We weren't quite sure what to expect of a hotel in a small town in the south of the South Island of NZ, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our group of 13 arrived late afternoon and after a warm welcome were quickly shown to our rooms. Most had ensuites but those that didn't were located close to the bathrooms. Tea...

We spent a couple of nights here - the first before walking on the Humpridge track and then on return after a bit of a hiking injury. This is an older style hotel so don't expect fancy furnishings but it is very clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast is good with enough choice. The hospitality was fabulous - the owner...

A quaint hotel located on the main street through town. Bar served quite nice drinks and pub meals. We had crumbed scallops with chips and salads and fish with chips and salad. Both prepared to order and really huge serves. Nicely done for a wee country hotel. Hotel rooms are very basic and somewhat threadbare. It does seem that the...

Returned to Tuatapere after 20 years. Much more developed but still a lovely small town. The accommodation in the Hotel was great. As we were staying a few days we were given Nan's Flat which consisted of a separate lounge area and a full kitchen. There was a sunny area you could sit out on if the weather was warm....

Tuatapere is a tiny community for whom the Waiau Hotel is the main gathering place. It's a cafe, a canteen, a pub, a games centre, a gambling room, a sports centre, a budget hotel. There's a convenience store and unattended gas station nearby, but little else in town. The sprawling and labyrinthine Waiau Hotel is run by an accommodating couple...

lovely friendly place to stay, I feel like I am going home each time I stay here. Within walking distance to my family, local shops and restaurants. Love the seafood/blue cod meals that this hotel provides. Also in season the yummy bluff oysters and whitebait patties for breakfast.

The husband and wife who run the place were very sweet and the hotel was perfect for us given that we were doing the Hump Ridge Track. They set aside two rooms for us and let us use the laundry even though we arrived rather late in the day. The bar was fun as well. A real gem of a...

We have stayed here before when on A bike tour with friends on our Harleys and this year I promised them a ride down the Wairaurahiri in some other friends jet boat so stayed at the Waiau for the night. We arrived in rain and we were immediately detoured to a shed out the back so we could store our...

With a group of 14 I stayed at this great pub the night before the Humpridge track. The service was great. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.A member of our party had a sudden medical problem, so the bar tender lent them her car to drive to Riverton!! The rooms were comfortable and quiet, looking out onto...
