A hidden agenda of mine was to stay at the Government owned hotel, Tourist Lodge (now Dighali-1) at Old Digha – more out of never having stayed there than of anything else, knowing well that the sea is not visible from the property. The booking done ( a breeze of a process on the net – we, the senior citizens are entitled to a princely discount of 10% on the rental), arrangements left to the ladies, car checked in, and off we were on the morning of Nov 28, 2022 of what would finally be a sweet little holiday amongst friends. Now, we were in for a surprise – the property is large with manicured gardens, a proper parking lot and a beautified reception area. We were welcomed as guests of honour and treated equally well during check in. The rooms allotted to us (next to one another) were spacious, well laid out with most modern amenities (aircon, kettle et al) sporting a decent washroom and a verdant garden overlooking verandah that was the cynosure to the eyes. The quality of food and the choices on offer was very good, the taste of the Indian cuisine was something to cherish about, and the staff well groomed to take care of the smallest requests of the guests! We were pretty much impressed, and if this holds good for all Government owned hotels, we must say that the persons responsible have undertaken a herculean task and achieved it. A special mention is a must for Mr Arup JANA (at the restaurant), whose sincerity and commitment to the job was commendable.…
Stay in West Bengal tourist Lodge ( Dighali ! ) near sea beach. Mohona is an attraction for tourists. They develop a new way to connect Digha sea beach to Shankarpur island visible from shore. * Digha Shankarpur Development Authority* New Jahaj Bari is also an attraction. I like Zoological Survey of India (Marine aquarium). Food and stay in Delux accommodation is enjoyable. Car parking space and bath fittings are okay. Spacious room is also quite good. Restaurant need improvement and skill personnels.
Many of us, especially Bengalis, consider Digha to be a good weekend gateway destination. But for those who are visiting Digha for the first time the main confusion arises from whether to stay in New Digha or Old Digha. The main advantage of staying in New Digha is the sea bath which is neither possible nor advisable because of the rugged and cemented shoreline at Old Digha. So even if one is residing in Old Digha, he/she will have to travel to New Digha to take a bath in the sea. But at the same time, it should be remembered that the sea bath at Digha is dependent on the time of high tide and low tide and during high tide, no one is allowed to go to the sea for a sea bath. Thus, keeping aside, the advantage of sea bathing at New Digha if anyone decided to stay at Old Digha then Dighali 1 (earlier known as Digha Tourist Lodge) is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay. Personally, in my opinion, staying in Old Digha is preferable because the place is livelier. Very nicely renovated after Yash cyclone, with almost no marks left of the catastrophe. New Digha is newly constructed and so full of hotels but lacks that life though it’s strictly my personal opinion. In old Digha the seashore is beautiful, the Marine Path, the park and the seaside sitting has covered with marble and tiles where one can easily go for a casual walk. The Biswa Bangla park is very well decorated. Beauty is enjoyable at night. A long pathway in front of the park along the beach goes from New Digha to Mohana. One can spend hours after hours sitting idle in front of the park at sea beach. Waves of sea, the tourists enjoying, and a number of stalls exhibiting lucrative items must certainly increase the pleasure. We stayed in Dighali 1 in the month of October 2022. The property was just 100-150 m distance from the seashore at a 2 min walking distance but free from any hustle and bustle. They offer four types of rooms – A.C. Standard, A.C. Deluxe, A.C. Super Deluxe and A.C. Suite. Among these, we opted for A.C. Super Deluxe room. All the super deluxe rooms are situated on the 2nd floor. So before going there we were a little bit anxious because from many of the reviews and youtube videos we came to know that the property does not have a lift and two elderly persons with us accompanied us. But after visiting the property we find that a lift was there, so we were a bit relieved. The rooms are very spacious and neat and clean. The attached bathroom was not very large but fitted with all the needed amenities. Every room is associated with a large balcony. As soon as we reach there, we were welcomed with a welcome drink. Since the check-in time is 12 p.m. so we have to wait for half an hour but after that, the experience was very good. For a double-bedded room, if any children above 8 years are accompanied by two adults, they charged 20% extra if no extra cot is needed and 30% extra if an extra cot is needed. The property has an in-house restaurant, that has a wide selection of food and desserts and the foods are tasty and hygienic. They offer complimentary breakfast and the options available in the breakfast are also good and sufficient in quantity. All the staff members present in the hotel are polite and courteous and helpful as well. The hotel has a nice grass lawn, parking space is available. 5 minutes from here, there is Digha Beach Market where every essential is available. So as a whole I give 8 out of 10 for this property. The only two points that I have pointed out are that the Wi-Fi signal is not very strong everywhere except the reception area and it is difficult to get the signal from the room. Secondly, you cannot enjoy the sea view either from the room or from the balcony. Maybe a portion of the sea may visible from some rooms (for example from the balcony of room no 303 a portion of the sea is visible where we stayed but that cannot be regarded as a sea view room) or from the terrace. But the other properties which were located near sea shore in old Digha (the hotels with sea-facing rooms) either have a comparatively smaller rooms or appear a little bit shabby from the outside (as appear to me as an outside viewer, may be wrong). Hence in my opinion Dighali 1 is the best hotel to stay in old Digha.…
Rooms are specious. Location of the property and the ambiance is good. Behavior of staff & management is nice. But regarding service there are some problems. Those are not so prompt as private lodges. Management should look after this point. Food menu may be enhanced. Otherwise the property is ok.
The rooms are spacious and the staff very courteous. The food is descent. There is a bar in the same compound, hence, its not a bad option for tipplers. The deluxe rooms have a balcony. They have a wide selection of food and desserts. The front desk even enquired if we had reached safely while we were on our way back home. The beach is 2-min walking from the hotel. Overall a nice experience.
Ambience is very good, rooms are clean & staff behaviour is nice.We stayed in AC super deluxe room in 2nd floor. Rent is also reasonable Rs 2500/- per night with complementary breakfast. We have visited during 16th to 18th Jan,22 bcz of COVID restrictions outside almost every things are closed so most of the time we spend in hotel only, having fully relaxed. The biggest funny thing is on 17th Jan night we were the only guest in entire hotel. I have stayed in this hotel earlier also but after renovation now it's far more better, overall we had a very decent experience.
It was a awesome experience ,we are really thankful to all staff members of this marvelous hotel for there customer service quality ,foods and room service.... special mention the manager named Mr Kaushik Paul....he is really a good human being....we again visit ....
I visited Dighali (formerly known as Digha Tourist Lodge) after 14 years for the 2nd time. The hotel is situated in old Digha and 2-3 mins away from the beach. Though, my room was not a sea-facing one, but the balcony was just beautiful. Room, bathroom and balcony are very spacious and comfortable. Very good food quality and very good staffs. 5 star for amazing stay in the Hotel from 19-03-2021 to 21-03-2021.
This is government tourism development property refurbished and renamed Dighali. Previous reviews said there are no sea view rooms. So I went for the cheapest ac rooms (standard ac double on 1st floor) and surprise I have a sea view room. Rooms 203, 202 and 201 have sea view. Overall the property is good. Staff lack soft skills but they are good. Food is good but a bit pricey. Complimentary breakfast is below average. Onsite parking of only 6 cars available but there are about 30 rooms.
Marvelous staying experience overall.. Amazing atmosphere, superb hospitality, delicious food.. And yes, I would like to mention about the Manager of the property Mr Koushik Paul n Team, they are brilliant in managing everything from Boarding to room service.. Kudos !! Strongly recommend.. A must stay @Digha
