‘Contemporary country house with the Cotswolds warmest welcome’ Set high on an escarpment overlooking the Severn Vale this 45 bedroom country house hotel lies between the Cathedral City of Gloucester and Regency Cheltenham. Hatton Court provides the right balance between traditional hotel service and all the benefits you would expect from a contemporary hotel. The Tara Restaurant is renowned locally. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Cotswolds. Hatton Court is a reassuring size; not large and impersonal, nor too small. As a former splendid Cotswold home the feeling is of being eminently comfortable as opposed to grand. Nothing is hurried. The reception is very much a lounge, with leather sofas, magazines and an open fireplace for those chillier days. Next door the bar is more a place to relax, take tea, read and talk than to rush. The care taken to prepare the food, combined with a smiling service, is complemented by the thought that has gone into creating the Tara Restaurant. Fully refurbished in late 2009 the natural colours and soft lighting make a relaxing environment for friends and relations to enjoy each other’s company. Private dining facilities are available in the equally well appointed Cotswold Room. The peace of the surrounding countryside and comfortable bedrooms, some with whirlpool baths, make for a good night’s sleep ready for another day exploring the Cotswolds.

Perched in a serene Cotswolds location, Hatton Court Hotel captivates guests with its stunning elevated views. While the rooms are celebrated for their cleanliness and scenery, some visitors have suggested they could benefit from modernization, citing issues with noise and temperature control. The hotel's amenities and picturesque setting receive applause, though calls for updates are evident.
The service garners commendation for its professionalism and friendliness, despite occasional inconsistencies reported. Guests relish the hotel's welcoming atmosphere and cleanliness, yet opinions on value vary, with meals and extras sometimes considered overpriced.

Detailed Reviews
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in Hatton Court. There were some really great things, and some not so but could be improved fairly easily.
The location of the hotel was perfect for us with easy routes to Gloucester, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Bourton on the Water, The Slaughters and Bidbury, all places we visited. Also very very close to the hotel were two places with beautiful views, Painswick Beacons and Robinswood Country Park. There were plenty of walks around the area and staff could advise on this.
The staff at the hotel were incredible, all so friendly and helpful and would chat and answer any questions you have. This includes reception, bar and restaurant staff. Checkin and checkout was very smooth.
The hotel itself is gorgeous with a lovely bar and restaurant with a traditional feel. Our room was also lovely, with wooden beams and a lovely old fashioned window looking out on to a field which was refreshing. The room had most facilities but no tea and coffee in the room from the offset, we think you had to request this. Modern small TV. The WiFi was not good at all and most of the time we did not have signal which you may want to bear in mind if you require during your stay, staff did try to help us with this. The bathroom was clean but shower did sometimes change from hot to cold and power increased and decreased. The bed was unfortunately not comfy for me and I felt I could feel the springs so this may need replacing. Would be ok for one night but no more. The other thing I noticed was when checking if anything had gone under the bed before leaving, I pulled the bed out to find a used condom wrapper which I’m glad I found when leaving. Perhaps an area to note when cleaning rooms.
Lastly we had an amazing evening meal in the restaurant with great service and tasty food. For breakfast we did have the option of room service which we did for 2 mornings and this came on time and was nice. The other 2 mornings we had breakfast in the restaurant which didn’t go quite so well. Not everything came out together so we ended up eating at different times and also a few visitors had a lot of their orders wrong. We also ordered one coffee and one tea but only got one or the other. The evening before we had to complete a sheet to say what we would like for breakfast so I’m not sure where the confusion lies.
We did have a great stay in this hotel and were impressed by the service we received.
Thanks to all of you at Hatton Court

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I am pleased that you had a pleasant stay with us. I have passed your kind comments on to the team. I was concerned to learn about the problems you encountered with our breakfast service and had not been aware of any issues. I would be most grateful if you could email me Nigel.bird@hatton-court.co.uk and provide me with the date of your stay, this will afford me the opportunity to investigate this. Kind regards Nigel

+1
We have stayed at Hatton Court many times over the years and it's never failed to offer excellent offers along with delicious food and great service. Our recent trip was our first venture staying away from home during the pandemic and in truth we were nervous. No need! Hatton court has managed to make us feel completely safe and at the same time feel relaxed and able to enjoy ourselves. Sanitiser can be found at pretty much every entrance, the team are keeping to the social distancing guidelines, using separate tables placed away from your table to serve food and drinks and the seating/dining areas are spaced out perfectly.
The deals are always well worth the money and the current boozy break is outstanding value for money. The cream tea on arrival was absolutely delicious and plentiful, a bottle of prosecco came along with it and with the 3 course evening meal and full English breakfast in the morning for £130, you really can't go wrong. We have booked to return again in September knowing how safe we have been made to feel and how much we've enjoyed our 2 night break.
The beds are huge and very comfortable so we both slept very well. Thank you to all the team for making our stay so special. See you in September

We stayed here on our way to a weekend break further from home and as we had selected a room superior to the classic one, were allocated one of that level to the rear in a newer part of the hotel. As we had not actually wanted a spa bath or larger bed, we would have prefered a simpler room specification in a better location as the room was very dark and the bathroom did function well. The taps needed turning a lot, the spa function of the bath did not work and the toilet took an extraordinary time to fill. However. we liked the terrace and the breakfast in the restaurant was good. On noticing a deal which would include DBB and a cream tea with prosecco, we enquired for the night we planned to stop somewhere on the way home. I was shown a room at the front of the hotel with lots of light and although a classic, had a really lovely modernised bathroom and much better decor than our first one. We booked it and really wished we had spent our entire 4 night break at Hatton Court! Indeed, the cream tea and dinner on the terrace were both very good and the staff were working very hard to please in such hot conditions. We are already looking forward to our return! Well done all at Hatton Court!

