Friends recommended the Chateau Vouilly and we were not disappointed. James Hamel is a gracious host who lives the history of his home. This is a working farm in a rural area (pay attention to directions!). It is also the location of some significant WWII historical events in Normandie and all is captured on the walls with photos and plaques....

The Chateau boosts about the brief part in history that the American Army Press Office took up residence at this beautiful Chateau back in 1945 and to be honest, it probably hasn't changed much since then. It's full of character and is very authentic but the facilities are very basic and rudimentary. The Chateau itself is very remote so don’t...

The only bad thing about our stay at Chateau Vouilly was that it was for a single night only! I don't normally write many reviews, but I just have to share what a wonderful, charming (and all too short) stay we had here. James Hamel is the perfect host; just a lovely, warm hearted fellow. This place is steeped in...

We spent three night at Chateau de Vouilly in July and it was absolutely great. Beautiful bedrooms with loads of character and charm. The owners where very friendly, helped us out and gave us tips on where to go and what to do. The location is a bit inland, but no more than 20 minutes away from the D-day beaches,...

This Chambres d'Hôtes is wonderfull! The rooms are beautifull and authentic and they are very clean; the breakfast is also excellent with fresh bread and a choice of sweet confitures, cheeses, coffee, thé, orange juice, water and yoghurt at your disposal. The beautifull garden gives you the opportunity to relax in complete retreat. The location of this accommodation is perfect...

What a great time we had at this very old chateau in Normandy - It even has it's own moat - How cool is that?. Mr. & Mrs. Hamel and their family were very welcoming. James had lots of information on sites to see in and around Normandy. The rooms were huge and yet very private. Very historical site also....

We had a great three nights stay at Chateau Vouilly. The Chateau itself is full of history, beauty, and informal comfort. Situated close to the D-day sites, restaurants, and the beautiful countryside, it is the perfect place to stay while visiting this part of Normandy. What stands out more than anything is the wonderful hospitality provided by the owner, James....

Very nice location of the property in an old villa/castle with a lot of history. Very spacious and nicely decorated rooms. The common room and breakfast room are still in traditional cosy style. There is a big nice garden. The owner is very hospitable and helpful. Every day at breakfast he advised us about places of interest to go and...

Our stay at Chateau de Vouilly was a wonderful experience because of the very warm, friendly presence of the owner, James, and the very lovely but down to earth surroundings. The Chateau started as a fortified castle with a moat (which is still there) and was then added on to in its current form as a chateau. There is a...

This is a wonderful and historic bed and breakfast run by a delightful and kind host. The rooms are historic and rustic, and I would not recommend for travelers seeking a sleek and modern atmosphere. For those more interested in a unique and historic home, I could not recommend a better place. We spent 2 nights and used the chateau...

“The room (L'Orangerie) had a double bed and a small ante room with another single bed. There was a second small room with a bed, but it was "closed" for some reason, but it had a lot of flies in it, anyway so we never went in there. It faced the entrance side of the house. The bathroom had a tub only with a handheld shower handle.”
