We had a lovely stay here. Staff were friendly and helped us organise tours. It is very close to the town but in a quiet area. The room and bathroom were a good size, and there was an outside terrace which was pleasant. A walk in the nearby tea plantations was a great tip!

If Kerala is the God's Own Country, then Wayanad is certainly the capital of that country!! And if you want to be at home in this capital, the Four Seasons Homestay situated at Kalpetta goes far beyond expectations.

Being based in Bangalore, Wayanad came up as a part of my South India sojourn over an extended weekend. As any other visit, extensive research was undertaken to find the ideal place that would be our cocoon during the stay. Uncompromising on our demand for a good property and a less extravagant budget, all options pointed at homestays and all paths thereon lead to the Four Seasons. A little apprehensive since I had never stayed in a homestay earlier, but I finally decided to fall for the appreciations for this property everywhere that I could search online. The apprehension slowly disappeared as soon as I started interacting with Mary Aunty (Mrs. Mary Abraham - the owner of the place), regarding the reservation formalities.

Reaching the Four Seasons, I was not only surprised, but mesmerized by the warmth and the hospitality extended by the sweet couple of Mary Aunty and Johnson Uncle. Frankly speaking, I was not expecting such professionalism in this small town. Exuding the warmth of loving parents, still maintaining the professionalism of a well-managed hospitality industry, the Four Seasons will be ever etched in my mind and make me yearn for repeated visits to Wayanad.
While a visit to Four Season's will justify a delightful homestay experience, I will categorize the further details below for easy reading:

1) HOW to REACH: By road, Wayanad is 280 kms from Bangalore on NH212. However, the town of Kozhikode is 90 kms from here on NH 212, where you also will find the nearest railway station and airport. The further journey via road to reach Wayanad is a blissful experience charted across long winding mountainous stretches. In you are coming in from the Kozhikode direction, make sure that you stop at the Chumar View Point just before entering the town of Kalpetta. The bird’s eye view over the snake like winding road in the valley below cannot be simply missed. Once in Kalpetta, ask for the Main Post Office, as this is the nearest landmark to The Four Seasons Homestay. While a GPS based map will help a lot to find your way around, but a quick phone call to Mary Aunty will make things much easier.

2) RESERVATIONS: The Four Seasons is blessed with repeat clientèle and has a huge demand otherwise also. So it will be a pure luck if you happen to get a place there as per your vacations plans. Please get in touch well in advance of over two months if you have fixed plans. However, the Abraham family has also set up a new property called the “Villa Wayanad” to cater to their guests. This property is a modern facility with the same attention accorded by Mary Aunty and Johnson Uncle. In case you intent to stay at the Four Seasons only, then honest advice would be to first check the available dates and then plan your vacation.

3) ROOMS to LOOK for: The best rooms on the entire set of properties owned by the Abraham family are the two rooms on the first floor of Four Seasons. These two rooms open up in a common private balcony that houses the dining arrangements amidst well maintained manicured terrace garden. The experience of spending leisure time over tea and snacks in this area itself is an unforgettable experience. An occasional visit by Mary Aunty and Johnson Uncle over a teatime chat is the ideal backdrop for sharing sweet memories of time. The rooms have attached bath and round the clock hot water. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms and there is no need of the same too, since the weather in Wayanad is absolutely comfortable.

4) FOODING: Since this is a homestay, you will get your food cooked and served out of the family kitchen. However, you will be given decent options to choose your meals. You will have to give advance intimation about your choice of meals since the family has to arrange for the requirements. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available. It is recommended that you request Aunty to serve traditional recipes as we did and you would love the food. Breakfast (inclusive of morning tea) is complimentary, while meals are on payable basis.

5) BEVERAGE: Since this is a family accommodation, including the family of the host living in the same property, it is highly recommended that no alcoholic drinks are consumed at this property. Understandably, this is a very legitimate expectation as would be in most of family kind of environments. Yes, tea and coffee is available almost any number of time that you request it, against a nominal payment.

