The Yama Hotel Phuket garners praise for its exceptionally clean and modern accommodations, complemented by a staff that is typically noted for their friendliness and helpfulness. However, there's a split in guest opinion on the hotel's value and location, with some finding the peaceful setting beneficial, enhanced by a shuttle service, and others feeling detached from local attractions.
While the unique room designs, specifically the external wash basins, and some disorganization have been points of contention, the overall atmosphere and amenities, including the pool, are well-received.

Detailed Reviews
We got in pretty late, but check in was smooth and quick. We have a pool access room that’s a great size and has a great view; the room even offers a sitting area and separate shower and tub. There are also lots of options at the breakfast buffet, which is great. There are also English speaking TV channels, which is nice! All of the tours we did that picked up from the hotel did not charge extra for this location which was nice as some other folks did have surcharges from their hotels.

Hotel is in a nice hillside location, quiet and away from all the noise of Kata and Karon, but only 5-10 mins away from the beach via taxi or hotel shuttle, which runs 6 x a day.
Accommodation:
I was in a sea view room, which was lovely. The rooms are modern and well looked after and had a bath with a window looking out into the room.
Service:
The staff are very helpful and polite and try their best to help with any request. The reception, cleaners, pool bar and restaurant staff were always happy to help me.
Food:
The breakfast is varied, but lacked a British / American option of eggs, bacon etc, however that’s understandable in another country where they have to accommodate so many nationalities. However the pancake’s were lovely, and they’ll cook an egg for you to order, plus there’s a selection of juices, cereals, pastries, plus Thai options.
Pool bar menu is simple and decent, with a variety of choices.
Drinks:
This is the only area I think could be improved on. Spirits are the same price as a cocktail and that doesn’t feel right. Also the cocktails could probably be better quality for the money, compared to the cocktails we had in bars and whilst out and about on our trip.
Overall: A great, quiet place to stay to recharge the batteries!

We stayed 10 nights at Yama Hotel Kata Phuket. We arrived late close to midnight and we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. Our room was spacious with a king bed , a separate large bathroom with rainfall shower and a deep soaking tub with a separate toilet. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and views over the city to the sea.
The breakfast buffet was good with hot dishes changed daily. Delicious cooked to order omelettes were ordered every morning. The pool is stunning and a really pretty pool bar with snacks and lunch available.
We had cocktails, a 3 course dinner and a 3 course lunch included in our package.
The food was amazing and large portions.
All the staff are super friendly and speak English. You can organise free hotel shuttle down the hill to Kata Beach daily or they will take you in their car to Patong 500 baht one way.
There were a lot of Russians staying at our hotel and in Phuket in general. They did not follow no smoking rules and despite staffs best efforts this proved to be a problem.
All in all I would recommend Yama Hotel if you want a small boutique hotel away from the hustle and bustle with a touch of luxe.
Hot tip: you must try dinner at the local restaurant(shack) next door. Best local food you will eat and so cheap.

My husband and I stayed at the Yama for 3 nights. Overall the hotel is as described, clean and the staff are very attentive. Service in general is slow. Food was good. The main disadvantage is the location. It is hard and very expensive to move around Phuket and the prices at the hotel for tours, massages, taxi and other services are 25-30% higher than average, this may be normal for hotel prices but if you stay at a hotel in town you can easily walk down the street to get better deals which is not an option here given the location of the hotel. Kata is a 20 minutes walk from the hotel and while they have a complimentary shuttle, this is only available between 10 am - 4:30 pm.

I’m a person who does a lot of background research before I stay anywhere. I read the reviews and also checked on a map so I knew the hotel was on a hill a bit away from the beach and envisaged a shortish stroll past shops and restaurants etc. How wrong I was!
My taxi left the beach and Kata village and started heading uphill: I kept thinking it can’t be much further but it was… The hotel is on a 4 lane main road and then up a steep windy side street. It really is too far away from everything. The main road just contains roadside shacks. If you are in your 20s and have hired a motorbike, you will be fine, but if you are a family, older or retired, you are at the mercy of the hotel shuttle which only runs 3 a day to the beach or expensive taxis.
Pool area was ok but rooftop terrace which seems to feature in all the photos was closed.
My room was big with a ‘Mountain View’. Interesting configuration - the toilet and shower were separate from each other behind glass doors and the sink was in the bedroom. However what I didn’t like was the breakage/damage/loss policy - everything was itemised even down to flannels, pillowcases and toothbrush glass. Totally overboard in my opinion. Same with signing in and out pool towels.
If you turn right from the hotel street, cross the main road (no mean feat) and then take the first left where the mailbox is, there are restaurants and a 7-Eleven and minimart. It’s about 10 minutes walk away from the hotel in total. The Italian restaurant was very good.
All in all, and odd location to build a hotel. Price was cheap for 2 nights but now I can see why!