My partner took me here for my 30th birthday, we got to the room, soon as I opened the door you could see paint was flaking off the wall, the bathroom furnishings looked dated and worn, I ran the bath to dip my feet in and you could see lots of long hairs floating on the top, discusting.
The windows didn't stay open they were push up sliding windows that kept falling down, last thing you need in the summer, They emptied the mini bar due to covid.
The room was boiling not the hotels fault, still no air conditioning just a tiny fan in your wardrobe.
Outdoor area they have a nice decking seating area over looking a loverly erm... View of a marquee, yep loverly views ruined with a massive big white tent... Purely for money making.
The only decent view we got is when we sat under this wooden hut on the night, which you won't get a lookin in the day as a member of staff is occupieying it.
The bar area and restaurant seem very basic, just basic furnishinga like an empty feeling.
The chicken dinner was nice can't fault it, but to be brought out an expensive cocktail with a chipped glass was shocking.
Breakfast in the morning we was greeted nicely by a lady member of staff who showed us to our seats, first we was brought out warm orange and apple juice and 2 bits of thin toast cut in to 4 half's couldn't drink the coffee was to bitter even With 3 sugars in.
The staff was loverly and helpful.
I suggest that the profits they make from the view spoiling marquee should be reinvested in to the rooms.

We have just spent 3 fabulous nights at this hotel. If you want a great value break in a beautiful setting with outstanding service I can highly recommend Hatton Court.
The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable with crisp white linen. The bathroom had a large bath tub and a very powerful shower over it too. We ate all 3 nights in the area designated for pet owners which we absolutely loved because we had the best views across the Gloucester hills and plenty of space between any other guests dining with their pets. The Hotel has done everything to make you feel safe from Covid. You can't really go far before seeing a hand sanitizer fixed onto the wall! plus because there's so much space available for dining and drinks in the bar area, you're always 2 metres away from other guest.
The 3 course meal was excellent on 2 nights of our stay and we enjoyed a platter in the middle of our break which was absolutely delicious. A special thank you to the Hotel for our platter because we have since learnt that they are no longer available. The team are always happy to serve you and nothing is too much trouble.Breakfast is first class with quality sausage and bacon. If I was being really picky I'd suggest always using the larger plate at breakfast because its a shame when you squeeze all those lovely items onto such a small dish.
Hatton Court Hotel and all the team are very dog friendly. Our yorkie was given treats galore and cuddles galore which pleased him no end. A special mention to Josh who serves up your drinks. He's always so jolly and happy to serve. Also a special thanks to Natasha for initially arranging our anniversary platter and the chef for cooking it so well! Also a special mention to Zoe, a young but very attentive host. The duty Manager was always checking on his guests which was a lovely touch throughout our stay. Thank you to Tom for helping us tailor our package in the the first instance. Thank you very much for an excellent break

Stayed for a boozy day with friends and had a wonderful time. We were concerned over sanitising and distancing but the staff made everyone feel very safe and went out of there way to ensure we able to relax. Food was served safely, a great selection and good quality and plentiful with a lovely Prosecco as part of the deal. Bedrooms were restricted for covid but felt very secure. Next morning we had a lovely breakfast then sat on the decked area in sunshine with a coffee with lovely scenery to view.
The staff were so pleasant, sociable and welcoming. Value for money we were very satisfied and all our earlier concerns over covid were completely removed, so much so, we will return very soon as we felt very comfortable and relaxed considering the current situation.

We have just returned from a one night stay at Hatton Court Hotel. Check in was friendly and quick. We ate 3 courses in the Tara Restaurant which was fantastic. Service was attentive yet not disruptive and the Lamb and Chicken main courses were a particular highlight. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfy! The room had all facilities required and we particularly liked The White Company bathroom products. Breakfast was great - a good selection on the hot food menu and a clean and well presented buffet table offering a nice selection of continental breakfast items. The breakfast service was especially efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the choice of spreads and preservatives on the buffet table.
All in all we were well looked after by friendly staff, felt comfortable and at home and would definitely recommend and return!

