We have just returned from the hotel. Despite some of the reviews, we found the staff were lovely and very friendly. Food was great, especially the choice and range. Hotel was clean, and well presented. Our only issue, which isn’t the hotels fault was the transfers. 3.5 hours from the airport to the hotel. No water, multiple stops to cram as many on one bus as possible. Not a nice experience on arrival. This isn’t my first rodeo, but I was surprised at the lack of concern and care and facilities offered for transfer. Yes, the roads and infrastructure aren’t great, but cramming a bus full is clearly about generating cash for the transfer company and very little about its users. Apart from that, we had a lovely time at the hotel.

My partner and I came for a relaxing week away for the first month of September. Overall, we would rate it a 3 out of five star facility. It is a very small hotel, about a 30 minute bus ride from the city centre and old town. Very affordable local bus service for €1.20, which you can buy from reception which was great. One pool area with good sun loungers. Very poor food choices for vegetarians, although we spoke to the chef about this on our first day, we ended up having to eat out everyday which got expensive. We always go all inclusive, and have never had to mention even being vegetarian as we can often pick up pieces here and there. It is also only a buffet for all three meals, there is no sit down restaurant. Other guests who were meat eaters also mentioned to us that the food was overall bland for them too. The all inclusive drinks were also very poor. All ‘splash’ knock off drinks, no coke/Fanta/Pepsi etc. If you are looking for a very quiet retreat for a few days, and are willing to go out to eat into the city, then this hotel was fine. But a week with poor food choices, no entertainment and not much to do, was too long. Our flight back was very late and they allowed us to stay by the pool and use their downstairs shower facilities for the day which was lovely. Lovely staff, but overall just a bit disappointing.

