Great experience staying in a fort. The place has undoubtedly fabulous views. A special thanks to Tara Chand ji who took special care of us and made our experience worth remembering. Only thing is we did not appreciate Swapnil ji's attitude as he never responded to our calls or replied. In hospitality it is vital to be alert and available. Which was made up for by other staff especially Tara Chand ji.

Serene and tranquil setting with a picture perfect backdrop. The hospitality was exceptional and at par with the best. We travelled as a family of four along with our two big dogs. The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure a memorable stay for us. A must visit place on your bucket list.

We were a family of four and stayed at mundota Palace over the weekend. This trip was booked on a friend’s recommendation who had stayed at the Fort, since we were travelling with children we chose the Palace. Some things I would like to emphasise on Staff: The entire staff, right from reception to drivers, waiters, housekeeping team was exceptionally proactive. At the time of check in itself they took note of all our preferences connected food, activities etc. Due to COVID they take all order over the phone and execute everything very efficiently. They are just once call or message away. It was raining heavily when we arrived and they very kindly let us check into our rooms much earlier than the usual time- this was very helpful as we were travelling with two children and were very tired after a long drive from delhi. Food: The Indian and Rajasthani food was the highlight. We also tried their mocktails and cocktails, and some continental food - we liked all of it. They take care of everyone’s likes and dislikes and make the food according to your requirement, it’s very fresh and scrumptious. Must try their Lal Maas, Bejad ki roti, Vegetarian Lasagne, and their tandoor starters. Activities: We tried horse riding, the children were ambitious enough to try trot and canter while we preferred to enjoy the walk and spend time with the horses. Very sweet baby horses at their farm ( see picture ) and friendly knowledgeable staff at the polo grounds as well. you will never want to leave the horses after meeting them. We did a Picnic on the polo ground as well and enjoyed tea time by the pool side. The monsoon has done its magic and everything is very green and pretty. Rooms: Very spacious and comfortable, we took a palace suite with a sit out and enjoyed seeing the peacocks from our balcony in the mornings. The rooms are tastefully done up and you really feel like you are staying in a kings house. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Great Value for money. Come for at least two days to truly enjoy it. The best part about our stay is the staff because they really make the stay memorable. The hotel is well kept and beautifully done up with very intricate paintings and art work. We also visited the War Fort in the evening and it was so unique, definitely on our bucket list now. The hotel can only get better with time, we travelled in COVID times but still felt very safe and healthy, and are very rejuvenated after our stay.

Backstory - I have been meaning to go to this place basis how they promote it for almost 3 years now, but then covid happened. Found a special occasion to do so. Turns out, the property sucked more than Ra.One. Seeing the number of people fawning over this place in the reviews section, I had to say Something. And Fast. I see a number of travellers rating the place well. While I am no one to comment on anyone’s experience, my general understanding is in heritage properties, the real estate sometimes is so well put together and genuine, other stuff can take a backseat ( as long as you get good photos and food on time )

Also, in a state like Rajasthan, where luxury can be had at value for money, and personalised service is at its peak, Mundota is a great property which seems like a side project.
Another thing - most of the best reviews seem to come from travellers who stayed in the hill fort with all the bells and whistles, which I am to understand has only a handful of rooms. The Fort below has not been given the same attention, even though it has a bigger expanse and more rooms and open spaces.

Anyway, quick bullet points below of how it panned out for us:

Arrival : Poorly managed. The guard had no clue what to do, it was raining and no clear instructions on where to arrive, no staff at waiting ( I mean the whole idea is to tip the reception so one could at least be offered umbrellas ) , reception manned by one guy failing to prfioritize at all levels, while trying to multi-task and failing

Parking and Valet : They ask you to park the car at the parking near the gate of the palace and walk yourself to the reception through an unsurfaced parking lot which is pure mud and good old water when it rains ( as I got to know )

So if you came dressed to make the most of it, best of luck with your clothes and shoes. This is not a big deal for most - but you’re a luxury hotel so this should not be an issue, especially when its raining Cats and Dogs ( apparently this is the only hotel without directions AND a valet cuz COVID )

Staff not trained - at every level. Reception to food, to room service - everything is a WIP. And they forget things often. Like orders for food given ten minutes ago. Not one of our order came in completion. Their average rate of forgetting is 1/3rd of the order
Fixtures : Air conditioner Leaked through the stay. Inside the room. And no one came to fix it. Good old bucket to the rescue. Bathroom repaired with ply and jet pipe leaking - See the pictures. Pictures taken off walls with the dust frames imprinted.

Furniture - I feel its a huge part of the look and feel of any heritage property. Some bits like sofas and desks are really nice. But drawers and other fixtures are cheap. Not that its a big deal, but not worth what you are paying, especially if you will stay more than a day and will not live out of a suitcase

Bedding : Good beds and mattresses, but their sheets seem to be the same as OYO rooms quality. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but for this price?

Food : The only saving grace. Really well made food. Though they do serve Ketchup with Mutton Kababs for dinner - the finesse of a royal property missing and can easily pass

To summarise, the only reason you go to a property is to get away and chill, not be making calls to front desk for repairs, kitchen for delayed orders and other things. Though that is all we did.

We left feeling we should be paid a consulting fee for this trip lol

I also understand most of the things I mentioned here, a lot would not find that important in a property, but most people are looking for a step up, and this is not. Mundota, if you’re reading this - get a professional consultant. There is a Massive scope for improvement and you guys could be the best in that part of the country if you do it well.

This place was recommended to us by @fabgetaways. The place is like 40 minutes from the railway station and an hour and a half from the airport.. Loved the serenity of the Fort. The ancient vibe is evident throughout the property. The experience was more than amazing. The suites have attached private pools which is a plus plus.. Food was great, more than our expectations. The staff is very hardworking and polite. Tara Chandji, the manager was prompt to all our requests and requirements. Staff people, Sunilji, Bhawaniji and Ranjeet ji were very kind and happy to serve. We also saw the Polo match, did horse riding and cycling around the property. It is great property for staycation. Would love to go again.
