We had a trip to Bolpur Shantiniketan during Oct-21. We stayed in Shakuntala village resort for two nights. I am trying to share my experience.
Location: The property was located just beside the 'Sonajhuri Haat' area. Even sitting on a chair in the dining area, one could enjoy this serene beauty of the Eucalyptus and Sonajhuri trees around. We roamed around this place without keeping an eye on the watch.
Just to add, we faced a challenge with parking due to the gathering in the 'Haat'. We also faced another issue. We travelled there by a tempo traveller. As the height of the resort signboard was around 9-10 ft, someone had to pull the board to pass our vehicle. To be precise, you can't enter and exit fluently in case you travel by a comparatively bigger vehicle.
Accommodation: We took five rooms altogether, room no 9, 22, 23, 24, 25. Room no 9 which was in the ground floor was big in size and had two double beds. Room no 22, 23 were in the 1st floor and small in size. Room no 24, 25 were bigger in size and could accommodate maximum three persons.
Even before going there, I heard many good things about this property. However, I was very much upset with accommodation. Rooms were clean but not maintained.
On 1st day, after we got the room keys @2pm (though the check in time was 1pm but it could be overlooked during rush time), Room no 25 had no electricity till 3pm. Upon enquiry, they informed some electrician and fixed it.
On the same night, one block of the property (unfortunately that block included all the rooms we took) had no water in the bathrooms. This continued for around TWO hours, even the wash basins in the dining hall were impacted.
Room no 9, I would like to mention specifically, did not qualify at all for stay. The remote of the air conditioner was missing. The room had a foul smell, walls were damp. On the 2nd night, drops of water started to fall from the ceiling. Even the staffs were not able to identify the reason. At last we suggested to fix a polythene between the ceiling and the fan blades, which they did.
Food: The food they offered had two parts, a veg thali and add on non-veg. Veg thali was awesome in taste, price was also reasonable. However, the non veg we took on the 3rd day (before check out) was stinking. We had to return all the eight plates of chicken curry and had fish curry instead. Otherwise, food was very good.
Hospitality: I must admit, the staffs were trained, polite and helpful in nature. Sharing some experience:
On the 1st day when there was no water, many guests lost their cool. The manager Kalyan managed it without getting into any conflict. Subha in the dining always served with a smile. Upon request, they arranged for a baul program which we enjoyed a lot.
Overall, the location of the property was the biggest advantage whereas the poor maintenance was the most disadvantage. Room no 9 had become kind of a 'horror movie title' to us. If I am asked, I will NOT recommend this property unless the maintenance improves drastically.

Culturally rich, with good food, and attention to customer requirements. Very humble. The breakfast was a combination of indian and continental. The lunch menu was huge. The prawns, mutton, and chicken was tasty.

We have always been coming to this place to eat and has always been on our top food list with Bengali cuisine.
But on our visit today 3rd March, for lunch we got pretty disappointed.
The food quality has dropped significantly... the service is poor and the food was also cold and not cooked properly.
I guess it’s because of the enormous crowd they got... however the decor still remains same.
Suggest anyone visiting Shantiniketan to try it on a weekday and on a day when the rush is less.

I took my family on a two days' trip at Shakuntala Village resort considering the reviews online about the place. Here are the pros and cons of this place.
Pros:
Always smiling employee who says no to nothing.
Wonderful live performance every evening.
Cozy bed with warm rooms especially amidst the cold December.
The ghee provided specifically from their restaurant was tantalizing to the extent that I bought 1kg on my return day.
Food was delicious and appetizing.
They send the guest details to the local Toto driver so that they can be received at the railway station and brought to the hotel at an expense of 150 rupees.
Cons:
No internet service stating the fact that their wifi router has one issues at the new building.
No telephone connection to call out for room service, so every time we had to go out and instruct the employee even if it's just a bottle of drinking water.
Super deluxe room for 4 person had only two beds placed side by side, leaking flush, no side tables or chairs.
No housekeeping for the entire stay.
Terrible food service with small restaurant and immense chaos at the hands of untrained professional.
Not at all pocket friendly considering the standard of service provided.
Provided tea in paper cups at 15 rupees which in Kolkata come at 5 rupees.
Disgustingly late restaurant service for which I had to wait for 20mins for the fish to arrive after I was done eating all over items.
No special service for the guests and hence they treat outsiders equally letting them all queue up in the restaurant for lunch and harassing the guests.

We checked in on 1st Jan 2010. Though had booking for 3 super deluxe rooms @2500 rs each. The room quality was very shabby. Washrooms were stinking. Food quality was not up to the mark. No room sanitization. Even in breakfast time the utensils used were not washed properly. When asked about room quality, a staff said we are overbooked so you have to manage.
Though we have booked for 2 nights, we have decided to chk out next day morning. We have informed to front desk also. But while checking out, few hotel workers demanded that we have to pay full 2 days amount, which we have denied. A chaotic situation arised, with help of few other guest we finally got rescued by paying extra 100o rs without any invoice.
I strongly don't recommend this hotel for stay.

Been Here Today With My Family For Lunch. Undoubtedly The Best Place To Dine. Also Food Is Very Cheap, Though I Expected To Be Expensive Provided The Kind Of Product & Service Quality They Offer. Next Time, I'm Coming To Shantiniketan, I'll Stay With Them As Well

They were forced to shut down hotel due to some sacndal few months back.
