Baan Panwa Resort and Spa does not quite live up to its name as it isn't thai massage available there. Quite small resort with only 19 rooms, but ok pool area and this is necessary when it is not possible to swim at the beach because of low water level, but it is possible to swim by walking about 200-300 m further away on the beach. The restaurant provides good food, but it gets a little boring when it is 2 km to the next one. Because of this it's fine with free bike rental. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful place without other tourists, shops and traffic, this is the right place to stay. If you love shopping, pubs, restaurants and other tourists, this place is nothing for you.

Ok so this resort may not be a 5 star resort but the grounds were lovely and well looked after. We were there for 5 nights with some of the group staying 1 or 2 nights extra. It worked out to around $40 AUS each per night. This included a full cooked breakfast and fresh fruit, juice, coffee/tea, toast etc.The rooms were spacious and very clean, but could do with a bit of a spruce up. The beds were excellent, very comfortable AND more important it had air con. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and happy to help out at any time. The swimming pool was awesome, very clean and well maintained, very refreshing after a hot steamy day. The resort is 'on the beach' however it's not suitable for swimming. But the out look from the Restaurant/bar area is really pleasant. Overall it was a very nice place to stay and it made for a great trip away.

My friends had their wedding reception at the Baan Panwa Resort & Spa. It was a beautiful setting for the wedding party, the catering was delicious and the event went very smoothly. The views of Chalong Bay, nearby islands and distant Big Buddha were perfect for photos from the afternoon on through sunset and the evening. It was a very peaceful setting where the mangrove trees are intact and from what it appeared, the trees and other foliage around the resort were thriving.

However, it's important to know since sometime late 2011 or early 2012, the Bann Panwa Resort & Spa has changed ownership and is no longer a hotel. It's now Bhavana Phuket Residential Addiction Treatment Center. I have no idea what their treatment programs cost, but they deal with drug addiction, alcohol addiction and offer a number of rehabilitation and detox programs.

My rating on this page is for what we experienced when the location was Baan Panwa Resort & Spa.

I saw some negative comments about this place already after I back from there, otherwise, I guess I would cancel my booking. But I am glad I didn't! This place was very nice, relax and quite. It is located quite far from the 'civilization', so it can be difficult to get there without a car or a scooter, but probably this makes it so quiet and nice. The restaurant serves very nice breakfasts in the morning and opens until 10 pm in the evening, but I saw some people stayed there even until midnight. BTW, lunch and dinner are also very nice and the price is very reasonable. Also, there is a gym as declared, however, it is very small and almost empty, so it is just for tick. But the outdoor pool is really big and nice. Staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. So my experience was completely different from other people who left negative comments here.

I had booked 3 nights here. Keen to take my money then tell me there was an accident in my room so I couldn't stay there for first 2 nights. I was moved to a substandard hotel about 5-7 min walk which I didn't mind but the hill was a killer. I made it known I was not impressed. After the first night I approached the staff and questioned about my room and she eventually admitted they overbooked. I got free lunch for compensation which appeared to be leftovers so there was no choice.

Breakfast was poor as the fried eggs were under cooked and cold.

It's a shame because it is in a nice setting and the room, when I eventually got to stay there, I have no complaints about. Only the fact that I hadn't had the full 3 nights there which I paid for.

If you're looking to swim at the beach there, you can't, as this is mangrove territory.

Please whatever you do, do not stay at this resort. It is a total scam. On their website they said there is a restaurant, fitness room, bath house, beach access, etc. and that is a not true! The restaurant closes at 3pm and I’m pretty sure they don’t even serve food unless there is an event. The front desk worker literally told me to go the neighboring hotel to get food. The fitness room is just a dirty room with a exercise bike from the 1980s. The bath house is a collection of dirty stalls filled with junk from the hotel that looks abandoned. The beach access is 1 foot of murky water and dirty sand. The “superior” room was dirty and had food splattered and hand prints on the walls.

On top of everything else, the “resort” is miles from anything else so expect to pay 300-500 baht to get a taxi to the nearest attraction.

The pool was nice...

Don’t let them run this scam anymore!