6) OTHER AMENITIES: The property has a decent sized car parking that can easily accommodate a SUV sized vehicle for the guest. The family cars are also garaged in the same area. If you get a chauffeur with your car, there is facility for him to freshen up. Internet facility is also provided (on charge) for the people who cannot do without being connected online.

7) THE SOUL OF THE EXPERIENCE: If there is anything that tops as the icing on the cake is the warmth and hospitality showed by Mary Aunty and Johnson Uncle. It is highly recommended that you spend some time chatting with them over snack time and listen to their journey through life and the onset of their hospitality business. Also, sit with Johnson Uncle for guidance for adventure trail and tourist spots in Wayanad. Ask for a copy of the map that he has meticulously charted, with point to point guidance and approximate distances around the place.

FINAL RATING: Please feel free to explore this place without any concern. I stayed here for 2nights 3days and travelled will wife and cousins. This is one of the best places for staying with family and like a family. This has been my first stay in any homestay and certainly Mary Aunty and Johnson Uncle have effortlessly managed to raise the bar of expectations of my future references.

Best experience I had here. My stay at wayanad was made extremely comfortable by Mary and her husband. They were very helpful and guided us with the "things to do" during our short trip here.
The home stay is also very pretty and clean. :)

We had no problem locating the homestay. As soon as we got off our bus, the owner of the home-stay, Mary spoke to the auto driver and within a matter of 5 mins, we were there. The place has such a cozy feel attached to it with lush plants and creepers filled with flowers.
The living space is welcoming and as one climbs the steps the beauty of the place unfolds. Rooms are very clean and with everything to make your stay comfortable.
We had breakfast and dinner at home. Both the meals were simple yet so tasteful and sumptuous. During breakfast our host, Mary asked our plan for the day and helped us get an auto reserved to take us to all the tourist attractions in wayanad.
During our dinner, we had the opportunity to talk to the lady behind the success of the home-stay. She is charming and helpful beyond words. Our stay at wayanad was short but so sweet!
Indeed, this is the best choice and we were lucky to have found this stay! Highly recommended.

Cottage interiors 3/5
Food 1/5
Value 3.5/5

Overall - 1.5/5

Misleading ratings and reveiws! Over hyped.

Other facts -
Noisy location. You cannot relax here. Very near to main Kalpetta road and Bus stop\depot, can hear all verhicle sounds. There are roads right next to the rooms and its very disturbing.
It is like a PG more than a Home stay.No Inter Com, from 1st floor to ground floor. You need to climb down evreytime to ground floor when you need anything [coffee, tea, food, information]. The steps are too steep to climb. Hospitality - NIL.

Comments- We stayed here for 2 nights during Dec 2014 by looking at Tripadvisor ratings and reviews. Hospitality is NIL. We did not get to experience any hospitality and that is why i call it a PG not a homestay. There was no proper directions provided for us to reach the homestay. When we reached home 5 pm, no one to open the gate, ask how was the day, ask if need Tea\coffee. you need to knock their door evrytime you need anything. Painful, its better to stay in a hotel. Very congested parking space, owners themselves had parked their vehicles, which made us very difficult to park and remove the vehicle out of parking. their whole property was like in 50*60 feet area. Noisy, terrible, disturbing place. No Nature around or nice view(check out my photos). There are a few pots with flower plants.the 2 rooms are very close and you can hear what people in other room can speak, its very disturbing, frustrating. Icing on the cake - on the first day morning, water motor was not working. They brought us water in buckets. I cannot understand how people have priased their location, hospitality. Those people who have given good ratings and reviews either have not visited any other home stays or may be the 4 season hosts have changed their behavior since they received the award as number one! Totally disappointing. Even as we stayed for 2 days, they dd not enquire if we wanted our rooms cleaned up. You basically need to ASK everything, there is nothing that they will take care. If we wanted this experience we could have stayed at a Hotel.
i would definitely NOT recommend this home stay. We did not enjoy the food, All normal food like semiya, idli sambar, were served. We expected more authentic food from home stay, we kept on hearing only complaints from hosts that their maids were on leave, she cannot cook chapathi, motor is not working.. Gosh..! We did notice other homestays near by in good spacious locations.