Not a lot of hotels look exactly like their website pictures - This hotel does!!
A beautifully designed & maintained welcome & reception area which incorporates metal cutouts of their logo (I like that stuff :))
The rooms & shower area is gorgeous alongside that, the pool & bar is the same.
Food- the menu is not extensive but the food is well presented & tasty.
Breakfast is fresh salads, rice, pad Thai & you can request eggs/omelettes.
Drinks - cocktails are good & there’s a range of other beverages.
Everyone we met were friendly & respectful… but I felt the same with every person we met in Thailand.
I would definitely return & grateful for the help & direction of Ken & the hotel team. Xx

Beautiful place with the most friendly staff.
Location (3/5) :
The hotel is tucked away on a hillside so it's not easy to walk around the hotel but it's perfectly with awesome sunset views. The hotel provides a shuttle to Kata Beach each hour.
Room (Superior) (5/5) :
A spacious room size with the views from the personal balcony.
Comfy bed with many pillows is provided.
Lovely bathroom design feature in the loft style with bathtub.
A toilet seperate from a shower room, as well mirror and sink is outside the bathroom is an advantage for couple stay.
Staff/Service (4/5) :
Front desk staffs : Superb staff very friendly, well trained and hepful.
Pool : The pool and jacuzzi are fabulous.
WiFi : WiFi is fantastic.
Restaurant: should be a room for improvement, breakfast menu is not too many choice. Lack of staffs during the covid situation, left over used dishes on the table, kitchen staffs with multiple talks, cooking and table cleaning in a same time.

Good afternoon. We rested in this hotel in March 2024 with our family.
First about the rooms: large comfortable rooms, very comfortable mattresses/pillows on the beds, large bath/shower, air conditioning. Soundproofing of the rooms is at the highest level! The rooms are cleaned every day and the bed is changed once every three days.
Breakfast is not like in Turkey, but you definitely won’t leave hungry: scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs, fresh vegetables/fruits, cereals, sausages, cheese, various buns, coffee, juices and there are also various Thai dishes. The hotel has a small but very beautiful swimming pool with sun loungers. There is also a bar next to the pool where you can eat lunch/dinner and drink soft/alcoholic drinks (though the prices are high when compared with prices in the city itself). The hotel staff is polite, if you don’t know English, you can communicate with the help of a translator. There will be no problems with this.
As a result: the hotel is a solid 4*!
But there is one nuance that you need to know and take into account: the hotel is located a 30-minute walk from the sea on the mountain. The hotel has a shuttle to and from the sea, but it does not run as conveniently as we would like, from 10-00 to 18-00, and in the heat you want to get to the sea earlier. I repeat once again that the hotel is located on a mountain, and if in the morning you can walk to the sea, then the way back in the midday heat up the mountain and even in the heat is a so-so journey. Next to the hotel there is a small store and a small cafe - and that's all! There is no other infrastructure nearby. Yes, due to the fact that the hotel is remote from the sea/cafes/shops, it is quiet and peaceful there in the evening, but you must understand that either you adjust to the transfer schedule or you rent scooters or you will use a taxi (to the beach taxi 100-150 baht depending on demand). To walk to shops/cafes/pharmacies, you still have to cross a road where there is no traffic light, and the traffic there, to put it mildly, is simply chaotic and unusual for us. Of course, after 2 days you get used to everything :-)
Our wish to the hotel: please make a transfer to the sea starting from 9 am and every hour until 18-00.

From the welcoming drink, to the registration staff, the incredible Chef Adul, very helpful wait staff - Mgr. KK, wait staff - Tammy, BB, Ped, Yao, PU and the many others who waited on us during our enjoyable, relaxing stay. We would stay here any time, the room was very comfortable, the a/c worked excellent, the housekeeping did a tremendous job of our room and supplied some entertainment with their towel art! Hopefully we will return someday. They hosted a Valentines Day dinner which we attended & were blown away with the attention to detail that Yao & others did in decorating and the Chef did an amazing job of the beef tenderloin. We also enjoyed meeting others staying there from many parts of the globe, while enjoying the comfortable deck chairs around the inviting swimming pool.

Totally a disappointing stay at this hotel and surprised that this hotel has good ratings in social media.
Had booked it via Booking.com for 3 nights. Experience from the start was so irritating. Due to flight delay, came to hotel around 4 pm but had to wait for 30 minutes because they havent readied a room and were hurrying at the last moment.
Booked a sea view but was given a corner room. The room designs itself poor as the wash basin is actually not in the bathroom and it is outside. Every time you use a restroom or bathroom, you have to come out of the room to wash your hands. Not sure who designed this way - worst I have seen in my life. Bathroom Doors didnt have a lock. Complained to reception and the helper came and informed that all bathrooms in this hotel are without lock and it was cracking when I tried to close or open. Called the reception to check that. They sent an Engineer and he did some work for 30 minutes and said he will need additional plumbers to come and check.
Requested for a room change and they said I should leave the package out in the morning and they would only allocate after 2 pm. I informed already have plans to go out and will not be available, so wanted them to arrange that for me accordingly. When I queried them later on Friday, they put the blame on us stating they called the room and we didn't pick and hence we weren't allocated. Idiots - that is what I already informed earlier and smartly the young girl who was the receptionist was putting the blame on us. When my wife started complaining about this poor room allocation, she ran away. Then called reception to send a plumber with an additional helper and they came in after an hour, they again spent about 30-45 minutes and said it could not be fixed and they initially informed that all doors had no lock and this is how it will be. Then for what purpose, these plumbers came and checked the bathrooms.
Worst hotel staff, unprofessional commitments and service.

The bar is a no cash area but they send the bills up to the reception area where they will print them off for you to check them as I just paid my bill every day so I didn't use anything or end up with a big bill and yes they serve lunch and evening meal menu I hope this helps.
