This was one of the worst hotel experiences ever. The hotel is located in a ghost town. There is literally nothing in the entire village. The restaurant is mediocre. There is only the option of three preset menus. No A la carte. The wine list is extremely limited for the restaurant located in the Loire Valley. Food presentation is the judge....

This the second time in a week we have been to Donzy and throughly enjoyed the experience. We chose the three course set menu on both occasions, and the Chef's recommendations in particular. We like to eat local dishes wherever we stay as this style of food is generally unavailable outside of France. The service was excellent, the dining room...

The staff and owners did more than expected in making my stay excellent. I was traveling on my bicycle, and they gave me tools to clean it, offered to drive me to a repairshop, and was so attentive a nice, that I can not recommend this hotel enough. The hotel itself is charming and inviting, with just the right touch...

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay after a day visiting Guedelon. The hotel we found to be very traditional and quite immaculate. The old kitchen which was, we are glad to say, no longer working, had an old range beneath a row of copper pans. Our bedroom was spacious and very clean. The dinner we had was good and...

We stayed for New Years Eve. Marc (owner and chef) prepared a fantastic feast for all to enjoy! This is our second stay in this wonderful hotel, that is a hidden gem in the French countryside. The owners can't do enough to ensure you have a perfect stay. Anne-Marie helped us source some local Sancerre wine from their suppliers and...

An ideal French experience, from the charming reception, to an excellent lunch and a bright, clean and well appointed room. My only dissapointment was that work preparing a local farm for a technical trial kept me away from the restaurant and any other food that evening. I will however make a point of staying and eating here again soon. The...

Yet again another excellent but short stay. As usual we received a warm welcome and we look forward to our next visit. The restaurant meals and service are exceptional and we always enjoy dining with friends at Le Grand Monarque. Thank you Anne-Marie and Marc.

Donzy is a great unspoilt pretty little village convenient when visiting Sancerre and this end of the Loire. Le Grand Monarque is a charming very comfortable hotel run by the proprietors, Anne –Marie, restaurant and reception and Mark the Chef, both of whom are quite delightful and provide friendly efficient service. Our room at the top of a spiral stone...

The spacious rooms are very well-appointed and decorated in a charming manner, the buffet breakfasts are excellent, and the wonderful evening meals had good variety and were presented with great care and attention to detail. We had a very warm welcome from the staff, who couldn't have been more helpful. The room was very clean, and beautifully decorated and I liked the feature of one stone wall left uncovered in this very old building. There is free WiFi. The restaurant had a very French ambiance. Again, the staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing....
