitality/friendship of everyone here. The food was delicious, the rooms clean, the homestay itself set in a beautiful property. Definitely the go to destination in the area, and we'll be visiting again soon for sure.
We took a visit to Mayallang Homestay, run by Gyatso and his wife Samsay, all excited because we had heard so much about it from friends. And it was all that and more, the stay, the surroundings, the sound of the river Rongyoung, ringing in your ears, the chirping of the birds,... Nature at its best. So would certainly recommend this place for people in these tough times, it's called gateway to heaven for a few days. The food was so yummy.. That's the icing on the cake.. Small hikes and trails all on your own you can explore it all without a rush. So guys pack your bags...
Everyone that we spoke to suggested Mayal Lyang Homestay in Dzongu. Cradled in the middle of the dense dzongu region, we stayed there for 2 nights. The location is perfect to chill out, and just relax, enjoying the love of Mother Nature. What we liked most are the hosts, their warmth and pleasing personality made the whole stay memorable. The place is well maintained and very nicely decorated. There were a million oranges that grew in the backyard ! The food made by Samsay was really really the best food we had in whole of Sikkim ! I am going to surely recommend this to my friends and want to go back and stay few more days. Thanks Gyatso and Samsay ! :)
Mayal Lyang homestay is a home away from home, mainly due to the owners running it. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation amidst nature, away from hustle bustle of a tourist location, then this is the perfect one. Food is delicious prepared with love straight from home garden. Rongyong river is just a little distance below, like a private space. You get to experience the Lepcha culture authentically. Mr. Gyatso, the owner of the place is an environmentalist and river activist fighting for the cause of Dzongu region and Lepcha community. His work is really commendable!
