The official name of this place is 'Aeginitikon Arhontikon Stylish Boutique Hotel', quite overblown for what one really gets. 'Archontiko' means a mansion of a wealthy, powerful person, an 'Archon'. A touch of it can be seen on the upper floor at the 'saloni', the parlor with old furniture and a painted ceiling, depicting the sun god Helios in his chariot. This place is open to everybody, but probably hardly gets used, since the place has no café or bar.

More difficult it is to find any style at this hotel. In the room? At breakfast? It shouldn't even be called a boutique hotel. I have been to accommodations, which don't fall into this category, because they don't have it mentioned in their name, but who were of a much higher standard with a similar price.

We probably even had one of the better rooms, one on the upper floor with a useless, narrow balcony, facing the big Agios Nikolaos church with its bells, well heard on Sunday mornings. The room was on the small side, but not as tiny as the very uncomfortable bathroom. It was sparsely decorated, had only one chair for two, no writing desk, just a small place for dressing in front of a mirror. Storage place was a problem. The fridge was so small that it could hardly take a big bottle of water (but one had been offered on arrival). Tea and coffee making facilities were available.

The bed with a lilac cover, not matching the overall colors of the hotel, was badly squeaking, when one sat on it. Luckily this was not the case, when sleeping on an otherwise good mattress. The air conditioning had a way of blowing very strongly onto the bed, so we had to switch it off in the hot night. In the wardrobe were just a few cheap cloth hangers of plastic. The big TV screen, which we didn't use, was hanging crookedly from the wall. At least in the bathroom were good free toiletries.

Towels were exchanged daily, which is not very ecological. They then were hanging to dry on the upper terrace with great views, spoiling the atmosphere there. Breakfast is not included, but can be had for a cheap price as of 8.30. Sitting at one of the tables in the courtyard, in front of the rooms on the ground floor, the friendly lady, who was also the room maid, brought a cardboard box for each person with quite a big choice. To have breakfast this way was rather annoying with all the wrappers, either of paper or plastic, around most items, even for the plastic spoon or separately for the wooden knife. Definitely no style and no ecology.

Since there is no real reception, we hardly ever saw anybody from the hotel, except the lady in charge of the rooms and the breakfast. At least the welcome on arrival by a young man was friendly and he came to our room to switch on the hot water.

Spent a wonderful weekend staying at this small hotel. This is not a luxury hotel, but the rooms are quite unique and atmospheric, and you awaken to the sound of church bells and birds. The room was very comfortable, clean, and there are nice indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. Very centrally located in Aegina town. But what gives it the 5 star rating was the owner who was so thoughtful and kind. From the moment he carried our heavy luggage upstairs when we arrived, to the moment he handed us breakfast and a hot cup of coffee as we were dashing off to make our early morning ferry, we could not have asked for more. He also gave excellent recommendations for restaurants. He epitomizes the kindness we found throughout our travels in Greece. Happy to recommend this hotel for those looking for character, and good service at an excellent price.

Truly a hotel like no other. A beautiful building full of history with typical rooms and a magnificent living room on the first floor. The welcome is very pleasant, the breakfast served in the small courtyard is copious. Located in the center of the city we appreciated.

We had high expectations because of good reviews on booking and Google, but we were utterly disappointed. The bathroom was not clean at all, the shower had sand from a previous visitor and pieces of soap on the floor, a yellow stain on the tiles and we found pieces of hair in the shower as well as in the refrigerator...

The bathroom trash can did not even open when you stepped on it and we had to open it with our hands. The space was very narrow in the room and in the bathroom, one could barely move, while there was a green stain on the body towel and two orange stains on the hair towel. Last but not least, the toilet cap was also broken.

Probably the only positive comment is that the staff and especially the young man that was working there was really nice and helpful! Apart from that, the whole experience was very disappointing, mostly due to the lack of cleaningness, especially during this trouble period of covid. Do not prefer it; actually avoid staying there at all costs!

I'm sure we would have enjoyed staying here July 2020 but the EU imposed a travel ban on US citizens so I was not able to travel. I requested a refund but they kept my money. Hopefully next year we will be able to go as I love Aegina and remember travelling there as a child yearly for vacation.

This small but picturesque hotel is situated a short distance from the port, everything is in walking distance. Even though is not a boutique hotel or your usual one, its character takes to back to the past.Every room is different and we saw them all , to we chose the one in the back courtyard on the right. The room was sparkling clean, the bed comfortable. The room had a flat tv, refrigerator, small bathroom, decorated with item from the past.If you dont mind the church bell which chimmes on the hour and every half its a great place to stay.As for breakfast its a treat since everything is personally made by the owner Mrs.Rena.Homemade marmalades(kiwi is the best) eggs, 3 sort of cakes, cheesepies etc.Being a diabetic ,it was great to enjoy wholegrain cornflakes and bread, Breakfast is served in the most beautiful area of the old mansion and the plates and cups were of a romantic touch. The hotel encompasses a 12 bedroomed neo-classical building. Beautiful frescoed ceilings upstairs, a lovely quaint inner courtyard where you can breakfast or while away your time. Situated about 100m back from Aegina Towns front, set between the Markellos tower and a local church (with ringing bells). Our room had two very comfortable beds, was scrupulously clean, an en-suite with shower. The building itself is picture perfect with thoughtful additions by the owner. What makes the place outstanding though, is the special lady who runs the show, mme. Rena. With her fulsome welcome, her supply of home made marmalades, cheese pie, cake , bread etc.
everything she does, says makes you feel you are staying with friends here. Can't wait to return with my wife next year.

our family's worst holiday experience ever.

the woman in charge ruined our family's vacation by overbooking the limited amount of rooms and transferred us to an inferior hotel out of city center.

the money was never returned back to us and we are now taking legal action against her and the travel agents involved.

be careful with this woman, she should not work in the hospitality industry.

extremely unprofessional behavior and definitely not reliable.

we highly recommend avoiding this hotel which is very old but good only for the location.

This hotel is not good value for money at all.

It is off the beaten track. There are better hotels to stay in round the surrounding area. Rooms are nothing special and the bathroom is tatty and not very clean or in very good condition. Owner seems friendly enough but don't be fooled as very expensive.

Much better places to stay

Our experience was very pleasant indeed. The host Reena is such a helpful person who will make your stay memorable. Very interesting breakfast as it is traditional Greek. The homemade bread and Jams are particularly yummy and can lead to over indulgence. We found it to be perfectly situated to explore all of the local shops and harbour front. Well worth the experience and very good value for money.
