There's a gently sloping little headland on the northern tip of Samui, where private villas blend into the landscape of natural vegetation. This is Six Senses Samui resort, a place where you can laze by a vast infinity pool and lose yourself while gazing out to the sweeping panoramas of the Gulf of Thailand.

We stopped for lunch and received excellent service from Som and her colleagues. We chose Thai dishes - chicken with cashew nuts and a seafood curry with ice cream for deserts. We liked the complimentary small drink, crackers and dips while waiting for our lunches to arrive plus the hot hand towel. Their special “reverse osmosis” water did taste good. A very pleasant couple of hours overlooking the bay and watching the planes come into land. We has a short tour of the resort from Moon, one of the butlers, which gave us a good idea about the rooms and the small beach with snack bar. The bill came to 1,965 Baht with the usual 7% tax and 10% service charge.

Everything about this property is well thought out and constructed to make the guest feel absolute serenity. The mindful eye for the environment combined with the minimalist design are what make this brand my favorite in the world. There is no plastic - morning juices and toiletries are in glass, reusable bottles. Each guest has a private and spacious bungalow set far away from other guests. The spa is phenomenal and technicians were very professional. The food was perfect - fresh ingredients and (some/all?) locally sourced. There is a boutique with a nice selection of high quality clothing and beach gear. Relaxing at the communal pool with the ocean view stretching in the back is the best way to spend the time. The transportation to and from the hotel and the airport was in nice SUV's with a cool cloth and water bottle for each guest.
The one and only con was that there was construction on the beach when we visited and were unable to use it. We went jet skiing instead, which was really fun. However, when I asked the front desk about it they were incredible at problem solving - which I believe sets great hotels apart from mediocre. They recommended an amazing beach club in the town and set us up to get in and relax. The manager personally went around to guests during breakfast or lunch to introduce himself and inquire if there were any additional needs that could be met.
I would specifically travel to a new region just to stay in a Six Senses.

I was really enjoyed a 2-night stay of mine here at Six Senses Samui. The hotel is perfectly situated by the ocean facing two sides of Koh Samui with plenty of lush greenery throughout the property. The villas are perfectly maintained, each has a high level of privacy and comfort, especially their beds! Our F&B experience here was impressive with either Thai and Western cuisine selection, each of them has a good blend of local and global twist. Breakfast was nice with quite variety of food selection together with hospitable service from the team. Unfortunately that another outlet with a great visual spot was closed during our visit.

The resort has so many activities to keep their guests excited ranging from water sports, yoga and farm walk to collect your own eggs for breakfast. Thanks Sandy for helping me to do so. I did have a quick talk with the GM—Gary, who have a big passion for his sustainability projects in the resort. Keep up your great attempts on this!

After having spent a week at the Six Senses Yao Noi in 2015, this stay at the Samui Six Senses has not met our expectations.
First the positives : a beautiful location, very confortable, charming rooms and above all a very dedicated staff (thank you Sandy, our Gem).
Our room (Ocean Front Pool Villa Suite - nr 9) offered a very secluded feeling. Unfortunately its North orientation excluded any sunshine on the terrace and the pool, consequently a bit cold water. The proposed alternative didn’t offer this seclude feeling so we kept ours. Landing planes and frequent passages of boats are a bit annoying but not that bad. Rooms at the East side of the property, close to the little beach are offering a view which is partly ruined by an ugly villa estate. Difficult to understand why Six Senses has not bought that piece of land to secure the beauty of its property.

Mosquitos are part of the daily nuisance. We were warned and protected by repellent and mosquito nets but it could not prevent a couple of bites a day. Part of the game in such a jungle located hideaway.
Main pool is wonderful : big and breathtaking view.
Room prices are not minor (>50000 bath in our case) which is a known fact when deciding to go for this location. Being charged for non alcoholic drinks or a snack in the room gives a petty feeling. But when being charged 4500 bath for a 90’ massage, it gives the feeling of being financially milked. A consequence of private equity owners of the Six Senses concept ? Anyhow not contributing to a good feeling holiday.
The food is not up to standards : breakfast is average and menu dishes are in no way in line with the expectations of such a hotel. Largely tasteless and in strong contrast with the Thai food culture. Luckily plenty of good restaurants in the neighbourhood at a 10’ drive distance. Transport by hotel is very convenient.
A few advises
- for the management : improve the food or reduce prices to lower expectations, add a few ‘magic’ touches towards your guests like a flower in the room
- for owners : sell this property which is not in line with Six Senses standards

Despite above negative points I would like to thank all those who contributed to our stay.

