We stayed at the Calabash Cottage at the Balenbouche Estate for 4 nights and it was such a fun experience! The Estate is managed by a lovely Austrian woman named Uta and her two daughters. We loved being greeted by all the friendly dogs that live on the estate, and our breakfast provided by Uta each morning was delicious. There...

WE CAME TO DO PHOTOGRAPHY: After a warm greeting we ventured out armed with cameras to explore this wonderful location in hopes of capturing its charm and splendor. I found myself enjoying the peace and tranquility; so much natural beauty along with the artifacts from a bye gone era, truly an enchanting sensation. The remnants of the sugar mill nestled...

Balenbouche Estate is a real paradise! We spent more than 1 month there and we enjoyed every single minute! Uta,Verena and Anitanja are amazing women! It is incredible how they care about Balenbouche...with so much love and patience and they treat their guests as a family members. We got married at a nearby resort and the day after, got dressed up again and went to take photos at different locations. We stopped at Balenbouche and were not disappointed. Upon driving in, someone came out of the house to say hello. We met the owner (very nice German woman) who told us sure, no problem to use her...

Still run by the family of the original owners and delightfully restored, this old plantation once had its own sugar/molasses refinery driven by a still intact water wheel. The gardens are delightful and well maintained and they have converted this historic location to a tourist venue with small villas on site.

I lead a yoga retreat at Balenbouche last week & was so happy to offer my participants such a sweet slice of paradise. The grounds are beautiful as are the accommodations. Everything the site says is accurate: the buildings are integrated into the larger environment so a lot is open air. As such, bugs and the natural world are a...

Returning to Balenbouche at night after a long day of driving, adventuring, and enjoying the beautiful island felt like coming home. The estate itself felt like our yard, and the cottage like our own little private home. We even felt like we knew the dogs well. Moreover, Verena helped us plan our itinerary for locations and local events, and this...

La Balenbouche stands apart from the other resorts we stayed at or visited on St Lucia. It is a genuinely family-run guest house which provides a characterful place to stay, friendly dogs, the occasional dinner, peace and seclusion. Our room had a faded charm albeit no hot water in the sink. The grounds are delightful but the two beaches are...

We just returned from a 3 day stay at the Almond cottage at Balenbouche and the trip was too short! We had stayed for a week in a house in Soufriere and happened to find this place as we were looking for something close to nature and unlike the sterile environments that much of the resorts offer. We were so...

I went to Balenbouche last July to celebrate the birthday of my local friend, but we had mixed feelings about Balenbouche. Although the first welcome was okey, they showed us the place and cottage, the cottage itself was not clean (forgotten). We wanted to take a look at the beach, but there was a bunch of dogs which came up...

When the couple arrived, the lady immediately said that she "hated dogs." Because we have several dogs and we didn't want them to feel uncomfortable, we asked them if they wanted to find another place to stay. Our dogs are not aggressive and actually very friendly, they are just alert and sense if someone is apprehensive or scared. Most of...

“Frangipani is really the win. However, if you're traveling as a group or with kids either Almond or Banyan is a good bet. There's more privacy in Almond. However, Banyan was sort of my favorite! It felt a bit Southeast Asian in flavor.”

“Note that rooms (cottages) are charming, unique, and have all the basics including kitchenware, fridge, stove. That said, the basics are basic--no A/C and nothing is particularly new. Everything is open to the outdoors.”