Please read before booking. Please check older reviews as I can’t understand why this hotel has lots of 5* reviews we booked this last minute. Got transfers from Heraklion airport which took about 1.5 hours via coach, is kind of out the way but we liked this as we didn’t want to be in the city areas. upon arrival the hotel was small however you can see this on the photos so it was expected. Check in was easy and was done online and they then took our suitcases to our room. We booked room 401 which was a junior suite and we had a ground floor room facing the pool. The room was a nice size, the bathroom is not a separate room but has a sliding door for the shower and another opaque sliding door for the toilet. Luckily my friend and I were close enough to not mind eachother using the toilet as you can hear everything The whole hotel is really small, the pool is small and the second pool advertised is actually a jacuzzi. For the first 3 days we could not get a sun bed as people were waking up at 7am to put towels on the sun loungers to reserve them which is really annoying however it was the only way to get a sun bed and we therefore had to copy to ensure we get a sun bed which is not great when you want a lie in on holiday. There isn’t enough sun beds for the amount of guests staying and this was an obvious issue throughout the stay. The first 2 rows of sun beds are nice comfortable wooden ones with cushions, the back ones are the uncomfortable plastic mesh type ones. Drinks -We had seen some negative reviews regarding a female waitress (I will not name and shame) who was rude and we immediately identified this lady within 20 minutes of arriving. As we attended the bar we said hello and asked for 2 cocktails, the response was blunt and not friendly and made us feel a bit awkward. On CHC imperial palace’s insta the drinks shown had fruit and garnishes in them however we were given two plastic cups with a clear drink and ice cubes, it was a bit of a let down, when asking if these were cocktails she gave us a huff and walked off. I have uploaded a picture of the drinks in the photo vs the types on their Instagram. I now assume those drinks are the ones you pay for , I don’t know either way the drinks were not nice. If you’re sat by the pool you have plastic cups and if you sit at the table and chairs you get glass but both drinks given were the same just the cups / glasses changed. The drinks at the bar are one in one out and you will get shouted by a specific lady if you don’t return them, we witnessed the lady telling off guests for not bringing them back once finished. There are no staff walking around the pool or sun beds picking up drink cups or bringing them to you. We stayed for 7 nights and this particular lady was rude for the first 5 days, it was awkward having to get drinks while she was on shift and she was not friendly at all. She was like it with nearly everyone and we spoke to many couples who felt the same. The bar area when she was on shift was quiet as no one really wanted to go up. It wasn’t until day after we had mentioned to another staff member about her that she cracked a smile, on our last day she poured us some kind of shot and was pleasant and asked if we would be back again. Unfortunately she contributed a lot to our negative experience of CHC palace as she was rude and worked at the place you visit the most on an all inclusive holiday, although we felt she was nicer on our last day we can’t ignore how she made us feel when we got there and for the majority of the holiday. Management - maybe consider moving people who don’t like interacting with guests to a different department where they don’t need to interact with them. Our room - it was a good size and like I mentioned before regarding the shower and toilet it’s not very private. our rooms were cleaned daily however we left the resort serveral times for days out and locked the balcony door and kept the air con on but after returning to the room the air con was off and the balcony door was wide open. This happened on two occasions before we rang reception and kindly asked them to lock the balcony door as it was found and advised it’s a ground floor room and there are valuables in the room, the lady at reception stated she would tell the house keeping staff this but said they do it to air out the room because of covid. We had met couples who were not on the ground floor and the house keeping staff had left their balcony doors shut.. however the next day they did keep the doors locked and air con on. The mini toiletries provided were not replenished after use and used glasses in the room were not changed but left. We did leave a tip for the house keepers as they did a lovely job of cleaning and often left the sheets in a bow shape which we thought was a nice touch. The food - ughhh. Breakfast appeared to be the best meal out of them all but it still wasn’t great, there was around 6 plates of hot food, scrambled eggs, bacon, looked like chorizo sausage and boiled eggs, beans etc. sometimes there was fried eggs. Then there was cereals and some fruit. I was hoping there would be someone making omelettes however there isn’t any cooks working there to cook things like that, the only people in the dining room was the waitresses. The hotel only has a dining room, no additional restaurants so you’re eating in the same place three times a day. Lunch and dinner we mainly avoided as it just wasn’t nice, all mix match or plain pasta with sauce. The food is reused so often see the same things and the left overs used to make something else. There isn’t a lot of choice. Beers are flat and wines are sour. Unfortunately we hardly ate at the hotel and ended up going out for lunch / dinner most days or walking to the local supermarket 20 mins away to bring back snacks to the room which defeats the object of all inclusive as we probably paid an additional €300+ each on food throughout our stay. The snack bar which is by the bar is literally a tiny heating container which only serves the cheapest pizza cut into squares I’ve ever tasted. The alcohol is all unbranded and wasn’t very nice if I’m being honest Room service - there isn’t any. You have to go to reception. When we arrived to our room they don’t give you duvets but a bed sheet. There was a bottle of water in the fridge as you can’t drink the tap water it smells like egg. After 2 days We rang reception and asked for duvets, clean beach towels and a bottle of water, the receptionist said they only give you bottle of water on your first day, after that you can fill the bottle up from a tap by the bar or buy it from the shop.. we had to go to reception to get duvets and when asking for a beach towel they said there was only one so one of us didn’t get one. How can you not have enough beach towels spare for guests !! We then had to walk through the bar / main pool area carrying our duvets and a beach towel…. Tv had 2 channels which showed English films but we can’t expect English channels in a foreign country so this did not bother us. The tv has Netflix and Amazon however it would not connect to the internet so was therefore pointless in the room. Wifi did work nicely on our phones though. Entertainment - if you could call it that, there’s someone playing a musical instrument once a week (believe it was Wednesday) and it was the most awkward thing to watch. First of all there isn’t enough chairs for everyone to sit at so people were having to sit on the sun beds, think he played for an hour and it was extremely boring. Apart from that there is no entertainment, every evening they play a little music from the speakers and people are just sat on their phones bored. Music turns off around 9/10. The lobby doesn’t have air con. There is a ATM machine in the reception area but this broke on the 5th day. There is a mini market in the hotel with crisps and snacks, think a crunch chocolate bar was €2:50. Adults only which is nice I really don’t feel this hotel is running at a 4* level, it’s definitely a 3. the drinks are rubbish and the additional snacks are pizza which is heated all day is dry. The food just wasn’t up to scratch. No room service and basically no evening entertainment. Staff wise throughout the day there is only the waitresses in the dining room and one staff member at the bar and then the receptionist, apart from this you don’t see anyone else. I understand times have been tough through covid but can’t help feeling let down by this holiday and wasting over a thousand pounds. I feel the staff are restricted to what they can do based on budget. Compliments: all of the staff (bar one) was very friendly and helpful. - hotel is clean - rooms cleaned daily Tips: If you walk out of the resort and turn left and then turn right at the first building you see there is a lovely greek restaurant which over looks the beach and has the most amazing sunset spot I’ve ever seen. We ate here most days, great food and very reasonably priced. You can eat fresh fish and request fish to be caught to be cooked the next day. You can purchase bus tickets at reception think they’re €1.20 each way per person and can go to the city of Rethymno, we really enjoyed this, 20 minute bus ride to the old city where there are lots of lovely markets and cafes. The beach across the road is a 10 min walk and isn’t a pleasant beach, it’s a pebble beach so sore on the feet and there are a lot of rocks in the sea meaning you can’t really go in there. There are some sun beds but watch for the yellow ones as someone will come down and ask you to pay for them. We took the bus to Bora Bora beach and kabu beach bar. Pay €8 for a bed for the day and they have a wide selection of proper cocktails (which fruit, garnishes) and food, would recommend this. Unfortunately we will not be returning nor will I recommend this hotel to anyone

