I have stayed in this hotel twice. This is a lovely hotel in a great location. The staff is friendly, and the breakfast is great. Portezuelo is my favorite beach in Uruguay and is far better than Punta del Este in my opinion. I have read some of the other reviews, and agree that sometimes it is difficult to reach the hotel by phone. I always speak in Spanish with them, so I am not sure of their English skills. Additionally, the rates in January and February are +300/night, which is very expensive. In the off season, however, this hotel runs about $135 a night, which is a great price for the spot. Additionally, when you are there off season, you virtually have the place to yourself, are a five minute walk from the beach, a five minute drive from Casapueblo, and a 10 minute drive from Punta del Este. I would definitely stay here again but when the rates go down.

I wish I had read the last 2 reviews before I left and not after. I had been really looking forward to the stay (had heard good things about thus place from friends who stayed here in 2008). They didn't have an active website. Making a reservation was tough because had to call by phone-- email response was slow. Then it took 2 wks to find someone who spoke English who could make the reservation. The place was very run down, pool was drained, and the place wasn't even half full. Was very welcomed upon arrival, but learned that there was only one person who spoke English and he was there for 1-2 hrs every day. Tried to arrange transport to punta del este. Hotel staff unable to help--had to do it on our own. I tried my best broken Spanish to communicate with staff to get room cleaned, and other small requests. One of the staff, a woman, got angry at me for bothering her. She yelled at me, then would rudely ignore me the rest if the time. I felt that we had to figure everything out; that there was no functional concierge service. Staff, as mentioned, were unbelievably rude. After 3 days, we demanded to cut our 6 day reservation (suddenly an English speaking person came immediately to get us to change our minds). Went to AWA boutique hotel in Punta del Este where actually were treated great and had a vacation. Can't forgive the treatment at Posada Aldila. Even some Spanish speaking tourists told us that they weren't treated much better. Don't know how this place declined so much, but it truly was a disaster. Didn't save money to come to this beautiful part of the world to be treated so badly!

This hotel does not cater to English speaking tourists. Terrible even with reservations. Unfriendly staff, rude. Please do yourselves a favor and don't stay here!

Me and my friends tried to stay in this hotel for a vacation in Punta del Este. We tried over wks to make a reservation--couldn't find anyone who could speak Englsih. Had to call because the website did not work, and we got no response by email. Once we made a reservation, we didn't get confirmation, though we requested and were assured that the reservation was secure. When we got there, there was no record of the reservation. The hotel was booked and we were denied any rooms. Luckily, we were able to find rooms at the far superior La Bluette. The level of disrespect and poor service is inexcusable. Don't make the mistake we did. Don't waste your time.

Typically a "posada" is considered to be a small, family-runned establishment with home-cooked meals. Posada Aldila offers this but it takes service delivery to a whole new level with its delicious contiental breakfast, that includes crossants, scones and freshly squeeze organe juice, and super friendly staff that is willing to help you in any way they can: from lending you uruguayan pesos until you find a bank machine to suggesting lovely restaurants and excustions you can do even on a rainy day. It ideal location just two blocks from the beach, give you the option of running along the beach (highly recommneded during the sunset hour!) or simply relaxing by their pool to enjoy their breathtaking view of Punta Ballena. Clearly, this 12 room property resembles more a sofisticated "boutique hotel" than just a typical posada, paricularly given their enviromentally-friendly approach to re-cyclig water and use of biodegratable shampoos and detergents. Congratualtions for being so visionary and for caring so much about the mother nature that surrounds your peaceful and very beautiful posada! Also thank you for the delicious "parrillada" (photo attached).

Beware, this B&B is not located in Punta del Este. If you want to be in the heart of things, or within walking distance of town center then this is not the place for you. This place is about a 10-minute drive to PDE. However, if you want to be outside of the crowd and be 5-minutes (walking) from a beautiful but quieter beach, then this may be an option. This place is small (about 6 rooms), so it is quiet. This place would probably be best for couples who want to spend a relaxing and quiet time together. Grounds are well maintained. Bed is comfortable, but the pillows weren't, and there was a 'not quite so fresh' feel to the pillow. For photos: http://thelittleyaris.blogspot.com/2009/12/aldila-bed-breakfast.html

I have to say that we were disappointed with this place. The pictures of this place looked great but when we got there the pool was under construction. No one let us know this and it didn't look like the beautiful grounds we were expecting. Pedro was very apologetic though and gave us a discount on our rooms, which were very nice and clean. Having said that, they definately had some water issues. We were there for 3 nights and every day at least once or twice we had to let them know there was no water in the room. If we did have water, the pressure was so bad it took forever to get the soap out of your hair. I think this would be a wonderful place to stay if everything was working properly. So my advice would be to ask the questions when you book and maybe follow up just before you go to make sure. I probably would not go back to this place because of the many issues we had but I do think it has potential to be a great place.

I stayed at the Aldila at the Begining of January with my girlfriend as part of a 3 week trip in South America. I have nothing but good things to say about Aldila and it was definitely one of the highlighs of our trip. Right from the start of our stay the service of everyone involved with the Hotel (if you can call it that.........it's more like a huge house) was absolute fantastic, and the owner - Pedro - bent over backwards to make us feel welcome. It's only a couple of minute walk to a great beach with amazing sunsets, but even if you dont like beaches the pool area is excellent too. There isn't really a restaurant at the accomodation though they do provide a good healthy breakfast and snacks if needed, however Pedro was more than happy to give recomendations for both dinner and lunch depending on where in Punta you wanted to go. Punta as a place is great and I deffinitely intend to go back at some point and see no reson to stay anywhere else other than Aldila

We booked for Christmas and New Year some 10 months in advance, and we had to pay upfront. We were a little apprehensive about doing this, but once we arrived, we weren't disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Staff are all very friendly and helpful, although they did have to cope with my limited spanish. The pictures on the website are exactly what you see. The breakfasts were delightful and served outside on the veranda. A different cake / pastry was freshly made each day and it added a personal touch. The beach is a 5 min walk, and the hotel kindly provide beach chairs and parasols. There aren't many places to eat of an eveing within walking distance of the hotel, however Medio y Medio is a real gem, a real family amosphere and by the end of our stay, we were met like old friends by the owners. We thoroughly loved Posada Aldila and wouldn't hesitate in returning to the same spot. A lovely relaxing break with staff who couldn't do enough to help. We will definitely return.

Last month my husband and I enjoyed three nights stay at this pretty inn. PROs: gorgeous locale, quick walk to a huge, empty beach, lovely building and grounds with very nice appointments, great pool w/ drink/food service, cable TV w/ lots of english channels, nice breakfast, fine toilettries, our second story rm had a fireplace (we did not use) and balcony (we used a lot). CONS: no greeting upon arrival, we did not know what the hotel had to offer (wine cellar, room service, gym, "home theater", complimentary breakfast, etc.), staff has minimal english which is fine but I also did not feel like they were trying to work with my poor spanish, super high prices on wines from their cellar (go to the grocery store down the street) Pedro, the owner, seemed to avoid the guests, the worst massage I have ever had, and the worst part that almost ruined our stay - THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BED EVER. Honestly, I think we were sleeping on a box spring?
