Beautiful heritage property, nicely maintained. Charming colonial wooden structure.
It's one of the most peaceful places I've ever stayed at. Could hear my own heartbeat at night.

The staff is truly exceptional. Mr Suraj Subba, the Food and Beverages manager suggested the best meals according to my preferences, even going so far as to personally preparing delicious dishes off the menu.
Overall the food was really good, from the Santosh Rai chicken curry to the thukpas, or the complimentary breakfasts.

Mr Ravindra, the manager was helpful and friendly. So were the receptionists and all the staff honestly. When i requested them to change my room, to one with a better view of Kanchenjunga, they happily obliged.

Highly recommended for a quiet, peaceful stay, away from all the noise.

My father and I visited Cochrane after months of staying at home and what an incredible experience we had!It took us just about an hour to reach from the Bagdogra airport. I fell in love with the property, the second I laid my eyes on it. It has a certain charm to it that makes you feel at home within moments. The incredibly friendly staff definitely play a huge role in making Cochrane one of the best places I've ever stayed in. The food served in Cochrane is overwhelmingly delicious, especially the local dishes like the Raye Saag Chicken! The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. My favourite spot in the hotel is their terrace balcony which overlooks a lush green valley, literally feeling like a slice of heaven. It is in this spot, that the staff organises magical bon fire nights that we thoroughly enjoyed. This was my first travel during the global pandemic but each and every staff at Cochrane made sure all my anxiety left my mind due to the precautions they were taking to ensure every thing and everyone was sanitized. The protocols were followed with care, which made this get away not only beautiful and memorable but also a really safe one. We thank all the staff who made our vacation such a perfect one and recommend Cochrane to anyone who needs a safe and amazing vacation!

The warm smile of Deepa greeted us when the outside temperature read 6°C and we were ushered in in the century old colonial bungalow of late Percy John Cochrane perched between two world famous lush tea gardens of Castleton and Makaibari. We started soaking in the nostalgic British era decor while sipping on the piping hot Darjeeling tea and could not stop falling in love with the place at once.

Cochrane Place in lower Kurseong is not just a property or a 'boutique hotel' as the website claims, but is an experience in itself. You need to stay here to know. Even before one enters the walk through reception area, a classic yellow Beetle and two Land Rovers from the old age, greet the guests.

We stayed in Pandim (yes, the rooms have names too) in the first floor overlooking the picturesque valley in the west and we could not take our eyes off from the vista. It is indescribably beautiful, with Mt Kanchenjungha standing gracefully beyond the valley and mountain ranges.

One should however stay here only to enjoy nature and discover the sweet bonds of one's own family which is getting lost in the hustle of city life. The rooms have all modern amenities though including an idiot box with all the channels. Try to ignore that. Instead, go out and explore the nursery and orchid room they have, the innumerous interesting nooks and corners, the lovely terrace or the surrounding area. You are assured to find something that you will love.

Dinner is served early at 7 and closes at 8.30. We had an amazing local talent, Sooraj, singing live during dinner. Don't be late or you will miss him as he leaves at 8 typically. Overall, the wooden corridors, carpeted ramp, warm glow of lamps and the smell of heritage took us to a time we read only in history books.

We met the charming Debasree Di, a friend of the current owners, during our stay who looks after the overall experience of the guests and made us feel a part of the Cochrane family; such is the hospitality you can expect when you check in.

A must do experience in Kurseong!

We stayed at Cochrane during early October 2021 and wished to cancel the rest of our holiday and extend our stay here. A wonderful experience, starting with quaint old wide charm well appointed rooms with modern amenities and British era decor throughout the place with even a VW Beetle fixed on the roof to give the hotel a Bohemian welcome touch and thus break the formality of the place. F&B service was excellent; a novel thing was ordering a la carte breakfast and dinner without buffet service despite breakfast being inclusive with stay.

Highly recommended, cannot be better value for money anywhere else in this region including more popular destinations in Darjeeling

Our special thanks to GM Mr. Kang who took time out to detail us about Kurseong and its history and the past and present of the hotel.

Our gratitude to F&B manager Pradhan who served us with love and plenty of care, and went out that extra mile to make our stay happy, comfortable and unforgettable.

If time and situation permits, we shall surely return, this time for a longer stay.

We wish the property all success for the future

Recently I had visited this heritage property and had booked an Deluxe category room but when I checked into the property I got an auto upgradation to Duplex suite (sittong suite). Duplex suit has amazing sunset view with 2 rooms attached to it in different floor with classic theme which will give you an vibe of British era ambiance. Property has an rooftop cafe with wide spread of tea, snacks etc.., and I personally loved the makaibari tea with an view of tea estate. Property is surrounded by mountains and tea estate which keep the place freezing. I would suggest them to work on there breakfast menu by making few modification based on current requirement and considering the theme that place has been build.

Mr. Ravindra and Mr. Ronnie were great host and made my stay beautiful and relaxed.

