A great shame because I am sure many make the effort to travel this far, but it really is just worth a photo - not a nights stay.
That said, they kind of know they don't have the most luxurious hotel on their hands because it cost about £36 a night.
Hip Hotel books have a lot to answer for - exciting us into believing it was cutting edge...great shame...but if you are in Uruguay and don't mind a long drive to an ok seaside resort - take a camera and pray for a sunny day!
sadly, it looks better from outside. the hotel is in some need of maintence, and the staff are in some need of customer service training. not to mention the hotel restaurant (luckily you can order in from local supermarkets/takeout)
the service and ameninties dont reflect the five star rating that this hotel has, but its still an experience to stay in this impressive edifice.
There are 2 pools, but for 4 days of our stay, we assumed one of the pools was green, only to find it was full of algae and was cleaned out after several days of being there. There is a spa and poorly equiped gym, but again suffer from poor maintenance.
Casa Pueblo COULD be fabulous, but currently it's just not very good and that's the frustrating part...Ballena beach is by far the best in the area as a beach and is seeing a very swift development of private housing due to the superior quieter strip of sand on this side of Punta, but aside from that, and if you're looking for great restarants and bars, it's all about La Barra, which is minimum 30 mins by car, and on average 1 hour back when La Barra is bumper-to-bumper traffic from 1am onwards.. Bored of driving, we did have 2 very nice meals in the hotel restaurant- food great, but ambience leaves much to be desired...some simple touches of lighting, spending some money of decent furniture, and with a little bit of attention to detail, this could be made to feel much more special.
Needless to say, after spending 3 hours on average in a car each day just getting from and back to Casa Pueblo, we needed to get back to Buenos Aires and enjoy some relaxation for the rest of our trip.
Due to high season, we were forced to pay upfront for our entire stay, and do not hold out much hope of getting any of our money back, and the attitude of management did not care to enquire for reasons why we were cutting our stay short..they're too busy counting the money at this overpriced, sub-standard establishment.
- Unique architecture.
- Nice views.
Cons
- There is no internet. Despite charging for it and promising it both on its website and at the front desk. I was instructed to use the internet at a gas station several kilometers away. The internet did not work there either.
- The facilities are in disrepair. The furniture, fixtures, and appliances are old and poorly maintained.
- The hotel is heavily overpriced with room rates at approximately $350/night in March.
- The hotel and surrounding area are crowded with tourists and non guests. There is a museum next door, and there are unannounced private events at the hotel that make facilities inaccessible.
- The hotel is very far away from the points of interest in Punta del Este, and a car is required to get anywhere.
- The management is unwilling to speak to guests about their concerns with the hotel, and they flat out stated (via phone to the receptionist since they were unwilling to speak to their dissatisfied guests directly) that the fact that the hotel did not offer what it promised online did not entitle anyone to a cancellation/refund to go somewhere else.
- There are no refunds. This is especially problematic as you'll want one as soon as you get there.
Conclusion: Not as promised. Stay away from this hotel.
The best part of the hotel is the view and the peaceful ambience, surrounded by the sound of the sea. The hotel is not modern so don't expect luxury in the rooms, but its decoration is picturesque and nice.
The restaurante has really good food and is not expensive comparing prices in Punta del Este. The sunset is the best! Don't leave without watching a sunset while enjoying a delicious "clericot" (great typical beverage with white wine and fruits). You can find it in floor -9 right in front of the sea.
The view from every one of the rooms / apartments its just speechless.
Great venue for events and weddings!!
Stay for the view and in spite of the aging fixtures and hope that you have no serious issues for which the hotel will surely not be accommodative. Otherwise you'll be back at the gas station, as I am, to warn other potential guests while booking another hotel.
