Clean, simple, quiet and friendly. Great for a short stay in San Carlos. Walkable with backpacks from the Rio San Juan ferry and from the bus terminal. Restaurant next door is excellent. Appreciated the offer of a downstairs room in the back overlooking the garden for the same price as the upstairs windowless rooms.

Good points: hotel located in a quiet side street, but walking distance from the port, a restaurant with wifi next door, where you could spend most of the evening, a helpful, English-speaking owner, breakfast good and included in the price. Bad points: the room was dark, tiny and stuffy, with a small bed and no mosquito net.

This hotel has insect screens so the mosquitoes are not a bother. My room was comfortable and had a well functioning fan. I was given a fresh towel everyday. My room was upstairs so I had glimpses of the lake. The area is quiet. I slept very well here and would return.

San Carlos is a small, gritty, end-of-the-road, port town - boats departing for the Río San Juan and the Solentiname Islands. There aren't many choices for hotel rooms. The Cabinas Leyko is old, clean, simple, quiet, near the lakeside, no air conditioning but with rotating fans in rooms, wooden-floored, chairs-out-on-the-balcony hotel. Breakfast is included at the restaurant next door. The...

After a long bus ride from Managua, we arrived at Hotel Cabinas Leyko for a triple room which we had booked through booking.com. The A/C worked fine and we had a lovely garden view. The proprietor was friendly and helpful and the room was large enough for our needs. Unfortunately, there was no hot water for showers. Breakfast was good...

We've paid $ 50 for the better rooms with AC (fan only much cheaper) and got one with AC failure - automatic switch off after one hour of operation and no hot water for shower. Then we changed to a similar room, there AC was working in TURBO - mode only - or nothing. Every malfunction was immediately announced to...

I had a twin standard room with private bathroom (booked through booking.com). As other reviewers have said, the rooms with air con were double the price so I decided to go budget. It definitely was 'budget'. My room was upstairs, above the reception area. There was no outside window, just a corridor with rooms off of it. The rooms were...

We were in a twin bed room. It was clean, but extremely small. We had a shared bathroom. We arrived on the 10pm bus after a long day of hiking and were extremely disappointed to discover the water was shut off. The bathrooms were clean. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special given the price (US$24).

As noted in other reviews, there are different room types which will likely provide dramatically different experiences. I stayed in a non-air conditioned room - air conditioning was double the price. What I did not realize is the poor room design makes the room sweltering. The only window is to the corridor between rooms so you don't get fresh air....

We stayed here twice on this trip, one night on our way to Los Guatuzos, one night on our way out. The nicer rooms (out back, or down on the lower level below entrance door) are really much, well, nicer, and worth the investment for a quiet night's sleep. I loved the friendly, helpful service. The attached restaurant offers a...
