What a fantastic gem in a beautiful area! Undarius is so nice. It is immaculately maintained with beautiful gardens and a great pool and hot tub. The rooms are small but perfectly adequate and exceptionally maintained. Mario is the owner and manager and is attentive to the guests from the time you book (via Whatsapp messages) until after you've gone. HIs staff work very hard and do a great job. The resort is at Chihuahua Beach (the gay beach) which is beautiful. It is in quite a remote area, as Punta del Este is a 20 minute drive away. But you don't actually have to leave. They have a restaurant on site and do breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a fully stocked bar. There's even an honor bar so you can help yourself to beer wine or soft drinks 24/7. I will be back. My only comment about the area is there is not much for the gay traveler in Punta del Este. it is a bit stuffy and lots of annoying kids everywhere. so the best plan is to go prepared to spend all of your time between the resort and the beach and unwind that way. Clientele was mixed too with all parts of the world represented. great place to make new friends. I will go back.

I am sitting in a lounge chair by the pool in a well-planned and maintained garden. It is very thoughtfully executed to create visual privacy and protect its guests from any activity outside its gates. The outdoor spaces offer areas where guests can socialize with their friends and other guests but also allows for quiet and and solitudes when wanted. The pool is a good size and the perfect temperature- not too warm to enjoy in the heat of the day but warm enough to enjoy in the cool of the night. Likewise, the hot tub is a good temperature to enjoy with others in the evening. It is not large so it encourages socializing. The rooms are very tastefully designed- simple, clean, and uncluttered. The air conditioner/heater offer choices for keeping the room a comfortable temperature. There is a sliding glass door on one end of the room and a window on the other allowing for delightful cross-breezes. I slept quite comfortably most nights with the doors and windows open. The resort is quiet enough that I slept late without disturbance. The other guests were pleasant, fun, and respectful. Brits, Argentinians, Canadians, Spanish, Americans, and others shared the spaces comfortably- eating, drinking, swimming, relaxing, and talking in both Spanish and English. Where different languages prevented in depth conversation, people greeted and acknowledged one another making everyone feel welcome. My hosts, Fran and Mario are as attractive as they are kind and attentive. It appeared to me that their sincere and hospitable natures set a tone for the resort that the guests followed. I have rarely felt so welcomed in a hotel. It was as if I were a guest in their home surrounded by others of their friends and acquaintances. The location of the resort is perfect. Only a short walk to a beautiful clothing-optional beach. The beach is spacious and not too crowded. It was an excellent place to walk, tan, swim, and enjoy drinks while watching the sun set. I enjoyed the natural surrounding so much that I did not see the need to visit the city of Punta Del Este, about 20 minutes away by car. I have visited many gay resorts in different parts of the world but this one is, without question, my favorite. I recommend Undarius to any gay men looking for a friendly, restful, clothing-optional resort. For me, it was just sexy and fun enough to hold my interest while not being crass. If I ever find myself in Uruguay again I will make time for Undarius!

We stayed 4 days in Undarius. We werent sure what to expect for our first men only hotel. But we loved it there! The rooms are super comfortable and all with a view on the pool. The heated pool and jacuzzi are amazing to spend the day and night dipping in and out of, with plenty of loungers around the pool to relax on. The breakfast, lunch/ dinner options and self service bar are all perfect if you want to stay put at the hotel. But what made our stay above all else was the owners, Mario & Fran. They went out of their way to make you feel totally at home. They have really created relaxed and welcoming feeling to Undarius. Making you feel at home. We definitly come back! Note: Chihuahua itself was very quiet with little to do in terms of bars and restaurants. This might be because we were there out of season. Not an issue if you want to stay put around the hotel or beach, or if you want to take the 20 minute drive/ taxi to Punta del Este on a night.

Great minimal hotel less than 10 minute walk from Chihuahua beach. Hosts Mario & Fran go out of their way to be as accommodating at possible - beach towels & umbrellas; coordinating transportation. With only two days in this area of Uruguay and no car, we chose not to leave the hotel except to venture to the beach. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel; lunch and sunset cocktails at the beach bar Explora, as in Dora. We highly recommend Undarius, Chihuahua & Uruguay for your next beach vacation.

We stayed at Undarius for 5 nights on our way from BA back to the US. While we decided to give this place a try, in part because other reviews on this site are very positive, our experience surpassed our expectations. From the moment Mario picked us up at the airport we were treated like old friends. After a few minutes' drive we pulled up to the property--while small, it's beautifully laid out around a central landscaped pool. Our double room was spotless and comfortable if not luxurious and consisted of a queen bed, small desk with chair, an open wardrobe/shelf area, and a glass shower open to the room. The toilet/sink are in a small separate room; the floors are tiled throughout. Food: Breakfast is included and is an "enhanced continental" type with lots of fresh fruit, croissant, cereal, toast, scrambled eggs, ham and cheese. This is served in the small cafe off the reception area. You are also able to order lunch (several hot and cold options) as well as dinner (salad, main course, drink and dessert). An honor bar is available all day with sodas and beer, and you can also request reasonably priced cocktails/wine whenever you'd like. Service: Mario and Fran are wonderful hosts, warm and outgoing without being obtrusive. Their son Fran Junior was also there and was impeccable. The rooms are carefully cleaned daily. Pool: Not large enough for real laps, but refreshing. The small hot tub is adjacent to the pool and this was perhaps our only complaint--that it wasn't really hot and instead warm to lukewarm. Vibe: Because it's such a small, family-run place, you will get to know your fellow guests at least on some level. So come prepared to make friends. A lot of guests are repeat visitors from Argentina, Montevideo and other locales. It was very relaxed and chill. Locale: Chihuahua beach is gorgeous and just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. The surrounding neighborhood is wooded, with a variety of holiday houses and dirt roads. Zoning forbids large/tall buildings and this makes for a very peaceful environment. While there is a little market nearby, and a few bars and restaurants that aren't far, we took all our meals in the hotel so we didn't experience other options, or the showy glamor of Punta del Este which is about 20 minutes by car. Overall, a really special place. Mario, Fran and Fran Junior are to be commended for the experience they've constructed (and they literally constructed the buildings with their own hands). We hope to be back sometime soon.

Undarius Hotel is simply a slice of paradise. The only problem with this property is that it is small and very popular, I was only able to get a bed in one of their two, four bed dorm rooms for 2 nights, for my last minute trip. Next time I'll be smarter and book ahead. The owners, Mario & Fran are just fabulous. Genuine, warm kind and welcoming guys who are running a very professional operation, while maintaining a super relaxed vibe. As mentioned I was in a dorm room, which was fine sleep wise and a good option if you're a solo traveller on a budget. The rooms themselves are immaculate and cleaned spotlessley every day. For me the pool and lush tropical garden is the standout at this hotel. You can quite easily spend your day relaxing by the pool, helping yourselves to drinks from the honour bar and having the guys prepare lunch for you. The beach is a few minutes walk away and I highly recommend you make it there for the sunset party at the beach bar. Breakfast is served each morning, and I simply delicious and beautifully presented. Eggs, croissant, ham and cheese and tropical fruits. Dinner is also served in the evenings and is again simple and delicious with the choice changing daily. Ubdarius attracts discerning gay travellers from around the world. I highly recommend you visit!

Perfect spot for those who want to be close to Punta del Este but not among the crowds and high rise buildings. Undarius is "boutique friendly" with a strong emphasis on service and making you feel comfortable. Not luxurious but clean and designed with good tastes. Minutes walk to the beach or poolside. The choice is yours. Mario and Francisco make you feel like you are their very first guest. Great!
