With its little but refreshing pool in front of the Pacific ocean, El Belga Loco is a little and quiet hostal directly on the beach of Las Peñitas, close to the colonial city of Leon, Nicaragua. Each of the 7 rooms has fans, mosquito nets and a private bathroom equipped with a shower. Rest areas such as couch and tv inside the main building, but also hammocks and lounge chairs on the terrace give you the unique opportunity to relax after surfing or hiking and to cool off after visiting Leon. Drinks and snacks are available all day and breakfast is also possible. El Belga Loco provides you with WIFI throughout the property and free parking. EL Belga Loco is meant to be a "quiet, private and exclusive" place...and for this reason the access is limited to "guests only" and no children aged less than 10.

Detailed Reviews
I checked out all of the hotels / hostels in Las Penitas. I found this to be the best value;
Clean, bright and spacious rooms for a fair price. Comfy bed, 2 fans, and great water pressure in the shower.
The terrace and pool area are stylish and spacious. The stretch of beach it is on is super clean, and is tranquil as it is doest have bars and noisy restaurants right beside it like many of the other accommodations do.
there is a multitude of seating options on the terrace including 4 hammocks, a couch and countless intimate shaded and / or sunny seating spots.
The mojitos are delicious and finally;
many establishments here play unnecessarily loud music which isn't peaceful.......El Belga played great music that wasn't loud at all, which is perfect, so you can still hear the waves
Sylvana and her husband are the perfect hosts
And if you're a dog lover.....they have two amazing, well behaved dogs to play with
I give El Belga Loco top marks and highly recommend

I stayed here for 4 nights and had a great time. The personnel working here are fantastic and provide great service. The space is very comfortable and relaxing. Tours and day trips around NW Nica are also available at a reasonable price. All in all would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

We had such a wonderful time with our stay. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and the owners were very helpful, they offered great suggestions on where to eat and which tours to take and even helped make the arrangements. My husband and I work online and had no problems with the internet. There was even internet in the rooms which is unusual in Nicaragua so we were very happy with our stay! Highly recommend!

I stayed ten days in El Belga Loco and enjoyed everything. The room was nice with everything you need and the bed was very comfortable. Although the rooms are in the back I slept every night very well listening to the sounds of the waves.
The common area with a pool and some hammocks is a pleasant place to hang around and relax. Everything is very clean.
It is a bit outside from the center and most of the restaurants (but there are some very good restaurants close to the hotel). And to be away means on the other hand, you have the whole beautiful beach on your own and it is very nice and clean (compared to other parts of the beach). When you like it quiet its a perfect place. Unfortunately it is a bit diffucult to swim there (especially at high tide).
But they have good bikes for free , so you can always easily reach all places around.
The people in the hotel were all very friendly and helpful and organized everything I needed immediately.
Thank you for the nice time, I hope I´ll come back one day.

It is an extremely charming hotel, with beautiful and very elegant decor. Personally I really enjoyed the pool and the very comfortable room for a well deserved rest. The care of their owners and the boys excellent. In the evening we were in the pool and we were delighted with the kindness of your waiters. We wish to return soon to the family and rediscover Leon with this beautiful hotel.

I can be very objective about this review, since I tried 3 places in Las penetas (El Belga Loco, El Bomalu, and a Air BnB (Jenny’s)). I was supposed to only be here for one night. I loved El Belga Loco so much that I changed my whole itinerary to come back a week later. Silvana and Jonathan might be one of the sweetest and most helpful couple (also couple’s goals – they have been together for +20 years (don’t imagine a retired couple, they are hip and young and have traveled all over the place) that I have ever met (as well as Kiwi the dog, who loves to fetch coconuts in the ocean at sunset) - This little hotel has about 7 rooms, which are very spacious (I got to try two of them) - comfortable beds, and good sized bathroom, hammocks outside the door, a little safety box, clean-fluffy towels, even a little thing to put your soap for it not to get soggy ... so many little details that a lot of travelers don’t take notice in. Even though breakfast is not included, they offer a good selection (at very reasonable prices - and fresh home bread (what else can you want?)) – For lunch, you can choose from a little menu (The chicken Burrito is to die for, I had it 3 times – and one of the best lemonades I have tried). If you truly want to relax this place is where to go - The pool (a real one - watch out, other hotels in the region promote they have a pool, but they are kiddy pools, with water not going over knees (hint hint to my first sentence)) and garden area are a quiet place to relax, or lie down in a hammock to read a book. Silvana and Jonathan will recommend places near by to go eat that have a great quality-amount-price ratio.
This is the best value for your buck that I got in Nicaragua – and I really think it’s a bargain – I wouldn’t mind paying more (even if I was a solo traveler), it is all worth it. Silvana and Jonathan are quick to answer any questions, and communications was clear from the get go. WHEN YOU DO BOOK, PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT ON THE BOOKING WEBSITE – NICARAGUA HAS TAXES, AND THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR PRICE – YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY AT HOTEL – (I read the fine print so I wasn’t surprised like most travelers). There are about 5 employees (from kitchen, cleaning and security) that work at El Belga Loco – they are incredibly nice, always smiling, saying hi and making sure you have everything you need (don’t be a cheap, and leave a tip). If you are lucky, and love oysters, the security guard is also a “fishermen”, who could fish some for you at a great price – Silvana and Jonathan will take care of getting anything you need. I didn’t do any excursions, but the owners could also book adventures to your taste (visit to Juan Velarde, Horse back riding on beach, Surf Lessons, etc.) – I could go on and on about this place, in just a positive matter - Also, if I would have known that Silvana and Jonathan needed things from back home I wouldn't have mind bringing them what they needed (knowing I had enough space in my suitcase) - It is hard to get things in Nicaragua, and maybe when they first interact with you, it could be nice to ask them if they want anything. I highly recommend this place - you feel like you are visiting family.

without doubt the best accommodation i have stayed in on my travels over the last 4 weeks and at such a great price. Situated in Las Penitas which is a short taxi ride from Leon or alternatively you can catch the local bus.
Rooms are spacious and extremely clean with a seating area outside and Wifi to boot.
The hotel is a stones throw from the beach with its own pool which is an excellent option if the surf is up ! Plenty of hammocks, chairs and sun mats to relax on.
For me what stood out was the friendliness ad helpfulness of the staff, always smiling and noticeably always looking to assist or making sure the environment is clean and tidy, even when the boss was off the complex !
Sure winner for me and will check in again if i am in the vicinity.
Thanks for a great stay.

There's a great vibe at El Belga Loco! The staff is friendly and prepare really fresh tasty snacks and fresh delicious cocktails. The garden has plenty chill spots and the pool is clean.
The rooms are big, clean and have good beds.
We have stayed in more than 6 places in Nicaragua and this one is the best hostel to relax so far.
