Casa do Calhau Grande is a fantastic place: Quiet and relaxing with a wonderful garden and great sea-view. We have never been to the same place twice before since there are a lot of wonderful places in the world to discover. Nevertheless this year we are coming back to Madeira to Casa do Calhau Grande.

You can relax alone in a swimming pole, star to the stars and enjoy colours and essences of the garden. There is the best sunny weather in the whole Madeira. Although we were on Madeira at the wrong time (during the disastrous floods), the appartment we stayed at offered us everyting we could wish for: a cosy little appartment situated in a beautiful garden with lots of flowers and a small swimming pool. The setting allowed maximum privacy. Our host was very friendly and helpful, and in these special circumstances...

We had three wonderful weeks in Calhau Grande. Amiable landlord, gorgeous garden, very nice accomodation, pool... - you will miss nothing. Calhau is a really beautiful place and a good base for trips on the island. Actually no need to visit parks and public gardens - you will find all plants and fruits also in Calhau. We searched this accomodation...

We had a lovely time in Casa do Calhau Grande. The children loved the swimming pool (and the parents too!). The view from the property is magnificent and a warm welcome is provided by the owners. A great base for walking and discovering the island.

We booked this place through its website where the photos were lovely but when we go there we were very disappointed. It was winter and there were not enough blankets on the bed and insufficient heating, hot water, lighting and kitchen equipment. Also the wash basin was blocked and we had to wash and clean our teeth on the terrace for...

This property is sympathetically converted from a traditional stone-built villa set on a hillside in western Madeira. There are six or so separate apartments, each of which is very secluded. We stayed in "Junior House", a studio with a kitchenette, dining area, sofa and separate bathroom. The owners, Eva and Arturro, were around at the weekends and did their utmost...
