Detailed Reviews
Luis, Sidalia and their son Rui are locals who have owned and run this impeccable little hotel in the center of Furnas for years. While visiting, Sidalia baked a different cake for breakfast every day. Luis is not keen on travelers coming in through the side door; to humor him walk around the front and enter through the front entrance ;-).
Our room was large and airy with lovely paintings on the wall. Bathroom spacious. Well kept property. All three speak English. We did not try other languages. Just up the road from the 'cozida' restaurant and the corn cooked in the hot steam.
Tourism has suffered so much on the Azores. Please consider supporting local businesses. Just down the street is a Red Chinese owned clothing store that is destroying the local businesses by undercutting the prices.

Family-run hotel in the middle of town, more than just 2 stars, a small fridge plus functioning air conditioning - and you could easily give it 3 or 4 stars. In addition, a very clean hotel, which continues seamlessly into the rooms. The bathroom is larger and cleaner than in many 4-star hotels.
The breakfast in the family-run hotel was sufficient, fresh, and the home-made cake was an absolute must. The coffee could keep up with any Central European standard - finally. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. All in all, the hotel is an insider tip, and at very reasonable prices.
The only drawback - due to the location of the island in a caldera, unfortunately a lot of traffic on the main access road to the hotel, including at night the rattling motorbikes and trucks that accelerate hard because of a rise in the road, which makes it very loud in the room.

A small family hotel situated in furnas valley. My experience in this place was very pleasure, a very cozy stay and a wonderfull personalized service. The hotel is clean, nice installations and renewed. The rooms are spacious and clean. This hotel is geografically well situated, in the middle of the island, easy to visited all central and west part of São Miguel. The only negative point is the breakfast, it is a quite shine. In a overall comment this hotel have a great value of relation quality / price. I strongly advice this hotel for a three or four day stay.

Nice small hotel with friendly staff, very good big rooms, nicely equipped, clean. The breakfast is tasty and has a broad variety of products, lunches and dinners are also very good and for reasonable price. There is no reason to eat outside the hotel, it can be more expensive. There are also parking places at the hotel. It is located in the centre of the village close to the church and about 10 minutes of walk from the Terra nostra garden and Poça da Dona Beija.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Vale Verde for three nights in May, and we were very pleased with our stay. Our room was large, comfortable, and immaculately clean. The location is close to the center of the Furnas and is great for strolling around. We arrived fairly early in the morning after arriving from the states, and although our room wasn't immediately available, we were able to check in within less than an hour of our arrival. All in all, this was a great place to stay and I would stay here again.

We had a great experience at the Residencial Vale Verde. The hotel was a tremendous value with great customer service. Ask for Rui! We were touring the island by car and happened upon this clean and friendly family owned hotel. The room was very nice. It's really convenient to the town. There is free parking behind the hotel and we were able to park the car and walk to everything we needed to in town. Rui gave great recommendations on things to do and places to eat in town. The hotel has a restaurant and provides a typical Portuguese breakfast of bread and coffee with the room, but we were also able to get an egg and they cut up a pineapple that we brought for us. We really appreciated that they recommended a number of restaurants in town in addition to their own. Rui genuinely cared to make our experience in Furnas special. We highly recommend Vale Verde for travelers looking for a clean, high value

Stayed two nights in Feb. 2013. Found front desk clerk lacking in common courtesy..no hello or help when asked. Room was adequate but nothing special, place was clean. Restaurant not open for dinner but served mediocre breakfast..no eggs or hot course.
Location was good, free parking not on site but across street and was municipal.

We found this small family hotel to be one of the highlights of our 2 week stay in the Azores. We had originally planned to stay at Residencial Vale Verde for only 5 nights. But because of the excellent location, wonderful home cooked meals by Cidalia, warm and friendly family-- we extended our stay to 10 nights. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. There was abundant hot water, floor to ceiling balcony doors, and a comfortable bed. During the day we explored the island and came home to a delicious home cooked meal by Cidalia with excellent local wines. We would then finish the night with a short walk to the warm mineral foot bath just down the street. What a treat!! One of Roi's favorite expressions was "As You Wish". Well -- our wishes were granted beyond our expectations. We can't thank you enough Roi, Lewis and Cidalia! Will and Lisa

Family run hotel, still decorated in an old fashioned way and with keys to doors, etc. Super cheap price compared to other places. The balcony was fab, with views over the mountains, and the room was large and clean. The beds were very comfortable and had lots of pillows if needed. The breakfast was simple but the bread and cake was fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful when needed. Overall, it is good value for money.

We enjoyed our stay at the Vale Verde very much! All the comforts of a 4-star hotel with 2-star pricing! The owners were very kind and helpful, fluent in English. The rooms were air conditioned and spotlessly clean, the beds very comfortable. Continental breakfast was more than we expected. Walkable location to the thermal baths of Parque Terra Nostra and Poca da Dona Beija. Try the cozido at The Miromar Restaurant right down the street. Five minutes walk will take you to the incredible Calderas of Furnas! Highly recommended ... don’t miss the local color of the village of Furnas and this great hotel!
