We were suppose to be picked up by an ox wagon or a donkey car, to be taken to lodge, were suppose to be accommodated in Zulu huts, with breakfast and dinner included. Outrages price, but we were willing to pay because it sounded worth the while. Unfortunately we did not look at the reviews on TripAdvisor, we went on... More

Allthough outdated this is still a good experience to have during your trip in south africa. The people are really friendly and try to help you where they can. The trip to the lodge is 20km bumpy sandway with great views. We enjoyed the stories and the dancing and went horseriding

After some problems finding the lodge (after turning off the main road (sign "Simunye Zulu Lodge 12 km") keep on driving on the unpaved road until you find find the next sign ("Simunye Zulu Lodge Departure Point"; behind a fence). This is the old pickup point where you left your car in the past and were carried down to the... More

We got an off-season rate of R1, 940 for the double room at Simunye lodge and thought it was really worthwhile. We stayed in a very spacious beehive hut, which had sort of an entrance area, a big comfortable bed and a very big bathroom all made from rocks. Staying here was already an experience. :-) Simunye lodge is situated... More

The road to the entrance of the Zulu Lodge is bumpy, beware! Certainly when it has been raining the day(s) before. When you arrive, you get to park your car behind the "fence" and offered the choice to make the trip to the Zulu village on horseback or in the jeep. TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR CAR: OUR WINDOW WAS... More

Had high hopes for this experience!!i had looked forward to this for some time!!! The staff that met us were indifferent and did not offer explanantion of the lodge..we had to do all the asking with one word replies. The room was lovely, quiet and picturesque surroundings. The zulu show was clearly pantomime..the children were embarrssed and needed encouragement to... More

This is no longer a Protea property; it is owned and operated very well by the community itself. From our five kilometer trip into the valley on horseback -- we could have driven with our luggage had we chosen to -- through our morning with the chief and his wife, the stay was magical. We were accompanied by a guide... More

We stayed at the lodge while on a tour and for us, it was the high spot of the tour. The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful and the food excellent in every way. One could not find a more beautiful setting than this. It was a unique experience staying here. The Zulu evening was breathtaking with song and dance... More

At the old factory where we left the cars, our Zulu-guide 'Eric' welcomed us with coffee and tea before we got into the valley by horse (the children loved it).We were treated as we were old friends and everything was very spontaneous and pleasant. We joined the evening with the chief , one of his wives and the great dancers. The diner...