Dear 658frederich, Thank you for sharing your candid feedback following your recent stay at Six Senses Samui. I was pleased to read your compliments of the team, GEM Sandy in particular, and the overall resort facilities. The resort's unique pristine peninsular is truly spectacular and agreeably would be more so with the adjacent bay, yet unfortunately we were not the first or last to set sights on this prime location. The peninsular does indeed point North and gives the feeling of being on an island, boasting sunrise and sunset views like no other on Samui (witnessed throughout the property). Interestingly the axis of the sun fluctuates as much as 40 degrees during the year, currently at its furthest South Westerly point; hence, the shading at your villa. I am sorry to hear you were bothered by passing boats and planes; unfortunately the head winds shift in November-December and so must the flight path affecting 80% of all resorts on the island. Rest assured this topic is frequently tabled at government meetings and every effort is given to reduce disturbance. Your comments on the food are most regretful and have been shared with our culinary team, along with the development team, as improvements to breakfast facilities are being drafted. Rest assured we take all feedback very seriously and in the effort to continuously improve all what we do and aspire to achieve. Kindly contact me at gary@sixsenses.com, as I would appreciate the opportunity to understand in more details and have the chance to make amends in the future. Once again my heartfelt apology for such lapses that negatively impaired your overall experience, all of which most regrettable... Yours sincerely, Gary Henden General Manager

We’ve just returned from 8 nights in this magnificent hotel and we’ve never been so sad to go home after a holiday!

The hotel itself is stunning with incredible facilities given how small the hotel is (only 66 villas). State of the art gym, 2 unbelievable restaurants, spa, 2 bars, a giant swimming pool and a white sandy beach. The rooms however are the highlight with comfy beds, coffee machine with unlimited coffee (fresh delivery of almond and cows milk every morning!), fresh fruit delivery every day, outdoor shower, yoga mats, giant bath tub, pool, more towels than you can ever possibly need.. the list goes on..

The best part of this place is the service. We’ve never been to a resort where you are so valued and we were treated like royalty from start to finish.

We will definitely return to this hotel and try out the other Six Senses resorts.

My partner and I had a fantastic stay at Six senses with two children aged 5 and 7. We had two excellent pool villa’s which were extremely comfortable and relaxing.
The service at the hotel is exemplary and the team do a remarkable job in providing a thoroughly relaxing and enchanting stay.
Gary, the GM, greeted us each day and took real care in listening to his guests need. Summer, the GEM assigned to look after us was extremely helpful in providing us with a ‘stress free’ stay. As well as the small details, she arranged for the children to collect fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast and organized reservations and other needs at the restaurants.
The hotel’s commitment to sustainability should rightly be applaud and an example for other hotels to follow. The whole setting of the hotel and the use of natural materials for construction makes one feel connected to the natural world in a way that other hotels would struggle to match.
Facilities are outstanding, both pools are well located to provide stunning views and the children enjoy the sea kayaking and pizza making by the beach.
We had a romantic diner at the private table at the ‘Dining on the rocks’ with the chef and Khun Bank providing excellent cuisine and service (as well as being our personal photographer).
Sidney and I are very much looking forward to visiting again soon.

@sixsensessamui is a sanctuary of unspoiled natural splendor and serenity that feels vastly different from the party scene raging in Bangkok, Thailand.

It’s not always easy to maintain a friendly environment. Six Senses steeped in local authenticity and implemented into local themed activities, such as Making Herbal Inhaler, Tibetan Singing Bowl, Co-Creative Space, Sustainability walk / Farm Experience, etc. That's what I like during my stay, truly an unforgettable experience!

We had a pool villa, it was perfect! It features a private pool which is a decent size and well maintained, there is a sitting area on the pool terrace, so you can request for an in room dining.
The main room was cozy with a high ceiling, air conditioning was excellent with an electric ceiling fan for extra cooling, indoor – outdoor living areas (cabana), working desk, mini bar, and spacious bathroom with an outdoor shower. It’s a perfect layout for a family.

Overall, I would highly recommend this experience, especially to you who are looking for a honeymoon / family trip.

We had the most amazing time at Six Senses Koh Samui - the location and lay out of the resort are fantastic, not to mention the staff who work tirelessly to ensure that you have the loveliest stay possible. The villa was spotless and incredibly comfortable.

We had several spa treatments during our stay and really enjoyed them. The staff were very caring and small details made it feel extra special and worth the cost.

In terms of location, the resort is definitely further out and away from the touristy areas however we used the shuttle which goes to the local fisherman’s village on two occasions. That said, we could have happily stayed in the resort the whole time given the choice of restaurants and menus available.

There is clearly a lot of thought that goes into the reduction in plastic use here - it is a very ‘green’ choice of hotel for those more conscious of their impact on the environment.

Really could not fault it - it is expensive but well worth it!!

