Booked into this B&B at the last minute... As soon as I stepped in the place is spectacular. The host is amazing. I had to start work at 8. Breakfast starts there at 8 but made her way down at 7.30am to make me breakfast... Now when I say breakfast it was amazing. Freshly cooked,

Response from Miriam S, Owner at The Old Bank Bed and Breakfast

Thank you Marguerite for taking the time to review our home. While I'm aware you were travelling with friends who booked our home on your behalf, I think is only fair to correct some of the misunderstandings you seem to have. Firstly your Friends Catriona and Tony booked through our website so that they could enjoy the best rates available. In doing so they will have ticked the terms and conditions that clearly state Check in is from 6- 9pm and that our home does not accept American Express or Reward/Points cards and this is also clearly stated on their confirmation print out. We do accept American Express or Reward/ points cards as you correctly stated, which charge us an additional 10% on top of the standard 3% fee so that you can claim rewards. On googling the reward card you mentioned above. The Preloaded Qantas Travel card, you might be surprised to hear you receive 158 points per 100 Australian Dollars loaded. This was something you were unaware of when you presented me with the Card. I do not accept these cards as I do not wish to create a higher false inflator room price for all my guest to cover such needless costs and as Quanta’s is not a Bank, we are not obliged to accept such cards. While I'm aware that lots of Hotels accept arrivals from 3pm, We are not a hotel but a family home Bed and Breakfast. You first arrived to my home at 1.50pm without prior request when I wasn't at home and on ringing the doorbell and realising no one was home, your friend Catriona then rang me, which diverted to my mobile. I explained I was at the school collecting my child that I had to go and do my grocery shopping and drop my child to his friends party and the earliest I would be able to check you into our home was 5pm. (As a Family run B&B, once we accept guests into our home we are legally not allowed to leave and must be present at all times and I needed to run the above errands) In offering you the earlier arrival, I had to ring another parent in order to have my child collected from his friends party. You later returned to my home at 4.50pm, (earlier), and our home was fully set up to accept your arrival, open fires lighting, Candles, music etc. When you and your Friends arrived for your reservation for 4 adults sharing 2 rooms, there was an additional fifth person, a Child of approx. 9-10 years of age. I only charged an additional €10.00 and not the €20.00 as advertised on our website for this child. This in no way covered the cost of providing a fully cooked breakfast, Cereals and Juices , or the additional bedding and the change of room type to accommodate your friends which was all provided seamlessly to you. On arrival we take payment for all our rooms and this was when you presented me with your reward card, as above I explained why I didn't take this card and you were able to get cash from the ATM. across the road. I honestly believe that your room rate of €100.00 is AMAZING VALUE for a Ensuite Jacuzzi Four Poster bedroom with, Bathrobes, Slippers, additional Toiletries, mints, biscuits and tea making facilities, Wi-Fi, Plasma TV., Netflix etc. I accept that you say that there was light in your room and I would imagine when I was watering my downstairs window boxes the following morning at 7am, this may of been due to the roller blinds not been down. Your room rate also included breakfast for you and your husband. You clearly enjoyed our homemade soda bread, Muffins, Pastries, Fresh Fruit Salads, Cereals, yogurts and French pressed coffee , because in your own words, you told me it was the best meats ever tasted in a Full Irish breakfast. I passed these compliments on to my husband who is a butcher on your behalf. Our check out time is 11am and not 10am as you have stated above. This is clearly stated on your Friends confirmation sheet and on the check in form signed on arrival. I’m unaware if you know that your Friend Tony came down stairs shortly after arrival and threatened me with a TRT ( Trip Advisor Review Threat) and a Failte Ireland review threat. I asked him why and on discussing the three issues you had on arrival, 1. Arriving 4 hours earlier than my advertised time of arrival ( I went out of my way to welcome you 70 minutes earlier than this time) 2. Arriving with an additional 5th person for a 4 person reservation. ( I didn't charge full price) 3. Arriving with a Rewards Card, that I don't accept. I offered to accept any other card or cash. I was a little disappointed that your left the key on the counter without saying goodbye, but In life there will always be situations and demands that you can only manage to the best of your ability and I am happy so say that I did so as explained above. I really do hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip. kindest Regards Miriam & Family
