Property's Favourite Review
I have nothing but love for this place. The setting is serene and immediately relaxing. The hotel is a light touch on its environment, low key but elegantly done. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. Nature is loud in the mornings!
The staff are wonderful and really add to the experience. Food is delicious and very nicely done in a homely style of very good quality.
If I'm honest the bathroom could do with a light spruce up but perfectly fine and served its purpose just fine. Bed was huge and comfortable.
Of course you've probably booked a stay to see the elephants and if you're lucky tigers. We absolutely loved the activities. I recommend you request the activity list in advance of your stsy so you can plan your choices to match your budget and time. We went on a half day safari, did a jungle walk with sundowners twice, visited the elephant camp and did the early morning grass cutting. The experiences were magical and we just loved every minute.
We didn't see any tigers (maybe next time!) but we saw plenty of other wildlife. Highly recommend and truly hope to return.

This is my fourth time visiting this award-winning eco lodge in Chitwan. (Tiger Tops won the “Most Inspiring Eco Lodge” award in 2018.)
Tiger Tops is also Nepal’s first elephant-friendly venue which completely stopped elephant rides and released them from chains after building beautiful and spacious solar-powered corrals for them. It is also the only lodge in the country recommended by World Animal Protection US
They cater to different diets, including vegan. They’re also low emissions venue so there is no AC. They provide you with filtered water during your stay as they avoid the use of plastic bottles. The facilities are rustic yet comfortable.
Walking in the jungle with happy healthy elephants is something you won’t want to miss. Highly recommended!
I also loved the boat safari at sunset. It is such a peaceful thing to do, especially because motorized boats are not allowed in the river.
Keep in mind that this is a place for resting and exploring nature, so there is no TV in the rooms (or in the lodge). Bring a nice book or a board game for the evenings after your activities.
A special thanks to Sambu. He is an amazing and extremely knowledgeable naturalist and guide. He always takes good care of us.

We stayed at Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge for two nights during our trip to Nepal. This is a VERY rustic lodge with minimal amenities. They are committed to being eco-friendly and supporting the community.
The main "tent" is a large, round structure where everything takes place: meals, meet ups for tours, check in and check out. During check in, the various excursion options will be explained to you. This is the only place you can get wifi. The bar is here as well. A decent selection, but everything is expensive: at least $6 per drink.
Rooms are spacious and equipped with a ceiling fan and mosquito netting. We asked for a standing floor fan as well, which really helped during the hot nights. Watch out for critters (spiders) in your room!
All meals are served to you, but as if from the buffet. The helpful staff will bring each dish to your table and ask what you would like and how much. You can have more of anything. Very generous portions and also quite tasty. We enjoyed all of our meals.
Our jeep safari, unfortunately, was underwhelming. We saw little and had more people in our jeep than we were told we'd have. Disconcerting during these pandemic times. The best excursion for us was the sunset river safari with sundowners near two elephants that the lodge protects. It was very peaceful to travel the river in a boat with no motor and watch fishermen at work and simply enjoy nature. PS--you will pay for the sundowners. Our river guide, Sambu, was excellent.
While we'd give Chitwan National Park a pass, Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge is a comfortable choice.

The accommodation is amazing and from the first moment the treatment was incredible.
The room was beautiful and in addition to cleaning it every day, every time we had dinner they took the opportunity to leave it ready with the mosquito net so we could sleep.
The staff was attentive to you at all times, and served you delicious non-alcoholic cocktails upon arrival of each activity, as well as tea, coffee, popcorn and snacks. Very detailed and pleasant.
We had a very friendly guide who did not hesitate to explain everything to us and answer any of our questions with patience, even though our English is not very good.
They organized a walk through the jungle for us with elephants (very adventurous) where we saw a rhino next to us, ending at the river where we could see the sunset while having a picnic (although the elephants decided that they did not want to bathe). There I was able to propose to my girlfriend, thanks to the hotel staff, with whom I had spoken personally.
During dinner they also had the detail of preparing us a very delicious cake.
In short, Tiger Tops is a very special place to visit in Nepal and one that I absolutely recommend!!

We stayed here for three nights and had two days of 'trips'.
We had the boat trip down the river to see the wildlife and also watch the sun set which is beautiful. We also did the walking trip through the jungle with the elephants (I found this a bit scarey but it was great) and we also did the safari drive. Finally we were guided around the village and surrounding area which we really enjoyed.
The guide for this was Danny who is exceptionally experienced.
Our room was built in the style of local accommodation and was clean and comfortable.
The food was varied and we were able to eat outside as it was still warm - later in the day it could get cold but we were able to go into the main lounge and sit beside a lovely log fire.
Staff were helpful and there were two Deputy Managers as the main Manager was away. The deputies were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and efficient .. if we were ever concerned about any aspect of our stay they were able to respond to our queries.
We had a great time and would definitely return.

