Detailed Reviews
We were scared of going to the Barcelo after reading the previous review, but had a wedding there so we opted to stay. While the Barcelo is not in Punta proper, it is on a a beautiful lagoon and the property and grounds of the resort are very pretty. Best to take the all inclusive package, as there is not much else around, but the buffets are decent and the service is good. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a view to the grounds and the lake. On certain days they switch it up and offer an asado (outdoor grill), which was very good. My friend's wedding there was beautiful and they did a great job. The motion sensor lights in the halls are a little strange, and we did have a screaming child across the hall...but I don't necessarily blame that on the hotel. It's a good place to go to with a family, as the hotel staff provides lots of activities for children throughout the day.

I think the hotel is TOP for the price paid. Awesome views, located in a lovely spot surrounded by nature. Golf is simply majestic and green fee is offered if you're staying at the hotel... can't honestly ask for more given the room rate. Views are simply breathtaking. Can rent pedalos to go in the lagoon. If you like golf and nature, that's your place

This hotel has everything you need, really everything, Iām surprised! They have golf , mini golf, spa, tennis, paddle , bikes, video games, table tennis, gym , daycare for children, pool inside and outside... and more things. It is located in a very peaceful place, I do recommend this hotel. The rooms are good too and bathroom good with the style of this part of South America. If you wanna spend good family time in Punta del Este, this hotel is a very well option!

Bad Food, Bad Service, bad accomidations and more of a 1 star hotel than anything else. I do not recommend at all!!! I stayed 4 days and it was miserable! There are plenty of nice hotels around, no need to stay here. Shabby and cheap to say the least.

Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay. This hotel is advertized as being in Punta del Este, it is NOT. It is at least a 25 min drive from Punta. It is located on a gloomy lagoon with a dirty pool nowhere near the ocean (we never saw a person in the pool or lagoon.) When we checked in at 1am on our prepaid hotels reservation, they had never heard of us. Luckily someone had cancelled an hour before we arrived so we could stay at least the night. (Apparently the person that knew how to check the emails from hotels had quit a month ago, and nothing had been done about it by either party. This had not stopped hotels from selling the hotel, apparently a coulpe tried to check in earlier that day and the closest hotel they could find availablity in was one hour away.) Walls were paper thin, we could hear the party in the lobby until 3am. Lights in the hallways were on motion sensors, lead to a very creepy feeling, as you opened the door, the cooridors were pitch black. Listened to an alarm going off in the lobby all night the second night.
Breakfast was dismal. Advertized highspeed internet in the rooms turns out to be one terminal by the front desk that is frequently used by the front desk staff for personal business. For a funny note, hotel is built in the middle of nowhere, but they apparently didn't have enough room to build a parking lot, cars are parked all over the entry way drive and in the check-in circle. Lots of families with little kids. I'm sure at some point this was a decent place, but it has gone downhill fast. If you want to experience Punta del Este, do not stay here. Look into the Conrad, Serena Hotel, Millenium or booking an apartment if you want to be where there is a nice beach, restaurants and action. We loved punta after we got away from the Barcelo Club. If this is the ONLY option, do yourself a favor and rent a car. (Its miles from ANYTHING! -- except golf.)

My husband was invited to speak a conference in Uruguay so being the good wife that I am I tagged along for the ride. The hotel is on a beautiful piece of property with a great lake beside it and a boardwalk to take nice walks. I loved the size of the room especially since it was the presidential suite in the hotel. The balcony was facing the front of the hotel with a view of the lake. The furniture was quite old probably dating back to the early 90's. The balcony is great especially since it is was a wrap around! The food was quite bad I saw mold on the wheat bread and there were flies on the food. If you don't speak spanish you may have some problems here. There is 1 person on staff who speaks english (front desk) but the bar staff, waitstaff, housekeeping all speak spanish. The staff were very accomodating, professional, and attainable. The pool was great. There is a swim up bar. We didn't see too many people in the pool because it was Uruguay's end of summer. If you like tennis there are tennis courts and if you want to take a nature walk there are paths for you. If you looking to hang out in Punta you have to rent a car. The resort is pretty secluded. The good beaches are at least an hour away and Punta is a good 25 minutes away. You can always get a cab to take you around. I had internet connection and it was fine no problems what so ever. The entire hotel was booked for the conference so we had nightly entertainment but it was provided by the conference so I am not sure as to what the hotel does on a regular basis. If I go back to Punta del Este I would not stay here again it is just too far from everything (except golfing), the rooms are dated, and the food was horrible.
If you plan on staying on the resort and not doing too much this the place for you. I hope this review helps you. Happy Travels!

This resort has not been maintained properly for a number of years, and the pictures do not show it. It's run down and most of the rental equipment is either broken or worn out. Althogh the rooms are ok, the rest of the hotel is not. There are areas of this resort that has not been used in Years, but there is nothing indicating this when booking. The price is also ridiculously high for this poor quality

Pretty much the reviews I read had it exactly right. The lakeside setting is quiet and calming. But the property is absolutely showing its age. I found the food quite good and while the service was not over the top most of the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. But for early march with some very warm weather the hotel Defintely had an out of season feel. The staff seemed surprised that anyone would be in the pool - and many activities seemed to have been putto bed for the coming autumn. We were part of a small conference so the lack of activities did not matter but if you were here on vacation for more than a day or so you could become stir crazy and there is very little in the vicinity. I also advise a rental car as there are some wonderful places to visit further along the coast but you have to have your own transportation.

So anyway, we were desperate to find accommodation in Punta and this was the best we could get. This hotel is great for a family getaway and is all inclusive...but not if you want to sample the high life in Punta del Este! Taxi ride is approx 20mins into town. Hotel has beautiful location overlooking Laguna del Sauce, however it is literally in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are very large with terraces/ balcony. Interesting art work adorn the walls and corridors. The pool is huge and was the best thing about the hotel...you can do a lap then swim up to the bar and have a beer and popcorn...fantastic! There are also tennis courts, an indoor pool, a golf course and a spa. However, the food was awful, very bad quality...had it been better I might have considered staying for the pool alone. The front desk staff were very nice and very obliging, especially when we decided to move to another hotel. As we were only stayin in Punta for 3 nights, we decided to move to a more central location. However, for the price I really can't complain about this hotel...if you are looking for a total getaway from the hectic life and are not fussed about food but love to drink and swim then I recommend this hotel!

Large, clean rooms; excellent facilities and staff for children. I would say this hotel is ideal for familes.
I suggest improving the quality of the ingredients used for preparing breakfast which, though aesthetically pleasing to the eye, leaves a lot to be desired.