The minute we checked in, we were offered by the owner of the hotel to take our bags to our room, family run hotel, immaculate throughout, food was excellent, rooms very clean, pool area very well maintained, drinks bar always manned but the best asset by far of this hotel is their staff, they could not do enough for us, I am definitely coming back here, thank you to all at the Imperial Royal hotel, don't change a thing, you've got everything spot on, thank you x

Hotel was really good, very clean and modern looking, no complaints apart from the food, not a great selection and quality, would recommend being prepared for going out for dinner into the city. Staff were so friendly, Irene was incredibly helpful and pleasant to deal with, always wanted to help and went above and beyond.

So our first holiday for a couple of years due to Covid.. it was a last minute booking… we arrived to a warm welcome from the lovely lady in reception.. having booked a junior suite we were informed that we had been upgraded to a full suite with a pool view.. Our suite was absolutely spotless with regards to cleanliness and comfort. The pool was fantastic.. quiet and clean. The pool bar was great although it would be nice if instead of serving bland brands of alcohol and soft drinks it would be good if they served ‘branded’ drinks instead ..albeit at a slight cost increase. Having read previous negative reviews on here regarding the lady serving at the pool bar we cannot stress enough how kind and funny and engaging she was with us . With regards to the food .. breakfast was great and ticked all the boxes.. lunch and dinner were sometimes a bit of a mix of things and to be honest it would be great if there was some local dishes on offer … maybe something that will be looked at in future. Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed our time and I think it’s reasonable for what you pay.. the staff are great .. and we had a great time.. keep the work up and tweak a couple of things.

We stayed at CHC Imperial Palace for 4 nights. So starting with the good things: The hotel itself was rather modern and generally very nice aesthetically. The beach was very close 4/5 minute walk, it was also quite quiet and therefore allowed for some privacy especially in the evenings. The room was spacious and nice. The front of house and restaurant staff were absolutely amazing Most of the staff spoke fluent Greek and English, with most knowing conversational basics of French, German and Spanish. They were extremely accomodating, we arrived after dinner and were saved a plate of food for our arrival which was much needed! Furthermore, they had no late checkout availability, but invited us to stay and continue using the grounds whilst maintaining our all inclusive benefits until the moment we sat down in the taxi to the airport. This included drinks, lunch, towels and other facilities. The entertainment was outstanding, sadly we missed the Greek night, but we had seen a saxaphone night which was absolutely amazing in the beautiful poolside area at night. Little mini market which was helpful for grabbing emergency items. (There is a more affordable small super market about a 10-15 minute walk east however). The all inclusive beer was decent, and most of the inclusive cocktails were also quite pleasant albeit a bit overly sweet/syrupy. Hotel uses a trustworthy taxi service who were amazingly professional, punctual and pleasant. And now for the cons: Food was mostly okay, not a great deal of traditional greek food other than the greek salad, we had pastitsio once which was great, and there were some cheese pies and some chicken gyros meat. The deserts were mostly quite good. I will add that I had not tried anything that was bad, it was all more than acceptable, but expected more from a 4 star hotel. The all inclusive wine was not great. Not much near, however you can buy a bus ticket from the reception to Rethymno (about 25-35m), which is very pleasant and I would recommend you visit. And a complaint: The older lady at the bar. Plainly put, confrontational, rude, grumpy, zero customer service, almost zero interaction if you weren't Greek. By far and wide the worst part of our stay, made it an absolute pain to get drinks, let alone ones that were made well. She did not care, she did not want to enhance peoples stay, she was not accommodating, she was not kind and pleasant like the rest of the stuff. She was on the bar post lunch which was sadly the majority of the day. She was outright rude to most people, and borderline shouting at my partner for not returning glasses, despite us having just arrived from breakfast. I will add that all of the other bar staff were professional, delightful, friendly, and all made the drinks well. This seems to be a really common issue in the more recent reviews, please do something about this. Overall our stay was delightful, we had a nice time in Crete and Rethymno and would like to return one day. Thank you to all the staff who helped make our stay overall great.

