As you arrive at DumaTau camp you cannot help being astonished by the view and location, right on the water at the Savuti Channel. The camp is really spectacularly located. Our room was stunning, far more than expected for a remote camp in the Delta. The rooms look right onto the river and wildlife can been seen there, and you...

Dear Thesurfmeetstheturf, thank you for your lovely review of the camp, we are so glad that you enjoyed the lunch on the barge and our "in-house entertainment". We are terribly sorry to hear that things did not go so well with your guide, it is very true that more often than not the guide can make or break the experience....

Dumatau was glam ping at its finest and my favorite of the four camps I stayed on my trip to Victoria falls and Botswana. Wilderness safari is fantastic and I found all the staff lovely and super accommodating. The tents were lovely and everyone had an amazing water view facing Namibia. I loved the light into the rooms and even...

Dear skiergirlnyc, Thank you for your fantastic review, we are so glad to see that you had such an enjoyable time with us at DumaTau. We have been very lucky to enjoy several sightings of the local Wild Dogs and are thrilled you were able to enjoy this too. It has been incredibly productive month for wildlife at DumaTau. Our time at Duma Tau Camp was filled with memorable moments such as a hippo rising up out of a mud bath in a nearly dried up pond, a surprise lunch for four of us on the float boat on the river complete with white table cloth and all the trimmings (as a group of elephants crossed the river in...

Dear Clare K, Thank you for your beautiful review, we are glad to hear that you had such a great time in our camp and on your activities with Tank. Botswana – Duma Tau First, to highlight the positive features of this camp. The staff are really terrific, in particular the kitchen and service team who were outstanding; among the best of any Wilderness camp we’ve visited. They have set a standard to be proud of! Dear Edward068, Thank you for your review, we are sorry the new layout of the camp is not to your liking. DumaTau means “roar of the lion,” but the elephant reigns here. This was the last camp of 5 camps we visited on our July trip and we had the most exciting game viewing, including a leopard feeding off a dead hippo and 4 big male lions having a territorial fight right next to the vehicle. Dear ChrisW311, Thank you for glamorous review, we are glad you had such a great sighting of Lions. The Linyanti experiences tremendous seasonal transitions: in summer brilliantly green and lush, while in winter it becomes a barren, dry and harsh interior away from the river. In the dry winter months, large herds of elephant and zebra stay close to the...

Of the three Wilderness Safaris concessions where we stayed last month, this was our favorite and where fortunately we booked three nights. "Tent" number 1 was pleasantly removed (maybe 100 yards) from the central dining and social facility, so a couple times we had to wait for a greater kudu or an elephant to clear the area where the raised...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Perhaps the best game viewing in far northern Botswana - from its newest and most stylish camp. DumaTau means "roar of the lion," but the elephant reigns here. The camp is set on a lagoon on the Linyanti River between two "elephant highways," affording unparalleled viewing of these iconic mammals, along with other wildlife. Together with sweeping, dramatic views of the river, the architecture of the camp expresses the explorer aesthetic, as well as the idea of space. There is an airy dining and lounge area, and a pool, all taking advantage of the superb view of the lagoon. Highlights DumaTau is located close to the source of the Savute Channel, with access to the Linyanti Swamps, floodplains and extensive mopane woodlands, thus offering an excellent combination of land and river. During winter, large elephant herds traverse the area. Chances of viewing leopard, lion and wild dog are excellent, along with other large mammals like hippo, red lechwe, giraffe, waterbuck, kudu, impala and occasional buffalo. 10 Tents (including 2 Family Tents): Rebuilt 2012; en-suite; spacious; raised off the ground; clear-storey window; 100% solar powered Experiences: Day and night game drives • Nature walks (on request) • Boating and barge (seasonal) • Game viewing hides • Catch-and-release fishing (seasonal) ... more   less