Dear CHloeball04, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience at Six Senses SAMUI. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much and appreciated our location, layout, your villa, our spa, our sustainable practices and our friendly hosts. Our location on the north tip of the island indeed is a bit further away from the touristy areas, but indeed Fisherman village is only a 15minutes drive away and we now have a daily shuttle service. We hope to be welcoming you back to your home Six Senses Samui one day soon and the entire team joins me in sending you our best wishes and regards. Sincerely, Marieke Dijkhuis

From talking with some locals before our stay, clearly Six Senses has carved out a deep respect with the Samui population, and we found out why when we got there.
Eco friendly tourism, sustainability, carbon neutral… these environmentally conscious catch phrases are bantered about quite often nowadays, but when going on a luxury stay I’m more concerned about the pampering experience than anything else. Six Senses manages to deliver on both.
On day one, we toured around the resort and were surprised by the depth that Six Senses Samui lived up to addressing environmental concerns. They grow a lot of the vegetables that they use themselves, and they did away with cut and burn of vegetation by making their own mulch and keeping a herd of goats on site (a fun pastime for kids is feeding them). They also keep live fish, ducks and chickens, as well as having a workshop dedicated to recycling as much as possible of what they use.
The resort is set on a hillside along the coast, allowing natural elevated views of the turquoise sea from our villa, and where most other resorts go for a manicured look, here you’re most definitely a part of nature. This unfortunately results in a downside of there being mosquitoes around, which the resort deals with by providing free repellant everywhere in different forms. The views are spectacular, and the luxurious thatched roofed villas fit in nicely to its surroundings. Even though our villa has its own pool we still enjoyed using the larger resort infinity pool because of its beautiful setting. The sun sets directly opposite from where you sit beside the pool allowing for some stunning photo ops. They also have a great beachside pool too that gives great Instagram'able shots.
They also offer a lot of health and well-being activities, cooking classes and an assortment of water sports. We tried the couple’s spa. The open-air milk bath facing the sea was very memorable, and the masseuses were some of the best we’ve ever experienced. Most memorable moment though had to be our dinner at their Dining on the Rocks restaurant, which is a must try for any romantic getaway, let alone a honeymoon. The premier table there is table 99, which sits apart from the rest of the restaurant so is quite private, but it’s completely outdoors so it’s only available when the weather is good. It’s also in high demand so book it well in advance! The table comes with a bed seating which we lounged on between courses. When you do go there make sure you go before the sun sets so you get to really enjoy the view, because when it gets dark you can’t see that much out past the cliff. But, of course, you still have the moon and stars to gaze upon. Oh, and the food there is fantastic too!

We visited Six Senses for three days in December. The resort was like a seen from Fawlty Towers.
We had booked a pick up from the airport , when the driver arrived he said he was picking up other guests and that we would have to get a taxi. 40 mins later someone arrived that had been waiting in the wrong area?
Arrived and we were placed in a room right beside the restaurant. As the generator and noise from the restaurant was loud we asked to move, 2 hours later we were given a new room. We appreciated the help.
Go down to the beach for a swim. All of the staff are standing around. The pool was full of leaves and the beach full of rubbish. I was told I could help clean the beach and there were bins to put all the plastic, isn't that what the staff are for?
Three types of wine of the list were not available - could they get the wine from the two other restaurants at the resort - NO.
You have to do everything for yourself. Go and get beach towels, go up and order a drink , go back up and sign a bill, where is the customer service? I
Service was incredibly slow, the common areas feel dirty and there's leaves everywhere. Obviously the resort was badly affected with the lock downs but it felt like they have just received the keys and opened the doors to guests straight away, the hotel need so much maintenance.
The rooms are great, Dinner at the Rock is delicious and the staff at that restaurant provide great service.
The rest was a real let down which was such a shame as we were really looking forward to experiencing the hotel.
Fill the mini bar, offer snacks in the room, put ice in the rooms so you can have a drink whilst sitting in your pool, in the afternoon, fill the bars with great wine, train the staff and try to anticipate guests needs.
An email to management received no response - no surprise there.

Request a child friendly villa as you want to avoid one with a sunken bath that a child may fall into. Other children were staying at Six Senses when we were there and were in the restaurant most evenings enjoying their meals.

Dear kjphilip, Our Ocean Front Pool Villas are facing both sunrise and sunset side, depending on the location of each unit, but the sunset cannot be seen directly from the villas due to the angle. Should you wish to enjoy the sunset view from your villa, Ocean Front Pool Villa Suite would be your option. Hope you find it useful. Thank you.

Hi, there was no consturction near the hotel when I went a month ago. The hotel offers a shuttle each night into fishermans village but you have to make your own way back via taxi. Probably 20 mins away.