So, the hotel itself is really nice, all areas are clean, the rooms are nice and clean etc. Staff at the hotel are predominantly lovely, the ladies who wait the eating area deserve special mention! So what let's it down, the food, and in a huge way. It's a small hotel so I don't mind a small selection, what I do mind is that it's poor quality. I am just at home with a spam and egg from a greasy spoon as I am with fine dining. But when I book a four star plus hotel I expect a reasonable standard. When there was meat it was generally way overcooked, Chicken was always dry and bland, they even managed to dry out beef ribs! It's very sad that there was a massive lack of Greek food, it's a greek hotel! Why isn't there more greek food (We saw Gyros once) Overall the food was just very disappointing so be aware of this. MANY people fed this back whilst we were there so hopefully it will change

Positives: When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who was always happy to help throughout our stay. Poolside nice and good location. Beach bar across the road was very nice. Negatives: Not enough sun beds for the amount of guests. During our first visit to the restaurant. We were confronted by 2 ladies who were very rude, one older lady and one younger. I was in the middle of eating and they told me they close in 5 minutes and even tried taking my plate. Bearing in mind it was 9.00pm and the food stopped at 9.15. The hotel advertised a late sleepers breakfast from 10.30-11. When we arrived at the restaurant at 10.15, the same ladies, specifically the older one told us we were late and made us feel like we were an inconvenience and was generally rude. Overall the food in the restaurant was very limited. There was about 8 dishes on offer and half of these were potatoes and rice. I felt the amount they had charged for the stay at the hotel was not value for money at all. The lady at the bar was also extremely moody. When you asked for a drink she made no conversation or didn’t smile once. Again terrible customer service for the amount you pay for the stay at this hotel. My partner also lost her hair clip around the poolside during the day. She went back to check under the sun beds with no luck. The next evening, she noticed that the bar lady had her hair clip in her hair!!!! When mentioned to reception, they brushed it off. It was definitely her hair clip as it was very distinctive and from a shop only available in the UK. The drinks were very watered down, specifically soft drinks like cola and lemonade etc and were not very nice. It seemed this hotel was trying to do things as cost effective as possible, but still charging guests high prices. Overall I would avoid this hotel as we spoke to a number of guests around the pool who were also thinking of complaining as they had felt they had been ripped off. One other guest was also looking for another hotel to move to. I don’t understand the good reviews for the hotel. If you book it, your expectations will not be met. This is a genuine review from genuine working people who expected a little more for their money.

We had a beautiful stay in the hotel; nice and modern room and perfectly clean every day. Thanks to the wonderful and friendly cleaning team. Beautiful flowers/trees in the hotel and at the poolside. The food was good but I missed a bit more traditional Greek food. Also at the restaurant the crew was super friendly. And of course the Kabos bar; a special big thank you to Aspasia and Sakis for serving us every day with a big smile and the talks we had together about the life at Crete and many other things ☺️ We already miss you both! When we arrived at the bar, you already knew what we’d like…you really made us feel family. So in general I can only say thank you again to the whole team to make our holiday perfect, you have more than a great customer service level! Hope to see you soon again!