Visited Hatton Court recently taking advantage of their Boozy Sunday offer which included a bottle of Prosecco in the room, 3 course lunch, £25 each credit towards dinner, B&B.
The offer was very good value for money given we were in an "executive " room and all meals bar breakfast were generally well-cooked and presented.
Receptionist was friendly and helpful. Room was very nice with a good bathroom and lovely views (see photos).
For lunch I had Caesar salad, roast beef and chocolate torte - the salad was pretty boring being mainly lettuce with no real anchovy flavour; the beef was very good, hot and well cooked veg though a little light on "pan juices"; torte was excellent. My wife had prawn cocktail, beef and Eton mess and enjoyed it all but again the starter was a bit dull.
For dinner I had scallops to start and a lamb duo main. (In excess of the £25 credit) Both were excellent. My wife had salmon to start and chicken main which she thoroughly enjoyed. 2 things grated for us: the waiter wore a very badly grease-stained suit with both jacket and trousers looking the worse for wear. He had also got a large stain on his shirt; the other issue is a bugbear of ours where staff begin remaking tables around you up for breakfast while you are still eating.
Breakfast was less successful though the cold element was ok. We waited almost 30mins from ordering breakfast to it arriving while watching others who arrived later being served first. I was forced to complain and the head of service apologised and told us it wouldn't be long. English breakfast was no more then ok: good bacon and black pudding but horrible overcooked and deep fried sausage (with old oil by the taste) and greasy hash browns. Vinegar seemed present in the mushrooms and my egg was overcooked. I did not enjoy it and left much of it. The server apologised again for the lateness as we left.
Drinks are fairly pricey but not shockingly so with beer at £4.60 and wine from £24 a bottle (and glass prices equivalent so minimum £8.20 for 250ml)
Overall a good stay but seems to be run with 2 or 3 fewer staff than necessary.

We booked a two day stay on their welcome back boozy day offer which was fantastic value for money. Booked a superior room so we were in the main house and that was our only slight disappointment as room was a bit tired and didn't have a shower. We could have asked for another so that was not a real issue. Reception staff, bar staff and restaurant staff all excellent, warm and friendly and we couldn't fault their amazing service. We were pleasantly surprised by the good choice on their dinner menu too and food was brilliant. I understand they have a new chef so would definitely recommend giving it a try. We had a cream tea with a bottle of prosecco included and that was a meal in itself. Lovely freshly made scones with fruit and cream. Tom and Josh were both excellent and I'm sorry I didn't note everyone's name that served us but your team are a real credit to you Hatton Court. We had to order breakfast the evening before which was not a problem. They serve your food and drinks to a table adjacent to you which you then return your used dishes to. Didn't see that as a problem at all and they have the social distancing well worked out. We will definitely return and have recommended to friends and family. We stayed during the really hot spell but enjoyed their lovely sun terrace with umbrellas. Hopefully see you again next month and thank you for our lovely stay.

We have stayed so much over the last 18 months that I believe we are now classed as regulars! We book well in advance to take advantage of the hotels deals. The Sunday deal includes a 2 course Sunday lunch and a 2 course evening meal plus a bottle of prosecco. The Sunday roast was just delicious. We both had the beef and it came with all the trimmings. The menu had a few choices including fish and vegetarian. We really enjoyed the cheesecake and chocolate brownie with ice cream for pudding. Unbelievably we managed the 2 courses that evening too. The chicken in a mushroom cream sauce was just divine. The bar area is well spaced out and with plenty of fresh air circulating. Hand gel was pretty much everywhere. Our room was spotless and it made me look a little closer in the bar area too and I'd like to say a big well done to the cleaning team. Especially with COVID-19 still doing the rounds it's nice to know you're staying in a hygienic place. The front of house staff always make us feel so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. My pillow was a little too high for me and as soon as I mentioned it at reception, a fresh smaller pillow was delivered to our room. The hotel is extremely dog friendly. Our dog is made to feel so welcome. Treats galore and lots of cuddles. The team set us up a lovely table in the bar area for all our meals so our dog could be with us. An extra thank you to Tom who never fails to over deliver on excellent service, also to Zoe for really looking after us in the bar area when our friends visited for afternoon tea. They were very impressed indeed with both the service and the setting. We highly recommend Hatton court for a short break and look forward to returning in the new year.

Hi. There was no cost when we went but I think this was an incentive to get custom back after lockdown. It depends which room / floor you stay in - the hotel are quite happy for you to walk your dog in the small grounds as long as you pick up any poo. There is also a pleasant walk around a couple of fields just over the road.
When I was there they were in the restaurant with the owners whilst eating
Hi Gaynor, as the packed lunch is stated on your invoice I would presume this is definitely part of the package. The staff at Hatton Court are very helpful and accommodating - I would call them to clarify what is included as I’m sure they will have this stored on their reservation data base. X

Leamington Spa, United Kingdom56 contributions30 helpful votesHi, are there lots of good walks to go on directly from the hotel or do you need to drive elsewhere? We are taking our dog with us so would prefer not to drive if possible.
Hi there, the hotel is on a steep, busy hill, probably not very safe for you or the dog. But within a 5 minute drive in the car, you can get to Painswick Beacon, a huge area of common land ideal for the Pooch. You can walk to the trig point at the top and there are 360 degrees of brilliant views. Also within a few minutes in the car is Rococo Gardens. A very pretty place to visit. Entry charge, but dogs welcome round the gardens and coffee shop. Also look out for Prinknash Abbey. Great little coffee shop. Good walks. Cranham has woods and walks. Lots of lovely local places, but all need a short drive to get to.
