From old wing, no views are available from any room. Old wing has a common terrace which is just beside the Deluxe rooms and a 1 min walk from the Semi Deluxe rooms. Old wing rooms are bigger but are not very tidy because of their old structure. Deluxe rooms just have one additional small ante room. We paid 2016 per day for the semi deluxe room.
New wing rooms are cleaner but are steeply priced. Deluxe rooms are 3500 per day and Super Deluxe has 2 private viewing balconies but priced at 4500 per day. I felt they are not worthwhile to spend that much. We just roamed into the new wing and went to the private balcony as the room was vacant and took pics of the peaks during morning hours.
Service and behaviour of the employees are very good. They will deliver food to your room, terrace or garden. But, one caution - beware of the monkeys while taking food. We got attacked while having breakfast in the terrace in old wing. All the food were taken away by the monkeys. Employees were very cooperative and they gave the breakfast again with no extra charge.
Common Breakfast in included in the room rent. We also wanted a drop to Dehradun airport at 8AM. The hotel staff arranged it very promptly. We paid 3000 for the drop to airport.
Hotel manager Mr. Rawat was very helpful. He arranged for a room heater @ 200 per day which was very much needed for my 2 yr old baby.
The property has two wings- old and the new. Obviously the new wing was constructed recently. But the construction of the new wing hasn't stopped GMVN from the milking the old wing of whatever is left of it. There is stark difference between the two wings. Old wing has spacious rooms but in poor condition, though not inhabitable, honestly. Building is worn & torn, allays are dark. New wing rooms are not as spacious but are new, better furnished and have balconies. Since the reception, kitchen and the service, all are in the new wing, hence new wing gets quick service than the old wing.
The other difference they have made between the two wings is the tariff. New wing tariffs are thrice the tariffs of old wings. I agree that rooms are new and better furnished but still the tariff is just not justifiable. With that tariff, one will better go and take two rooms in other hotels in the market. A traveller like me, who hardly stays in rooms during day, will opt for old wing to have a room just for sleeping in the bed. And, as somebody else has also mentioned, Eco huts right opposite the GMVN hotel are also government owned (forest), have cottage like room design, quaint location, superb views and tariffs lower than old wing of the GMVN hotel. I hope that makes the point clear.
The kitchen service at the GMVN hotel also needs to be improved a lot. It crumbles when there is tourist pressure. Honestly, nobody comes here to stay in rooms. Everybody likes to go for the sightseeing after the breakfast. So when hotel is running on high capacity, the wait for breakfast sometimes becomes irritating.
All said and done, the staff at the hotel is hospitable and cooperative. They might be slow at times, but then it is GMVN.
The view of the entire hotel is at scenic place. Very cool, calm in the middle of nature.
The room service is awesome and the food served here is delicious.
Perfect place to stay with family; esp with kids as a big park is adjacent to the hotel with lush greenery.
I love to go back here again next year.
I checked in this this hotel in the late evening of October 3rd, 2014 along with 5 other families of my friends. We had booked 5 so called deluxe rooms and one economy room for an overnight stay at this small beautiful town. On waking up the next morning we found that there was no water supply in four of the five 'deluxe' rooms so we wasted our two hours in carrying the water buckets from one room to other four rooms, on our own.
The only difference between a deluxe and economy room was the facility of television, but the Airtel DTH connection was non-operational because of non-payment of dues and the same was not reinstated even after several requests to the so-called management.
Inspite of all this GMVN was not ashamed to include the luxury tax in our bills.
I'd advice to avoid an overnight stay in this town instead try your level best to reach here early in the morning, spend your day in nearby Eco Park, Apple Garden etc. and return either to Mussoorie or New Tehri by evening.
Hotel is located next to Eco park two. Dhanaulti itself is quiet place surrounded by cedar trees. It was cold and rained in evening. No power backup in room. Geyser is present in economy room. Staff is very simple and courteous. Lastly breakfast(lot of choice like toast, paranthas, puri bhaji) is complementary.
P.S. suite looked quite good from outside and are costly(mostly occupied by foreigner's)
