The Koolwal Kothi is an impressive heritage building in Nawalgarh. With its monumental façade and combination of traditional and European elements, it is a good representative of British colonial architecture in India. It was constructed in 1934, during the time of Anandi Lal ji Hemraj Ji Koolwal. It has a magnificent frontage with stucco decorative colonnades and a series of rooms organized around a central hall. It deviates from the traditional courtyard house planning of the region. Stylistically too, it has more stucco work with very few external fresco paintings, which are otherwise typical to this region. It is very unique in this respect. The main building is a tow – storied structure with frontal triple arched verandah openings and crowning parapets with decorative urns. The interiors are simple with very little decoration in the rooms. However, the emphasis is on bold and bright colors, and the openings are extenuated with multicolor borders or floral motifs, at times emulating tile or stonewall The Kothi has 18 individually designed Deluxe Rooms. where one can witness and live like how the Maharajas used to. You will find the Kothi with antique furniture and a lot of importance has been given to detail to recreate life as it was almost 80-100 years ago. In the Nawalgarh, Koolwal Kothi offers visitors the elegance of a small Rajasthan Palace- like residence with all the comforts of a Heritage Hotel. It captures the charm of the princely city that was built in accordance with the ancient Hindu treatise.Set in a lovely garden, flanking the spacious green roundabout at a corner of Nawalgarh, the Hotel is a few minutes’ drive away from the walled city. With the Hotel Koolwal kothi as base, explore Beautiful surrounding Havelies (e.g. Poddar Museum, Morarka Haveli, Seksheriya Haveli, Jaipuria Haveli, etc), Famous Temples (Salasar Hanuman Ji, Rani Sati Temple, Khatu shyam Ji etc), Famous Destinations (e.g. Mandava, Fathepur, Ramgarh, etc), Taal Chapar (Famous Wild Life Sanctuary)The Kothi is currently owned by Mr. Praveen Khandelwal, one of the descendants of the Koolwal family. The heritage building had been locked and neglected for most of the last 40years. Today the Kothi is a successful heritage hotel run by WelcomHeritage, keeping alive the charming traditions and hospitality in the Shekhawati region.

Our Navalgarh stay was made fabulous by the very caring hotel staff. With sumptuous meals home style cooked with organic ingredients as far as possible
We all really had a great time. The pool and garden areas are very well maintained and the heritage rooms complemented the trip very well.
Special thanks to the manager Mr Rahul for his personal touch.

Lovely boutique hotel. The best bit was the food and the service. We tried lots of Rajasthani dishes at dinner and it did not disappoint. Nawalgarh is a lovely stop if touring Rajasthan. The hotel also arranged one of the best tour guides we had called Sandip. He had excellent knowledge of the place and all the havelis

While otw from Jaipur to Pilani for reunion, we took Lunch Break at Koolwal Kothi. Spacious, clean and Welcoming staff. However, food was average and Kothi feeling was missing. I wish they add more Shekhawati attractions!

I visited Rajasthan with my mom and her friends. We were a big group of 16 ladies. The hotel is divided in 2 sections. One section was totally booked for us. It was like I was owning the section of the property. Some points about the hotel that one can consider.

Music:
I was amazed to hear old songs playing out of a speaker every evening when we sat at the outdoor sitting for dinner. The sound of old songs in the background made it peaceful. The staff also offered me to play my music if i had it on a CD. It was perfect to host a lawn party with good music supply.

Food:
When we travel, I am very particular for the food i get to eat. Most of the places in Rajasthan have good food but the content of oil used in cooking is way too high. This was the best part of the hotel. The food was lip smacking yet oil free.

Gift Shop:
The hotel runs a small gift shop of authentic potlis (traditional purses) and jewellery. Its a perfect gift to take back home for friends and family.

Rooms:
Rooms are great but i faced trouble charging my phone as the plug points were strategically placed (far from the bed). Also the lights are a bit dim in the room. The steps that take you to the 1st floor to the rooms are big. It was difficult for my mom to climb the stairs. But maybe that’s how havelis are.

The hotel gets a few brownie points for its easy access of roads, swimming pool and spa services.

Overall it was perfect!!

