Loved sitting down out the back with a glass of red by the bay watching the sunset... situated close to eagle hawk neck and port Arthur we didn’t have to travel far to see all the wonderful things ... very reasonable price... will be back

We stayed in a lovely, comfortable, compact unit which was very reasonably priced. Set in lovely grounds on the banks of the bay, we were able to sit out at the waters edge and watch the sun go down whilst colourful parrots feasted in the surrounding trees. BBQs were available so it’s wise to stock up before arrival as there are no nearby shops.

I started booking our holiday in Tasmania well before we knew that Covid border restrictions would allow us to go. So I ruled out any accommodation, tours and excursions that did not allow free cancellation. Abs By The Bay was one such place.
Once we arrived on the island I looked again at Abs and saw that it seemed far superior to the place I had booked for a similar price. This proved to be a good decision.
We stayed in the Skippers cottage and it was really excellent. It had almost everything we needed or could imagine that we might need. The setting is lovely in beautiful gardens and a short stroll down to the bay.
We stayed for one night and the following morning it was 12 C and windy when we had breakfast. The only table and chairs are outside and it would have been a hassle to move them inside where there was little room. So we ate sitting on the bed. This is my only criticism of the cottage. It should have been built a little bigger so that there was room for a table and chairs. Too late for that now but the place is just a little bit too small to be perfect.

We only stayed one night for our visit to Port Arthur. The little unit was lovely and warm, spotlessly clean and spacious. The owner turned out to be a fellow West Australian, nice! Lovely gardens and the bay was lovely, nice to walk down to. We headed to the Lufra Hotel for our evening meal and really enjoyed it.

We stayed in 'The Deck' which provided a large 2 bedroom self-contained space for two couples travelling together. The living room is large and comfortable, and the kitchen well supplied with utensils and crockery. The Weber BBQ on the deck was great. The apartment was very clean and well maintained. The owners go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and are very helpful. The gardens are immaculate. Future travellers who plan on turning out gourmet meals should note that the fridge is a bit tiny (bar sized fridge without freezer) and there isn't a full sized cooktop (only a small portable electric plate). But the microwave, electric frying pan and BBQ combined covered all our possible cooking needs.

We loved staying at this cottage! The cottage was very spacious and well maintained. It had a good sized bedroom, large bathroom, sitting area with couches and a kitchen with electric stove, microwave, toaster, and water heater. There was also a private porch outside of each unit with a table and chairs. There are a few BBQ areas with picnic tables. While none of the cottages have water views you are allowed to sit by the water at the picnic table. The owner Lyn did a great job with the gardening, we loved all the beautiful succulents. The location is perfect to visit any attractions on the Tasman Peninsula; 5 minutes to Tasman blowhole/arch, 15 minutes to Port Arthur, 25 minutes to the Cape Hauy and Cape Raoul walks as well as the Historic Coal Mines. Just be aware the "reception" is at the end of the driveway at the house.

The perfect location for seeing Port Arthur. After spending a day at Port Arthur, we were able to drive the short distance back to our rooms, cook dinner, then return for the Ghost Tour.
The rooms are large, modern and clean, and at a very affordable price.
Finding great accommodation like this, for an affordable price, is why I use TripAdvisor.

My daughter and I stayed here for 1 night on our 2 week trip around Tassie. We were warmly welcomed by Veronica on our arrival and given brochures and useful information on places to visit and "eateries" in the area. We were told to help ourselves to herbs and lettuce from the garden and also lemons from a nearby tree, which was laden with fruit! The accommodation was very clean and compact, with split-cycle air con and electric blankets, (which came in very handy as the weather was pretty chilly!). Our two-bedroom unit was set in tranquil surroundings, the garden leading down to a private little beach and the bay, and very handy for Port Arthur (10Km) and all the main attractions of the Tasman peninsula. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend Abs by the Bay.

We stayed at Abs by the Bay for 2 nights just after New Year, but wish we could have stayed longer! We found it very relaxing and cosy. The views of the bay are beautiful and I was very impressed by the amount of local information we found waiting for us when we got there.
The location of the flat is fantastic, around a 10 minute drive to Port Arthur and in a perfect spot to explore the rest of the Tasman peninsula. One tip I would give though is to go to a supermarket in Sorell before heading down to the area. There is a small shop where we managed just fine, but if you are staying for longer, you might want to stock up on a few bits and pieces!
I would thoroughly recommend Abs by the Bay- cosy and affordable- perfect!
