My girlfriend and I spend 4 nights at the Hotel Mathias in Akronini, which sits on the southern tip of Santorini. For those who are looking for a bit of quiet away from the hussle and bussle of Fira and Oia, Akrotini is a quaint little villiage. You won’t find chain stores and dime a dozen souveniers but rather family...

My girlfriend and I spent 5 wonderful nights at Mathios Village recently. The hotel manager Kostas is a legend. He is direct and not afraid to say what he thinks, which some may not like, but he obviously cares about his customers. He organised everything we needed and gave us sound advice about the island (which by the way is...

While Hotel Mathios (variously called Villa Mathios, Village Mathios, Mathios Villas, etc.) might be a good choice as part of a prepaid package tour, I wouldn't recommend it for independent travelers. The hotel is nice enough and the base room rate isn't bad given the remote location of the hotel. But the management is slippery and it may cost you...

My husband, my son, and I had a great experience at Hotel Mathios. Santorini is a very costly island and we found Hotel Mathios to be the best value for the money. The hotel is located in a quiet location, with easy access (we found parking in front of the hotel every day). The rooms are very clean, and the...

My husband and I stayed at Village Mathios the last week of June for four nights at the end of a six week tour of Europe. We had originally planned to stay in Fira. I am just recovering from a long illness and through our research we discovered that it is necessary to negotiate many stairs at most of the...

My Greek heritage brought my husband and I to Santorini, and we were not disappointed. The biggest challenge was the transportation getting there, but the Papalexos family met us after midnight in Santorini, and welcomed us into their villa. Kostas rented us a small automatic car at a very reasonable price, and offered us tips on traveling the island. We...

Having read the other reviews (going back a long while in fact) the only way to begin is to note that it all depends on what you're looking for. Want the Santorini party scene? Go elsewhere. Want to be on a beach or on a cliff? Go elsewhere (and pay 10x the price)? But want a cozy, unbelievably friendly &...

I stayed at the Hotel Village Mathios with three of my friends and we had two loft rooms. The Hotel Village Mathios was exactly what we were looking for. A quiet out of the way place on Santorini. It's pool and surrounding gardens are beautiful and clean. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch by the pool and a great dinner in...

What an absolutely fabulous experience for anyone thinking of traveling to Santorini!! The Mathios Village Hotel is a family-run establishment that coddles every guest and makes you feel like family the minute you arrive! It was an amazing travel coup to travel to a place never before visited and within 20 minutes of arrival Mr. Kostas had a car rented...

My wife and I stayed at the Mathios Village for three days. We must say we went with reasonable expectations and were very satisfied with our overall experience. We were greeted warmly upon our arrival at the hotel and after an easy check-in process we met with the hotel owner Nikos to discuss any plans we had for our stay....