It was a business trip and stayed at the place for 1 night. We had booked 2 single rooms and seemed that we were the only guests in the hotel.
The staff was very supportive and on the toes to make you feel better with whatever resources they had.
The checkin was hassle free and we took the rooms near the pool side. The rooms are very basic in nature with simplicity and it is really good.
Despite being a ITC affiliated property, could not understand why water was sent in jugs to be kept in room instead of mineral water bottles. Someone should see to it.
The pool was not at all clean and all idea of having some time in the pool vanished by seeing it.
While everything else was ok but the worst part was food availability. Half of the items from the hotel menu were not available and reason cited was less number of guests. This is not the reason for which you choose a welcome heritage brand name.
At 11pm I realized that my room TV was not working, when called the security (as no other department was picking the phone), got to know that only security guard is left in hotel at night and rest all staff goes back. Great that you have guests in hotel and just one security guard to serve them in case something happens at night. Have really never seen such a casual approach anywhere.

The breakfast again was limited with only papaya and Bananas in fruits and then option to choose from Poori Bhaji, poha, eggs from the menu.

Overall, I will not prefer this place if have to stop in Nawalgarh again, had gone due to the brand name of ITC but deeply disappointed.

we stayed here as part of a large group of 16 on a 3 week tour of Rajastan. All agreed that it was a really gorgeous place to stay. Our rooms were spacious, clean and service excellent. We ate lunch at a fabulous little place run by a local couple nearby. It was warm when we visited so no complaints about the lack of heating. Very relaxing sitting in the beautiful garden too with a cold beer.

The small town itself is crammed full of old havelis and one can wonder the back streets with absolutely no hassle at all. Biggest problem is dodging the cowxxxx, but that is the same wherever you go!

Spent a single night here. When arriving in the hotel, one is pleasantly surprised - charming setting, large and spacious rooms, etc. Unfortunately our stay was somewhat spoiled by a couple of less agreeable experiences. First thing to note is that the housework is not that well done - dust under the bed and in the corners, etc. We were travelling with a group and that evening some of our fellow travellers complained that there had been no hot water for showering, - we ourselves had not yet used our shower. The following morning we discovered that not only was there hardly any hot water, but the water pressure was inadequate to supply the needs of all the people trying to have their showers at the same time - the water supply stopped entirely and my wife was unable to complete her shower properly. I called reception to complain - they did not understand but sent a technician anyway who did not do speak English and who could not do anything. If you want a hot shower and acceptable water pressure, take your shower very early! Breakfast choice extremely limited. For some inexplicable reason they decided to serve us dinner around the swimming pool. In mid-November, when the thermometer plummets after sunset at 6 pm (!) - we were all of us very cold and the food cooled down very quickly too. Dinner reasonable, however. Our programme included an Indian puppet show laid on by the hotel. If they suggest this to you, give it a miss - very amateur and unprofessional! Our programme also included a free massage. They had badly organised the timing and the number of masseuses available - the result was that instead of an hour's massage, we only each got half an hour. Plus the standards and professionalism differed - my guy was a youngster who was far too gentle - all he did was rub some sort of balm on me and it really was not worth the effort. My wife's experience was the opposite extreme - her massage was really rough and painful but the "professional" did not understand English and she had to brutally tell him to stop... Not a great experience. But the hotel setting is great....

Dear Richard, Thank you for your review and your opinions shared. We will take up the issues on priority and work towards improving the high standards that we have already set for ourselves. A few things that I would like to point out. 1) I guarantee you that hot water is always available 24/7. However, very rarely there maybe an issue with the water supply (due to the location etc). This has never happened with us before and we will look into it to make sure it never does again! Thank you for bringing it to my notice. 2) As a hotel we try and offer employment to as many locals as possible. The masseurs that attended to you are locals and sometimes they aren't able to communicate in the best way. I assure you that they have been doing this for a while and their services are received well. 3) We will reevaluate the puppet shows and folk dances which have been one of our highlights for the last year. Thank you for bringing this to my notice. I appreciate your comments and thank you for bringing everything to our attention. I will make sure that my management and I will leave no stone unturned to check and resolve all issues at the earliest and make your next stay a more comfortable and a memorable one! I would like to apologize to you and your wife for any unpleasant experiences on behalf of our hotel and we look forward to serving you again!
