We have been as couple for a few days, as we wanted to hike to the top of pico Fogo, what we did with a guide oranized from casa Marisa. we climed down a cave with a guide and fully equipped from Casa Marisa, and had a nice walk around and a long walk down to mosteiros by ourselves. As...

Casa Marisa was build on the lava from the last eruption of Pico do Fogo in 2014/15. Our room had a view on the Pico do Fogo, the floor is still heated from the Lava so the rooms are quite warm but with an open window perfect. The homemade food was always good - you usually have the choice between...

Honestly, after you visit Chã das Caldeiras on the island of Fogo, you will never use a word unbelievable so easy. This place really deserves such a word, but in the best imaginable way. Actually, when you visit Chã das Caldeiras you will realize that you are right in the crater of a volcano and even more, you are in...

Originally we had booked a room at Casa Marisa to go hiking, especially up the Pico de Fogo, but due to an accident of mine a few days earlier on São Vicente we decided to only stay down in São Filipe and just com up here for a day tour and have lunch at this place, since we had heard...

Perched on top of the desolate black lava flow of 2014, Casa Marisa transports you to a different, slightly frightening world. Here the floors are hot from subterranean thermal activity and at night, with all the windows and doors flung open for coolness, the strange sonic booms of volcanic activity far below become entangled in your dreams! Surrounded by the...

Travelled with my girlfriend to several islands in Cape Verde and we had a really amazing experience. Fogo was my favourite part of the trip and I believe the stay in Casa Marisa has a big responsibility in this opinion. If you are going to Fogo you have to sleep at least one night up in Chã das Caldeiras. The...

This hotel is the first one that has been rebuilt after the last eruption in 2015, when the magma swallowed most of both villages in the Caldera. The owner Mustafa - a multilingual engineer from Tajikistan, married to a local girl, Marisa - rebuilt an enlarged version of the previous facilities, with about ten ensuit rooms located around a nice...

The story is fascinating and huge credit to the owners for rebuilding the hotel so soon after the volcanic devastation. The floor is still very warm, even hot, as the lava deep below has yet to cool. Good food and a selection of beers and wine, including the owner's own brew. We spent a night here before climbing the volcano...

Came here as part of my honeymoon and had a wonderful couple of nights at the base of a volcano, which we climbed. The food is great, and the hosts are exceptionally friendly and helpful. It's quite basic but that's to be expected. Our only gripe was that the bed was VERY creaky so we struggled to sleep, but otherwise...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa Marisa 2.0 is constructed over a huge lava stream of the recent volcanic eruption of 2014. during this eruption Casa Marisa was totally destroyed. The reconstruction was finished 10 months after destruction of the original house. It is the only establishment in the Caldeiras with 24/7 electricity (solar) and warm water (solar, geothermic). The floors of the house are still warm from the cooling lava. It is perfectly suited for the start of the most popular excursions and professional information and organisation of all kind of activities are the expertise of the team. The activities range from easy walks up to professional niveau climbing and alpinism. Breakfast service starts from 5:30am! We speak Portuguese, Creole, German, English and French - and we do speak with you. The size of 14 rooms and a huge restaurant still provides a familial atmosphere and gives us time to contact all our clients personally. Cha Das Caldeiras is a remote, simple and very authentic place - and so is Casa Marisa. The luxury of the house is an excellent kitchen and local vine products and a very personal service, not luxury suites. We do give maximum attention to be sustainable. Almost all our food is from the rural products of the Caldeiras and the Islands of Cabo Verde, Marisa and all our team are born and grown up in the Caldeiras and we reuse water, all bottles and our energy is 100% renewable. We are happy to be established again in the Caldeiras and look forward to meeting all the inspiring people from all over the world. ... more   less