Till now i have visited around 4 Home stays where i got to know what is the real Home stay feeling. Other Home stay i have visited were heavens, homes were in widely spread estates ... such a calm, lovely place to relax. Hospitality were at its best, We got to taste varieties of their authentic food, loved it. we never had to ASK for anything. They themselves guided us so well on what to visit. They took care of us, including food very well.

We stayed at sister property Villa Wayanad which was new villa type rooms with a shared lounge area but we were the only ones in that villa. It is brand new and nice and 2km out of town. What really stood out for us was how helpful Mary and her husband and other people there were. They could not do enough to help us, picking us up, ensuring we got the right bus out, helping organise any activities we wanted and always checking we were ok. Thank you for making our stay in Kalpetta great.

Wayanad is amazing place, you will be all surrounded by nature.
We stayed in wayanad villa which is owned by the same owners in june 2015. The owners are really good hosts, even the care taker is a nice man. But the rooms are very compact with only bed in the room there was no space to walk around, a common bathroom between 2 rooms.; we were lucky to be only couple in the homestay so hadn't share the bathroom with other visitors. 1500 per night for only a bed was not at all worth.
I had great expectations from food, but food had hair in the salad and worm in fish curry, which was disastrous. Food was not served on time , excuse given was that cook'd grandfather died! I wish i had taken dinner somewhere outside, we had to sleep hungry that night.
Overall it is only worth 500-800 a room. and only room, try food at your own risk

Its been long since I visited, but glad to write about it.

It has been a awesome experience of staying here. Loved every bit of it.

A special thanks to Mary Aunty for taking care of us like her own children.

This beautiful homestay is in lane bang in Kalpetta Post Office. Though in the town but is secluded and has lot of serenity and solitude.

First, the rooms were very spacious, hygienic and extremely clean with equally well maintained bathrooms. Kudos for the same!

Food was very TASTY and homely too with a touch of typical Kerala cuisine, and the fish curry was out of the world!! Loved every bit of it. if you do not like food with coconut oil, you must mention the same to Mary Aunty at the outset.

The house in traditional Kerala architecture. The room in the 1st floor opens up to a huge veranda with an attached seat out. There are a lot of birds chirping around which make you feel in the lap of nature. You can spend lot of time relaxing there with a cup of tea!

If you take a walk down the back side in the same lane, you will end up (within 20 mtrs) to a beautiful tea estate and a big road with almost no traffic in the morning. Ideal for a leisurely walk in the morning.

Mary Aunty and her husband are extremely helpful people and will possibly go out of the way to help you. They are possibly the best people to guide about the places and routes. Since in Kalpetta town itself, it is very close to everything you want to visit in Wayanad.

A must visit stay, which will be very relaxed for sure.

Thanks to them once again.

Four Seasons is a great place to stay.. Both Mary aunty,Johnson uncle and their son Sunil were very friendly, homely and took care of us as their own family. To start with, the day we were planning to arrive, there was a HARTAL (bandh) in Kerala from 6 am to 6pm. They called us in the morning and asked us to spend time in Mysore (we are from Bangalore) and then cross the border after 6pm. This really shows their keen interest in serving us even before we arrived. Rooms were very clean, the first floor is a very great setting (just 200 metres from the main road)... We were pure vegetarians and the food provided was very excellent for a very low price.(lot of varieties during both breakfast and dinner). We stayed there for 3 days and both aunty/uncle guided us to the different places that we can go and planned our everyday trips.. I had injured my foot in one of the waterfalls and aunty/uncle really took care of me.. booking doctor appointments (really exceeded my expectations).. Overall, we really enjoyed the place, great food, excellent hospitality and really a family accommodation.

I think they provide towels but not the other toiletries. The bathrooms and toilets are very clean. Since the hosts are very friendly and make you feel at home you can ask them any queries on phone before you get there.
