There's no place like le Monte d'Oro. We drove there last summer and had a great dinner in the big dining room, with its argenterie and old fashioned plates. I had typical Corsican meat with mushrooms which was heavy but very good. My girlfriend had a gratin of blue cheese and walnuts she talked about for an entire a year. So, this summer, we decided to sleep there. It's a one star hotel but the room we got was quite big, perfectly clean and quite lovely. The bed was very comfy and quite large. Bit expensive, it's 100 euros, but still worth it. The shower head was broken, but, eh, it's a one star hotel. What else do you expect? I read many bad reviews, mostly from french people complaining about the place looking old and the staff not being professional. It is what makes the soul of the place. The staff is typically Corsican in an old fashioned way. They don't really care, they leave dogs rooming around, they forget to charge you for a beer or a coffee. They're nice, decent, friendly people. The place is unique. It has a disused living room with an enormous fireplace I would dream to see working. To do so, I'll have to go back later in the year and I will. I could honestly not be friend with someone who don't enjoy the place. I love it. Just go ahead.

This is a one of a kind place, situated above the main village, a 3.4km walk from the station. Guess who did not know that they run a shuttle service! It takes about fifty minutes to walk by road. If you are coming off the north half of the GR20, it is well signed from the nearby Cascade des Anglais. It has real old charm, and the main building is warren of eccentrically decorated ground floor rooms. Everyone is incredibly friendly (not always the case in Corsica!!!!), and trekkers sit around in the bar or the small courtyard swapping experiences with drinks before dinner. The huge dining room is bedecked with ivy (is that wise?) and served by charming staff. The food was excellent, perhaps the best of the hotel restaurants on the northern GR, perhaps too much even for those with inflated appetites from the trail. Breakfast is equally well supplied. We were in an annex just up from the main building which was perfectly adequate, though hardly luxe. Id love to go again!

We stopped for a very good lunch. The 27€ set menu seemed a bit expensive but actually you get a good size glass of wine and a coffee as well as 3 courses. The aubergines were amazing. Veal was very good and the chocolate mousse was excellent. Very relaxed, lovely shady courtyard.

We were actually staying at a Camping site 100 m north of the Grand Hotel Monte D'Oro. The Camping Site called "Gite dans la foret de Vizzavona" was far from the standard and service we were looking for. Unfortunately we were not allowed to cancel our reservation, but truly we survived with the gentle and warm hospitality from the charming Madame at Grand Hotel Mont D'Oro. While sleeping at the camping site we spent the rest of our resting time between expeditions in the area in the charming and friendly atmosphere at Mont D'Oro. The restaurant is excellent with high quality food and professional service.

This is really one of a kind property, a true family business dating over 100 years to when the railroad was being built. The main house has loads of charm which compensates for rather basic facilities. I much prefer that over the more modern but characterless annex. The warm hospitality is shared with a few dogs that look very well fed indeed. The restaurant is a standout offering some gastronomic delights, such as the amazing trout in pine nut sauce. Not cheap but worth it. There are some great hikes in the vicinity also.

A lovely old hotel, it took me back to the sort of place I might have stayed with with my parents. A beautiful and delightful patronne. Charming room, with lovely embroidery and fabulous walk to the Cascade des Anglais.

Stayed here after doing the northern parts of the GR20 and couldn't be more happy. All of the staff were super friendly and I enjoyed every moment of it. The gite de etape and refuge is in a great standard compared to the others and the dinner at the evening is also faboulous. In summary, I would highly recommended to stay here instead of Vizzovona if you are doing the GR20.

We came here to spoil ourselves after the walking the GR20 south. This place is full of character and one can appreciate how much it costs to maintain a property like this. We were sleeping in an annex building with good, spacy rooms with an excellent bathroom. As this is a bit away from the road the quietness was excellent and I slept very well. I did use the third bed as I do prefer my own quilt and sheets especially as the room did not have air-co. The service in the restaurant was very friendly and efficient. One minor criticism, too much food presented in each course!

We stopped for a night here after finishing the first section of the gr20 and so to find a warm shower and a nice bed was simply glorious :) everything was very clean and the management were very friendly although most didn't understand English. We had dinner at their restaurant and the food was divine .... one of the waitress explained the menu in eneglish and we were very happy with our stay here nothing really to dislike
