Detailed Reviews
Serena is the perfect place to mix the best relax in an exclusive but informal ambiance just on the beach, few miles from the center of Punta del Este.
The location is perfect, everything is simple, minimal and chic, with some East Asian echoes, a delicious pool on the beach, white ultra comfortable mattresses spread around, an only adult policy, a stunning restaurant always dominating the beach and serving a very good breakfast and delicious lunch and dinner, always with classic or jazz music as background.
What else ? The standard rooms, enough expensive anyway, are not big but comfortable, bright and functional. The service is absolutely excellent.
Serena gives serenity and a real sense to stay some days at Punta del Est.

A lovely, low-key setting on a wide sandy beach along Rio de la Plata west of downtown. Rooms are bright and cheery, bar fully stocked, full-on breakfast buffet with hot breakfast items prepared to order. Staff couldn’t be nicer. Be prepared for about a $200 taxi to/from the Montevideo international airport. I suspect bus service might be available, but I did not explore that option.

Response from Serena Ventas, Sales at Serena Hotel Punta Del Este

Dear, thank you very much for taking the time to write about your experience at Serena Hotel. We are glad to know that you had an excellent stay. Regarding the means of transportation from Carrasco airport, there is indeed a bus that is comfortable and more accessible than the remise/taxi option. In high season there are also direct flights to Punta del Este airport.

The restaurant Al Mar was really fantastic! A beautiful setting. The tables are on a deck over the beach. You dine to the sound of the waves.
The food was excellent . The servings were large and I suggest sharing. The octopus tentacle was sublime and so were the scallops. The carpaccio and the salmon tartar very good too. Our friends had the lamb cutlets and the filet mignon with pepper sauce and were very happy with them! We did not make it to the pudding!
The service was good, although the drinks we had ordered to accompany the sunset took rather a long time to arrive
The best meal we have had in Punta del Este

I should be writing a glowing review of this hotel, but unfortunately some very sharp practice by the hotel management spoiled what would have been an enjoyable stay. Firstly the good stuff. The setting is beautiful, right on the beach and yards from a bus stop which enables you to get to the heart of Punta del Este. The staff are very helpful especially the lovely Carolina on the front Desk and the superb Housekeeping team. The Pool is well kept and provides some super-comfortable mattresses for sunbathing. The Restaurant is, however, a different story. The first thing we were told when we arrived at the hotel was to visit their restaurant, as guests receive a 10% discount (which, by the way, is immediately wiped out by a 10% Service Charge which is factored into the bill) and that if you use a credit card, you receive a further 22% discount, as a result of not paying VAT. In all other restaurants in Punta del Este that we visited, the VAT was indeed taken off the bill. But not at Hotel Serena. After complaining at the restaurant itself, we were told to complain to the Front Desk, which we did. They admitted that the VAT had not been subtracted (it was clearly stated on the bill), but said they could do nothing about it. They said the money would be refunded on our credit card bill on our return to the UK. We felt we were being fobbed off. And we were, because when we received our credit card bill at home, the money had not been refunded. We spoke to Santander and they said the tax should have been deducted by the hotel and they, Santander, could do nothing about it. We felt we had been cheated by Hotel Serena and their response to our complaint was wholly unsatisfactory. The meal by the way was OK, but not spectacular, although the price was very high. Our advise would be, if you choose to stay at the Hotel, do NOT eat at their restaurant as you will find much better value in restaurants in Punta del Este, and will stand less chance of being ripped off.

Hotel located on the sand of Punta del Este, with two swimming pools (one heated indoor and one cold outdoor) but we couldn't use the outdoor one even going in the summer, as it was cold. There is a hotel restaurant with a great breakfast and a restaurant attached to the hotel that is very beautiful and pleasant, so much so that we had dinner there two nights. The sunset is wonderful. I recommend the hotel.

We spent our 26th wedding anniversary and my birthday in this paradisiacal place. The entire team is always concerned about ensuring the well-being of guests. The only hotel on the sand in Punta. The Mansa restaurant is also wonderful! We already want to go back.

So my husband wanted to take me to Punta del Este since it was my first time in Uruguay. It was a beautiful hotel, and only one directly on the beach. The staff went above and beyond. The heated indoor pool was great since it was too cold to get in the ocean or get in the outside pool. They recommended great restaurants downtown. I would truly stay there again if I returned

A hotel on the beach that makes it a kind of resort.
Good and basic facilities, nothing more is needed.
Breakfasts with an a la carte buffet concept that make it rich and sufficient.
Very friendly staff.
Perhaps to improve the restaurant menu, which is limited and restrictive, and by insisting, changes were made.
Otherwise a fabulous experience.
I would return without a doubt.

Stayed for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) for US$240/night including breakfast.
This was the 3rd stop on our honeymoon through the area after 7 unbelievable nights at both Four Seasons Buenos Aires and then FS Carmelo.
Serena opened about 1 year ago and banks very much on the image of exclusiveity. The room was tiny, queen with a shower (no tub) with a view over the carpark north up the beach...location is great for those who prefer to walk from their room to the beach with mimimal effort..its on the beach (it is an old government culinary school)....
Location goodo for the beach but nowhere near the bars/clubs or restaurants of Punta del Este. So a car is a good idea, otherwise taxi is the solution for 10min ride down to the main drag.
Bar/Restaurant/Pool area is very good looking and great for festering by the pool all night/day...good analogy is the Hudson Hotel New York...great bar/social scene but the rooms leave a lot to be desired of.....

I've already been to many hotels in Punta, and this is one that I'll never come back.
First it lacks space in the rooms. No room for the luggage, no room to put a computer or even my makeup. The bedrooms are very, very small, with a tiny closet (I had to hang my dresses in the bathroom...).
Even though the suites happen to be slightly bigger, still don't worth the price.
Although the beach and the sunset are beautiful, the view from the rooms is not nice. And the worst part is that] it is almost impossible to sleep at night, ‘cause there is a lot of clarity going through the doors due to its bad execution. I am also really sorry about the horrible finishing that the constructors gave to the room’s mill work.
The location is good to walk to the beach, but far from everything else.
The staff is pretentious and the owner of the hotel just doesn’t give a [--] about it. And he is also rude and impolite.
My advice is that you choose among “Posta del Cangrejo” (located by the beach and also an excellent hotel); “Baie des Anges”(same region of Serena but much better service), “Remanso” (very good option on Gorlero street, very central), “Äwa” (boutique hotel next to the mall).

Boa tarde.
