My wife and I were lucky enough to stay here for two nights while visiting family in Kandy. We were proud to see the level of hospitality and professionalism that exists now in Sri Lanka. We hope that this only encourages more people to visit, and we hope to stay at this property again during our next trip to Kandy.

A two night stay here was just not enough - the surroundings and the staff really merit a much longer stay. Our room was perfect, with the mosquito net and wrist bands being especially helpful. The real star attraction for me though was the food, with a mixture of western and local food served for breakfast and dinner - absolutely...

It felt like a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. Nothing was too much trouble, candles in the bedroom and bathroom...citronella bracelets for our wrists not that either of us got bitten. We had breakfast each morning on our own little private terrace. Delicious . Had a lovely feel to it and left feeling massively refreshed...

Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful people who work at Kandy House. Niman has been a treasure here for our two night stay. Not long enough! The pool is excellent and big enough to have a decent swim. Meals have been really good. Western fare on the first night and rice and curry the last night (13 dishes...

My wife and I stayed here for one night during our honeymoon tour of Sri Lanka, but to be honest one night was not enough. The service was amazing, the food was great and those are two things you look for when spending just one quick night. From the moment we arrived we were welcome by the hotel manager, she...

Stayed here as part of our honeymoon which was over the new year period. Hotel is small and has a very friendly feel. Rooms lovely, only downside that our room must have been above the kitchen/a staff area as at times it was a little noisy. New Year's Eve celebrations were great- they did a lovely dinner and traditional Kandyan...

The drive takes you so deep into the countryside that you are convinced you are heading in the wrong direction, and then this exquisite property emerges from behind the foliage. A beautiful house, excellent service, good food set in the lush countryside. The experience is so divine that it has to done as the last night in Kandy.

The hotel public spaces are gracious and lovely. Great colonial feel. We (3 of us) were not guests at the hotel and were seated at the HUGE dining table near the entrance because the hotel and restaurant were otherwise full. It felt private but strangely segregated (were were really welcome?). The set menu offered a few choices and we covered...

Yes absolutely, non-resident guests are welcome to dine at the hotel. However,we manage these numbers and request advance notice and contact as space is limited and we're only a small hotel.Quite often small groups come to enjoy the same antique family dining table in its own area, and it typically works very well.Am sorry you felt segregated,we certainly enjoyed having you as...

We were told that because of high season we had to prepay hotel in full, but when we arrive only 2 rooms were occupied. It was nice hotel, but not the best. Our room was small and dark. Public areas not convenient for use, out of town. It was nice but not must hotel. The best thing about hotel was...

Maybe the incessant rain didn't help but we left feeling very underwhelmed and somewhat fleeced .We booked 3 nights but due to family problem explained in advance that we could only stay 2 ..they refused to let us cancel one night . It cost us almost £300 per night ( including one meal for two ) . For that you...

Many thanks for your review and comments. It's not often we experience a report on the weather - even the power of Tripadvisor cannot control the rain, but we are obviously sympathetic for guests who may occasionally experience unseasonal poor weather. As you say,it does seem the tone of your comments has been rather influenced by the rain...as would have been the periodic...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kandy House is a unique ancestral manor house (walauwa) providing seclusion and serenity for its guests in a lush, tropical garden setting, close to Kandy. With only 9 bedrooms, this Kandy hotel, aims is to give guests an experience of staying more in a private house than a conventional hotel. Traditional Kandyan architecture has been blended with Bawa-influenced modern, polished titanium cement floors and bathrooms. In the gardens, a stunning infinity pool has been landscaped into the hillside overlooking the rice paddy fields. Delicious European fusion and Sri Lankan cuisine is on offer. Well-placed to spend time to relax as well as explore a broad selection of Sri Lanka's primary destinations in the Cultural Triangle and Tea Country, including the Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The house can also be booked as a whole for important celebrations with friends, or just for the peace of mind of a group having total privacy away from the public eye. The Kandy House also makes an ideal honeymoon hotel in Sri Lanka, in a quiet peaceful setting, honeymooners can enjoy the infinity pool, private dining, yoga or massages. ... more   less