It is always a pleasure to visit Cochrane Place. We have stopped here a few times during our weekend bike rides and this time, had a delightful stay over the weekend with my father in law. The ambience, the hospitality, the food, the rooms and oh, the garden area!! There are so many quaint and old things displayed throughout the lobby and common areas. We stayed in the Deluxe rooms, which were quite large and had lovely old-wood sturdy beds and each room also had an attached little sit-out balcony which offered a view of the hills.

Special mention of the entire staff, who were always ready to please with a smile, be it the ladies at the Reception, the boys helping with the luggage or the young men in the Restaurant who are ably supervised by the F&B manager Mr.Ronnie Das. And of course, the gentleman who quietly handles the place, Mr Ravindra Kang - it's always a pleasure to interact with him. Thank you, Team Cochrane!

My husband and me stayed here for 3 nights in this January. This was our first trip across pandemic. Naturally we were a bit skeptical.

But right from picking us from Bagdogra airport until dropping again back there, we were completely taken care off and we felt as if we were at home.

As you enter the hotel, history and heritage from 19th century will welcome you with warmth and grandeur, yet you will get every possible modern amenities.

Our room, named Kinchinjhau, had a small balcony, where you can get mesmerizing view of mighty Kanchenjungha. Every corner of the room as well as the hotel was neat and clean; luminous and shining with soft glow lights.

Chai Country, the cafeteria cum restaurant needs special mention; and obviously the terrace adjacent to it, overlooking the lush green valley.

Far from hustle & bustle of city life, this is probably one of the best place to enjoy solitude; and feel the immensity of The Himalayas.

Again, the hotel is nestled between two renowned tea estates, Castleton and Makaibari....you can enjoy the beauty of tea garden.

Food was great, special mention: home made apple pie and muffin.

I thank all the staff members, including driver Sabin and Sagar for hospitality extended to us.

Thank you once again Debashree di and Mr. Dasgupta.

So, if anyone wishes to explore Kurseong, staying at Cochrane Place is a must.

When I started browsing and shortlisting hotels in the hills of Bengal for a retreat to write in isolation, I happened to call Cochrane Place , Kurseong. The soft but assuring voice of Mr Ravindra Kang, GM of the property on the other end answered all my queries with absolute sincerity. He mentioned of the internet challenges in Kurseong which is more than made up by the large tastefully done spacious room that overlooked the foothills of the Himalayas. My decision after the call to spend 4 nights in the Deluxe room , with a small balcony with garden on the ground floor was completely justified. What an exquisitely crafted boutique hotel, which once was the stately colonial home of Britisher Percy Cochrane. Right from the 1962 Beetle perched above as we enter the hotel to the Old vintage Land Rovers , set the tone. Inside, one can spend hours gazing at the pleasing wooden wall panels, the ethnic furniture, the collection of old typewriters and clocks on display, the masks that adorn the walls .. it just made me want to curl up with cup of hot darjeeling tea and soak it all in, when not looking down at the lush green tea gardens below. I just fell in love with the feeling of this old world charm complete with all modern amenities that one can ask for on a holiday. The cuisine offered a wide variety of local, indian , chinese and continental food . The chef was amazing and kept me smiling and well fed. Kudos to the entire housekeeping and restaurant staff for that ever present smile and care that they were ready with anytime of the day. And finally I cannot thank Mr Ravindra enough, for helping me choose the hotel and making my stay , a perfect memorable experience … and I hardly stepped out of the premises the 4 days I stayed. On my return I immediately recommended to my wife and friends for a trip soon. This is a must experience , my 10 on 10 hotel , anyday!!

A place that's over 100 years old has its share of stories and hidden secrets, some anecdotes handed down from one generation to another, Cochrane Place has all this and more.
Having read some online comments about this being a haunted place, we were apprehensive and excited at the same time, we hired a taxi from Siliguri town for Rs.1500 one way from a travel agency, it took us around 90 mins to get to Cochrane Place with a 2 brief stops to admire the views Enroute. Unusual rains and warm weather greeted us at Kurseong, a Delhi based family owns this place now and have been restoring the building in phases.
One one side the property over looks the Makaibari forest and Taj Chia Kutir, the other side is unending hills, the staff says you get glimpses of Kanchenjunga peaks on a clear day... we stayed here for 2 nights.
THE ROOM: as is to be expected in a 100 yr property, lots of wood, bed is comfortable there is no AC, time we stayed was humid and warm due to the rains, we asked for and got a pedestal fan. there was a bit of damp smell in the room, sheets were clean and crisp. Bath is very spacious, and well equipped with hot water on tap. nice view of the hills from the small balcony.
THE FOOD:

This outstanding hotel is a destination in itself. Warm, hospitable, impeccably designed and kept, this heritage property in Kurseong is a place to experience.
It's rooms are personally and intimately appointed, the dining space consists of a verandah overlooking a valley, and a kitchen which brings out an incomparable international cuisine.
Leave aside Darjeeling. Stay in Cochrane Place and use it as a springboard to go wherever you want.
