We had a change of venue for our Christmas Dinner this year and for the first time my two sons and myself treated ourselves to The Saracens Head Christmas Day Dinner and we were impressed with the meal. There was plenty of food. The meat was tasty and there were plenty of fresh vegetables which were not overcooked but just...

Imagine it's a film where the star couple have the idealised Sunday lunch in an English country hotel. This was it for me last week. Wood panelling; a distinguished looking lady luncher in a perfect plaid skirt and pearls; three generations of a family with the grandchild's first Sunday lunch out; Georgian windows overlooking a quiet high street. An old...

Plus points - check in was great. I was travelling on my own and the wonderful receptionist Robyn was very welcoming and friendly. She offered me an upgrade to a double room and carried my case up for me. The room was well furnished, pleasant and comfortable and the en suite modern and spotlessly clean. Not a great view but...

The Saracens Head Hotel has become one of our favourite places to stay, heaped in history and retaining a lot of it's original features. We have visited several times, and it is our intention to visit plenty more. Always a lovely warm and friendly welcome from the staff who cannot do enough for you to ensure your stay is the...

Stayed here for 1 night on 15th January for my husbands birthday. Such a nice friendly hotel. Robyn the receptionist was so welcoming and friendly when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are really old fashioned with loads of wonky walls and plenty of character. We stayed in the old wing of hotel with a four poster bed...

Whether we were lucky or not I am uncertain but having sampled other Greene King establishments, it would seem that they either have a very serious management problem throughout the organisation or are perhaps over extended, as other reviews have commented. Fortunately our Sunday lunch today could not be faulted. Very well served, even down to the waitress's white gloves,...

I was fortunate enough to stay at this hotel, unfortunately only for one night. A grand coaching inn that is in the heart of the town. I didn't have an evening meal here but the breakfast was more than adequate and what an impressive room to eat in. I would happily return and despite previous reviews I had no problem...

An attractive hotel packed with history. Cosy and intimate public rooms. Friendly and attentive staff. Food in the main restaurant is reasonable and well presented. You can also order from the bar menu which extends the choice considerably. Rooms are fine and there is free parking behind the hotel. Comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. And now here comes...

Southwell is a lovely place with independent shops, restaurants and the hotel allows easy access to these and the Minster and its grounds and facilities. The hotel has an interesting history including the arrest of King Charles. Bedroom was very nice and bathroom en suite was large, very clean and generous shampoos etc. An extra plug for charging telephone, I...

Very nice Christmas Day lunch, was very good and felt like a real treat. Staff could not have been nicer. The hotel is steeped in history which I liked very much, and has a nice feel to it. Southwell is a very pretty town and the Minster is not to be missed.
