Coco Shambhala is a collection of four luxury villas for exclusive holidays in Sindhudurg, India. Set in a tropical garden, barely 200 metres off the beach, the villas are designed as inclusive, barefoot retreats, each with their own infinity pool looking out to the sea.
A big big thank you and absolutely greatful to Cleto D’mello and his absolutely wonderful staff. Thank you for the most memorable and wonderful trip. 10 day break from homeschool and my husband asks me let’s go on a holiday - I said no way I’m going on a flight, what about hygiene what checks? He said let’s drive down to Sindhudurg to the divine Coco Shambhala I said fine and we did our Covid tests (a pre requisite at the property’s) and off we went. 10 hour drive with two kids and absolutely absolutely worth every km.
The villas were just gorgeous, absolutely child friendly, and the food just supreme. The private infinity pool with a view of the ocean would put this amongst the best of what Bali would offer. The villa was very well stocked with all the amenities. The villa is very well appointed with a functioning small kitchenette, wine chiller ad a mini fridge.
We were so spoiled by Cleto and his team - a set up at the beach one morning (the beach is pretty much uninhabited and clean with clear water), relaxing massages, round the clock service and a beautifully set up last dinner with amazing barbecued goodies.
Hygiene is superb and they were careful about everything and my paranoia was gone. They sanitised our bags, and our car inside and outside, everyone the property wore masks at all times.
My kids roamed around the property by themselves without a worry in the world.
(Also I want to add its pet friendly and I could go in and on)

We stayed here in March for 10 days as a family with two small children. This was the first long haul we had been on with the kids.
We stayed in the first villa, as this was the best for the kids. The accomodation is fantastic! Great views, comfortable, spacious and probably the best view I have ever had on holiday! Beautiful sea views, the pool, plants, monkeys, birds and other wildlife right on your doorstep.
The hospitality was great. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is out of this world, served in your accommodation, and staff give you detail about what local ingredients are used and the cooking process. They'll also give you reccomendations. Chocolate ganache was one of our favourites. They are also happy to make additional kid friendly options.
It is set in a quiet location, a very short walk from the almost deserted beach. Staff will set you up on the beach for the day with towels etc.
We both had treatments at the spa, which were again brilliant!
We didn't really do many trips out other than a boat ride to see dolphins, and a river boat trip. I would reccomend both.
The staff really make this place extra special. The children loved playing with them, and my little girl who is 3 was treated to daily activities.
I don't really want to go on holiday anywhere else ever again! It is so special.

Whilst growing up in India in 70’s- 90’s, I used to spend my summer holidays at my grandparents place in Bhogwe. It was then a remote village and any tourist, specifically a foreigner, was a novelty for locals.
My husband, who is British and I, have been to Bhogwe several times since 2009. We would discuss how beautiful the area is and wished that no big hotel chain would venture into this calm unspoiled place and ruin it with mega influx of tourists!!
On this short visit to Bhogwe , we decided to stay at CoCo Shambala. It is a quiet oasis, in a tropical garden forest, overlooking peaceful coastline of Arabian Sea. Amazing wild bird song fills the air, and the infinity pool takes you even closer to the wildlife. There is plenty of space in the 2 bedroom chalets ( only 4 of which are on site, and hidden from view). The fridge is well stocked with wine, craft beers and chilled water. What can I say about culinary offerings? Just amazing seasonal local food, fresh seafood cooked just for you.
The views were so amazing we didn’t even close our curtains, and just woke naturally to the sunrise and dawn chorus.
Just be aware though, the staff will need to regularly attend the chalet ( there is no front door, just a privacy rope) to bring in fresh food, water, room servicing etc, which might not suit couples looking for privacy. However, staff ring a hand bell at the bottom of stairs before approaching your villa.
That said, the staff are very friendly, and they take pride in the attention they give to make your stay perfect. Most of them are also from a local community.
CoCo Shambala can provide a vehicle to collect you from the local airport ( 15 mins away), or even from the main airport in Goa, some two and a half hours drive away.
In all, a much more enjoyable and interesting stay than our trip to the Maldives a few years ago, which it could be argued, aims to offer a similar experience.

An absolute gem of a destination. A rare combination of amazing food and outstanding service in a secluded location where one would least expect such a magical experience. I think Giles and his team - Cleto, Harish, Sanket, Atmaram have done wonders with the place. The food was the freshest and tastiest we’ve had in a long time. The privacy is unparalleled and the excursions to Nivati and the back waters were phenomenal. Not had such a peaceful and perfect getaway in a long time.