We loved everything about Tiger Tops. Our family room was fantastic, the meals superb and most important Danny our experienced guide made all the activities come alive. Thanks to everyone at Tiger Tops, our boys will never forget walking between the beautiful elephants. Tiger Tops does not chain the elephants and there are no rides, just walks...ethical, sublime and highly recommended,

We took a short flight from Kathmandu to Bharatpur where we were picked up by a land rover and our guide Shambhu who remained our guide over the next few days. The journey to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge was an experience in itself, I had known the roads were not good but that was an understatement, they have to be experienced to be believed.
On arrival the bumpy road trip was soon forgotten as the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. We meet the manager and took an early afternoon beer before settling into our lovely spacious room, with all the amenities we could wish for air a jungle setting. Before we knew what was happening we had arranged to go for a walk in the jungle with our guide and two of the elephants that were kept by the lodge. We ordered our wine for our sundowner experience and we were on our way. On day two we had a jeep safari and a river trip in one of the large dugout canoes, and on our final day we went and fed the elephants and made them sandwiches, saw some amazing owlets on our way to the elephant compound and in the afternoon had a final safari.
With Shambhu's help we never missed any of the wildlife, we saw Rhino (5 times), Gharial crocs on a number of occasions, so many wonderful birds including some beautiful king fishers, a serpent eagle, the wonderfully playful Ruddy Shell Ducks and many more. My personal favourite were the vultures on the final day. Oh and we saw a jackal, unfortunately we got to tiger footprints and not a tiger (next time maybe).
The food was excellent, with a good variety, excellent service and lots of it.
The central fire was lit each night and provided a social space to chat through the days activities either with other guests or in my case with our guide Shambhu who helped me identify all of the birds we had seen that day.
If I lived closer I think a trip to Tiger Tops would have o be an annual event, as I left wanting to see more, do more, go back and look for tigers or more birds or any of the wild life that thrives in the jungle.
If you are passing this way or taking a trip to Nepal stop of at the Chitwan and at Tiger Tops you won't be disappointed it is an amazing experience and they are very socially and environmentally aware.

I was hesitant to make the trip out to chitwan because it was a 7 hour journey from where I was staying in Kathmandu but I decided to gamble and hope for the best...
....This was so much better than the best. I have never been treated so well, so professionally and so completely than by the amazing staff at this lodge/camp. Their knowledge during all the tours and while hanging at the dining hall is astounding. The food is AMAZING and we stayed in the tents which I highly recommend, even in the winter. The heavy blankets and hot water bottle lull you right to sleep. This is the epitome of glamping. We hung out with the elephants and saw 5 rhinos, 2 of which were babies. I love that I got to experience all the nature knowing I was doing no harm because it truly is ethical.
Thank you for the most beautiful experience I had in Nepal, and probably the world.

Overall, the lodge was good. We had hot water for showers and a comfortable bed. The mosquito netting needs to be re-engineered. Ours did not stay closed and it had 2 small holes in it.
The food was very good; drinks were reasonably priced.
We very much enjoyed the walk with the elephants to the river for sunset; the visit to the elephant camp to feed the elephants some treats. The canoe trip was a waste of time unless you are really into birds. We skipped the full day safari because we did one in Bardia NP and could not stand to sit in a jeep for 12 hours. We did do a 4 hour safari during which we saw rhinos up clase. Four hours is about the correct length of time for this activity.
Shopping at the Tiny Store ws fun, too.

We stayed a week here both in a room and in a tent. Both were fantastic, i loved the natural setting of the tent in the greenery where I could see bird life, while also having the luxury of a hot water bathroom.
The staff are really friendly and go out of their way to make you comfortable with delicious meals and friendly service.
The best part was being able to walk with the elephants who are so well looked after. To be so close to such an incredible creature as it goes about its daily life was amazing. There is no riding which I was happy to see and each elephant had a special bond with its guide which was very heartwarming.
We were able to see Rhinos up close with the protection of the elephants beside us. Our guide Dannae was fantastic and very knowledgeable with lots of good stories from years of working in the jungle!
The gardens and pool were prefect for relaxing after jeep safari and we saw hornbills and many other birds every day.
The elephant camp is well thought out and you can see the animals are happy, going out into the wild frequently and bathing in the river at sundown.wonderful to see them living as close to the wild as possible.
All in all a fantastic experience thanks to the river tops team.

Hi Aimee,
The best way to get to Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge from Pokhara is to take the tourist bus to Sauraha, but you need to get off in Bharatpur before you reach Sauraha (otherwise you will just be driving further away from the lodge). From Bharatpur we can arrange a transfer for you to go to Tharu Lodge. It's a 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from Bharatpur to the lodge and costs US$ 20 per person.
Kind regards,
The Tiger Tops Team
Hi, we stayed for 2 nights but I'd have happily stayed on longer! We were able to walk down to the river with the elephants on the afternoon we arrived, then went out on safari the next day. We had the opportunity to make elephant "sandwiches" and to do all we wanted. Yes, travel can be arranged? DP at Nepal Dream Path arranged our car and driver. It was very reasonable.
Generally yes we need but specially at that time no needed
