The room was basic, clean with bed net and fan. We have stayed here two times, enjoy the beach, watching the fish boats come and go. The food was always good and a good value, BBQ Saturday night Pizza in a wood oven on Fridays, always with a smile. WIFI is good and sunsets are better.

Due to the limited choices available in this small beach town, we had to avail ourselves of Barca de Oro's services on 3 separate occasions. Not once did they even come close to delivering: 1. We pre-booked a mangrove boat tour before our arrival, and the day before the tour we stopped by to confirm details. Only then did we...

Three of us shared a triple room for a couple of nights. The location is jaw dropping; right on the water. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ultimately decided to move to a new hostel that had air conditioning as it was really hot. Food and drinks are good. In general though, found Las Penitas to be a little...

Yes we love this village for being small and slow. It is part of its uniqueness. It was to have you around for chrismass week and we hope to see you again and enjoy our peace. Come back soon to Barca de Oro "where time stands still".

It was a nice treat staying in Barca de Oro. It is located right on the water, the place is kept very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are perfect for the price. We stayed in the eco friendly room and it was a nice nights sleep. The hotel restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices...

We initially checked into the Barca for 2 weeks in their eco lodges. As it turns out it feels like these are more of a marketing exercise. Effectively they are bamboo huts with some solar power and a cess pit dug underneath. If you are surf dude looking for a couple of night to crash somewhere, this is probably fine....

Hello, thank you so much for your time and comment. Well your children seemed all the time so happy and busy discovering. They seemed to be very happy. Maybe one bungalow for 4 was a not too good choice for so many days. Very happy that you enjoyed our food and atmosphere. Have a fantastic trip.

Amazing amazing amazing fish tacos. The prices are the best on the beach and the dorm rooms are clean and affordable. At $7 a night we slept in the dormitory, drank some beers/pina coladas and ate some authentic delicious dishes. I would highly recommend that anyone come here and check it out.

Me and my family were looking for unique experiences while staying in Leon, and discovered the opportunity to ride horses along the beach at Las Penitas. I had contacted other outfits in Nicaragua looking for tours that would also except my 7 year old daughter, but only the outfit from Barca de Oro would accept. I made a reservation about...

Was here for 3 days and two nights. Dorm is small but ok. They offer 3 nights for the price of two (low season). Great place to escape Leon with a mild sea breeze. Wander over the beaches and take a Kayak to the mangroves with a local guide (12 dollar rent, and 10 dollar for guide which can be...

I loved this hotel, the rooms were clean, the view is beautiful; there are great spots to relax in a hammock, the food at the restaurant was really good, great cocktails, one thing I didn't like is the staff told us our guide for the kayaking was English speaking and he wasn't; still a fun kayaking trip though

We ate at this restuarant while visiting Las Peñitas. The food was resonably priced for this beach town, service was good, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice and the open air setting kept an otherwise hot day from being unbearable. The food was good with large portions (for us at least). Out of the places we have eaten at,...

“I believe individual rooms are better? If you go to the beach on the weekend expect to pay a small fee for using the public huts. We had no issues using them without a fee until sunday. Sundays they are quite busy with locals with many food stalls being set up with fish and meats being sold.”
