We got the first of 3 existing apartments. The apartment is not a luxurious apartment but it is clean and has all the basic things needed. What bothered us most was that there were no covers for blankets-there was only one sheet to cover The flow in the shower was weak, you could not hang the head of the shower hose After a dose of hot water, they would run out for about 10 minutes and then had to wait until the hot water came back One time we just went down to the sauna to shower Other than that, the neighborhood is nice, close to the metro and within walking distance of good neighborhoods and restaurants We did not mind the outside noise-there was noise only on the weekend on Friday night The free entrance to the sauna is nice, you can go down whenever you want Although there was not much traffic there during the week On Friday it was open all night The service of the sauna representatives is excellent and the bar is nice and at fair prices

I read the quite comprehensive review #1 and I assert that it is completely accurate. My take on this place - if you want to play for a night or 2 then it's perfect. If you want a good night's sleep, this is not your best choice. Why? The bed and pillows are cheap, the air conditioner is noisy, and the booming from the (mostly straight) clubs surrounding the building will go on all night. You are in the middle of Gazi, party central. But if you want to play in the gay area, the location is perfect. If you do not mind being in a big old spooky building after hours by yourself, then do it. I thought it was an adventure. A very unique Athens experience that I will recall fondly. And I love the guys who work there. They were sweet and helpful and made me feel good.

There are 3 Apartments for rent above the Alexander Gay Sauna in Gazi. These apartments are modern, clean and spacious. However the big selling point is the price.E50 per night! You can only book via email via their website. On arrival I rang the Apartments and arranged a time to arrive. The owner was there to meet me. He gave me a very warm friendly welcome. The apartments have their own entrance to the building apart from the sauna. The apartments are on the 4th floor. They are an excellent size and they each have a separate clean and well maintained bathroom. The apartment is really a studio. It comes with a sitting area, table and chairs, fridge and small kitchenette and bed. There is a cupboard with cooking utensils, crockery etc for your use. I stocked the cupboards with breakfast food, drinks and nibblies from the supermarket 5 minutes walk away. The Apartments are all glass on one wall and are curtained to keep out the sun. However it does get a bit hot so thank god for the wonderful cold Air con. There is also free Wifi. There is a TV with a range of international and greek channels. There are a few downsides to this hotel. There is no room service or servicing of the apartment at all during my stay. I didnt get a change of sheets and if I wanted fresh towels I had to go down to the reception to get them. This isnt a big deal but dont expect hotel service. The sheets were a bit on the cheap side and not many cotton bushes were picked for their production. There is noone on site from when the sauna closes at about 1 or 2 am until it opens again the next day at about 2pm. So you are on your own. You can call the owner who lives close to the property, however noone is on site.. There is no laundry service however the owner did a load for me as a favour for free as I was about to head off on a cruise. He is really a very generous host. Alexander Aparetments only accept gay men as guests. Most of their guests are greek and foreign men who come to Gazi for the nightlife and stay a day or two only. These minor issues are easily balanced by the price. This really is one of the best bargains to be had in Athens. I came to these apartments after spending a few days with friends in a 4 star hotel which was costing me E200 per night for a tiny room. I was very happy. The Alexander Apartments are located in Gazi. Gazi is an area that is known for its nightlife and is quite a youthful area. It is a suburb being gentrified. It is only a stop or two away by underground from all the major sites in Athens and Gazi is full of fun funky bars and Cafes. Overall I was very happy with my choice. I feel like I got to see a bit of Athens away from the tourist spots and saved alot of money. I ate at the local cafes, had a haircut from a barber with no english. It was all fun.