CocoShambala at Sindhudurg is the perfect place to relax, restore and recalibrate. It is a high end luxury boutique property with attention to detail as their biggest draw. The location, on a hill, decor that uses sustainable materials, the wholesome gourmet meals and the ever-smiling and super efficient staff make CocoShambala a place that we want to return to every year. The beach is a walk down, and most mornings we had the entire beach to ourselves. We also explored the backwaters of the Karli river which we found to be quite therapeutic. We enjoyed watching a plethora of birds and the ripples of quiet village life. I must add that the view from the villa is sublime and as we’re all into bird watching, every morning and evening it was a treat to sit back and spot these beautiful creatures. Did I say the staff are very well trained - friendly yet discreet. Everything there runs smoothly. The food is top notch and we particularly enjoyed the ridge gourd salad, bottle gourd with sesame soup, Malvani seafood and curry leaf cooler. We were pampered to no end and I even learnt how to make Malvani prawn curry with kokum and clam sukka with fresh coconut. I could go on and on but let me just say it is a fabulous place for the entire family and we couldn’t get enough of it.

What a super place! A hidden gem in the middle of the Western Ghats.
The villas are priced at top dollar but they are worth every penny. It’s everything you want out of an exclusive experience and there is very little negative to say about it. Right from the food to the rooms to the pool to the surrounding green hills abs beach, this place is superb. The staff is very friendly and steeped in local knowledge. And a special shout out to the chef and his team for customising every meal to our preference. Every single lunch and dinner was superb with no criticism from us.
My only hope is that with the new airport having opened now right next doors the location doesn’t get over run by too many tourists, as for now it is really a hidden and untouched gem.

Fantastic welcome at the Sindhudurg property arrival was very late at night but staff nevertheless willing to stay up to give us a meal. Lots to do and see for the duration of our stay. Food and beverage service was excellent - so much wonderful food. Cleto and his team were huge fun to spend time with, New Year was a highlight - a feast at the beach BBQ, Santa made a special appearance, fireworks and a little bit of dancing ensued. Then a few days relaxing with Lumens team in Goa, making everything run smoothly and more excellent food catered individually for us. Quiet and restful retreat, we thank both teams who worked so hard to make for such a memorable end to 2019 and start to 2020- hope to return soon.

This hotel is exceptional. The villa accomodation is spacious, luxurious & beautiful with wonderful views of the sea & beach. The staff were incredible - helpful, friendly & smiley, cheerful people. Cleto, the manager, is very good to both guests & staff alike. Sachin & Vidyshankar are lovely people & couldn't do enough to help us. All the staff interacted with us in the most friendly, helpful manner. They're always ready to chat & have a laugh with us. The food (freshly prepared) is brought up to your villa by one or two cheerful staff members, who explain exactly what you are eating & every meal was more delicious than the last. I can't recommend this place highly enough & anyone who visits is in store for a real treat on every level.

Travelling with a diverse group of 18, including infants, kids, young couples, and elderly members, can prove to be a daunting task when it comes to finding accommodations that cater to everyone's needs. Nonetheless, our experience at Coco Shambala was nothing short of exceptional, and we are grateful to have stumbled upon this gem.
The location itself was a sight to behold, a stunningly landscaped oasis set against the Konkan waterfront, offering a breathtaking sea view that spanned as far as the eye could see. Each villa boasted a private pool, a common area complete with a well-stocked bar, and luxurious rooms that left nothing to be desired.
However, what truly sets Coco Shambala apart from the rest is its staff. The team here was remarkable, catering to the needs of every age group with warmth, care, and a constant smile. Their attention to detail, exceptional service, and overall congeniality made our stay all the more comfortable and memorable.
I have no qualms in proclaiming Coco Shambala to be among the world's finest luxury hotels, and it goes without saying that I would return with my family, friends, or for a romantic couples' getaway at any given opportunity. Wow and awe stuck from Moment u arrive and till u check out …Stupendous , spellbound with this piece of paradise …This was my only second trip and we r all sure many will follow …The views are unbelievable and unparallel to any beach properties In India . What’s more there is no Resturant means from an early morning Masala tea till ur Last Desert of the Night all SERVED IN UR VILLA PRIVACY.