The picture is of their fitness room...

Fantastic place for people who wants calm, quite place for their vacation. Far from noisy places. I had been there for 4 nights. This resort has some pros and cons both. But my overall experience is excellent comparing to money they charge.

1. Room - 5/5. Very spacious, clean. Each room has a small backyard.
2. Pool and Surroundings - 5/5. It's clean and big in size. You can't see the ocean from pool. Location of breakfast area is fantastic. You can see calm green water while having breakfast. Go for Canoeing around mangrove forest. You will enjoy that.
3. Restaurant - 3.5/5. They don't have full fledged lunch/dinner arrangement. But it remains open till 5pm and server different type of snacks. They have very limited menu. But you can visit restaurant of Mangrove Resort just over the fence for lunch an dinner.
4. Behavior - 5/5.
5. Location - 5/5. For me it's best as no shop nearby. For people who want to shop little bit, or buy some local fruits, etc then it would be tough. You have to walk a lot.

We stayed at Baan Panwa for 12 nights. We had no idea that the hotel was that isolated from civilization. To get to Phuket town or some shopping will cost you 300-500 baht one way. You will need to take the taxi because that is the only way to move with a family. But if you just wan't to sleep and relax, why not.

The hotel itself looks ok, but the SMELL is terrible. It smells like sewer one second and the next the smell is old garbage. Maybe it was just where our room was. The walls are made of paper so you hear your neighbor fart. But the rooms very clean.

Food is ok and cheap. The bar closes 10PM so if you want a beer after that fill up your refrigerator. The word "finished" was often used in the restaurant. The staff was still very friendly both in the restaurant and the reception.

The beach is not a swim beach so we did not swim there. The pool area is nice but the water was really dirty and slimy. There was a few men working on it so it was probably broken.
A rich english person owns a villa close to the hotel. He has at least 3 guardian dogs who may attack you. On our stay several people where attacked by the dogs or chased by them. So don't let your children run alone one the beach if the neighbor is home.

So my conclusion is that I could stay at Baan Panwa for a few nights as a pitstop place. Nothing more than that.

I booked two rooms (like miniature chalets) for two nights. After later reading one very negative review (titled "SCAM! Don’t stay here!", January 2019, I got nervous, and considered cancelling. I'm glad I didn't.

Although that negative review was accurate, I think it was a bit unfair. Here's some comments on that review:
** The restaurant didn't have dinners, and the staff also recommended that we go to the hotel next door. Which we did. And loved! The restaurant/bar next door (about 2 minutes walk) was high quality, friendly, and not expensive.
** The fitness room was an embarrassment --- the fitness bike was gone by the time we stayed, so there was literally nothing in the fitness room.
** I don't know what the bathhouse referred to in that review was, but I did see an outdoor corridor of what might be showers and changing rooms. They did look a bit depressing, but we had no need to use them.
** The beach is a mangrove, but it is quite possible to walk along the beach, paddle, and even swim. We used the complimentary kayaks to explore a bit further out, and loved it.
** We initially had two "standard" rooms, which were perfectly clean. Actually, we liked them very much. Being outdoors, though, there were naturally some insects and small creatures, which led to us changing one room for one of their "superior" rooms. They changed this room for us for free (just for one night, but still, very kind of them). The superior room was significantly nicer, and we really appreciated this action by the staff.
** It is quite far from most things (apart from the hotel next door). I used their complimentary bicycle to explore a little --- there is a market, village, shop, etc. within about a 10-minute cycle. I got everything we needed there. I agree with the other review that it is far from Phuket town, and many other attractions ... but I think that was the point. We wanted to stay here to be away from everything else.
** The (outdoor) was indeed lovely!

Overall, as long as you know what you're looking for, I would actually strongly recommend considering here (though don't expect much in the exercise room).

Lovely small hotel on nice grounds with good swimming pool. You can use their kayaks - beware of low tides though! Great that it is on the water. Staff is very friendly, breakfast not great but OK, dinner is tasty. I recommend that you have a car so you can explore the surrounding areas. Great place if you like Southern Phuket and very good value overall.
