Detailed Reviews
Yes of course they need maintenance work to be done but I highly recommend this place for its prime location. Ample parking space. If you are travelling with a tight/low budget then this is the best option. Big room with huge balcony. Power backup is purely by solar so avoid opting for a blower or a heater, because it will not work. Food is good. Recommend you to book in advance during peak season and especially Executive room. Choose a room with Mountain view (005 - 004).
In a way its a dead end of the road and in nearly 200 mt from KMVN there is a home stay "SHIVAYA". You can choose this homestay if you want some typical pahadi stay. If you are a Tea/Chaai lover do not hesitate, just go for it.

This is located near Mukteshwar Shiv Mandir, 5-7 min walk to the mandir. So like KMVN properties, a great location, perhaps the best. Ample parking space. We stayed for one night and had booked the four-bedded room. It is a nice room. Perfect mountain lodge look with wooden walls, wooden flooring and huge high ceilings with wooden beams. There are two big bay windows in the room, one facing the valley and the mountains and the other one facing the forest. There are two sofa chairs next to the bay windows so you can enjoy the outdoors from inside. There is also a long narrow private balcony on the side. Huge bathroom with 24x7 hot water. The package included breakfast and one meal. Food was quite good, vegetarian Ghar ka khana (rice, roti, salad, dal, sukhi sabzi, paneer, sweet dish) buffet style. For breakfast omlette, bread, puri-sabzi. Executive rooms are the best. Located in a separate building in front of the main building with huge lovely lawns.
Now the cons:
1. Hotel doesn't have any heater, can't provide even if you request.
2. Charging point(one) located at ridiculous heights without any tables. So your phone will be hanging while you charge. We had to take out TV point to charge phones.
3. Small outdated, old style TV.
4. Electric kettle without tea bags, milk etc but most of all plug point located behind TV almost on the floor.

We were on a trip for 5 nights in the month of November 2022, having three nights in Mukteshwar and two nights in Nainital. The journey started from Kathgodam railway station on 5th November at 5 AM. We were greeted by our driver Mr. Dayal Goswami (9758127038) with his brand new DZire. I had read a lot about him earlier in different reviews and was amazed to meet him and know him in person. He is a wonderful person, extremely well behaved, very accommodating with a lot of knowledge about the entire circuit. The first place we went to was obviously Mukteshwar TRH and put up for the day and subsequently two more nights. Now, this place is located in such a beautiful spot that it is actually beyond words. We had booked two rooms in the Jim Corbett bungalow which has an unhindered view of the entire mountain range from Kedarnath to Panch Chuli. On a clear day it is quite a sight to behold. We just lazed through our three nights stay mostly sitting in the balcony of the bungalow and savouring the brilliant spectacle that the mountain offers. We were there on the night of full moon and the entire range was flushed in the moonlight. If you are planning to make a trip in these parts do try to contact Dayal Goswami and trust me it would add a different dimension to your stay.
As I have mentioned before, we are immensely thankful to him for making the whole stay so much enjoyable for us. His mobile number is 97581 27038.

The only reason one should choose this property is its location, which is arguably the best in Mukteshwar, not only because of the fabulous view, but also because the major attractions of Mukteshwar are all within walking distance from KMVN Tourist Rest House. This perhaps also explains why one needs to book accommodation, especially the cottages, well in advance, and the prices aren't exactly cheap. Beyond that, it is like any government owned & managed place, with ordinary food & service. We had hoped to view the distant snow capped Himalayan peaks but the smoke from forest fires put paid to our hopes.

This time we were visiting Kumaun anticlockwise. Starting from Champawat to Mayavati, Mt Abbott, Munsiyari, Chaukori... As we had earlier visited other popular kumaun locations, i was looking for a location in sync with these places. A location to sit back, relax, walk around..and do nothing.
We zeroed in on Mukteswar. Travelled in from Chaukori through Almora. The last few kilometres were through a un-metalled track, a forest which reminded me of Binsar some 17 yrs back.
The hotel was renovated recently. I had taken the Royal category. The room was at the top right corner. Involved a bit of climbing but gave best views..of the sunset on the left and the snow peaks in front. The rooms are good. Staff are friendly. Parking is available. Food is reasonable & as expected in such locations. Morning tea, breakfast and (veg) dinner is included in tariff. The hotel is a location where the road literally ends.
The place itself is a picture Post card set up. The IVRI is a century old institute. Many cottages are dated 1897, 1902... The old world charm is unmistakable.
Go there and stay two days atleast...it will give you fresh oxygen for a year.

KMVN Mukteshwar is located at the perfect place, just 100 metres or so fr Chauli ki Jali, from where you can watch breathtaking sunsets everyday. It's a 5-minute walk to the Mukteshwar temple, so yes, you're prayers will be heard.
As for the rest house itself, the maintenance, service and staff were all perfect. The manager was very helpful, as we're all the staff. The food, which was part of the buffet, was very well prepared, and you don't miss the non-vegetarian.
But what I liked most about the stay was the promptness of everything. They adhered to their timings, and everything was done and brought at the time allocated/requested.
A must-stay if you plan a trip to Mukteshwar.

Pros
a) Best location in Mukteshwar : great views, and surrounded by forest on 3 sides " at the end of a cul-de-sac.
b) Helpful and polite staff, good service. Across the front desk, the restaurant, and the housekeeping
c) Food is yummy, even the picky eater kiddo was happy with all the meals there
d) Parking available, and convenient.
e) Rooms are spacious and Royal rooms are wood panelled, The Balcony attached to each room is enchanting. The trees touch the balcony on one side., and the feeling is of a tree house .
Cons
A) The unruly crowds a the temple make driving in and out a bit stressful : that is the only road. There are some complete lunatics who park haphazardly and make life difficult for everyone.
B) Monkeys are inevitable near a temple, and more so with forest surrounding the KMVN property
C) Need to upgrade some simple fitments and hardware. Knobs on the door would be good.
We are a family of 4, and stayed in 2 royal rooms as the 4-bedded as well as executive rooms were unavailable.

We have booked the executive room for 1 night. First of all you have to booked this property well in advance through kmvn website as most of the time this property is booked. Location is awesome I don’t think there is any other property with such a nice location. Executive rooms are spacious with very nice view. Please consider this is government property so ambience and furniture is old cottage style. Food and service also satisfactory. For food you have to visit main building that is little bit walk from Executive room.

Disappointed with poor facility and maintenance of rooms and premises. Broken heaters, broken kettles , bugs inside , poor lighting, dysfunctional intercom to name a few. Room charges are very high for the facilities provided. If it’s a hotel at a cool place near Himalayas , then rooms must have ample heating facilities for the customers all year round. Which isn’t the case. The only good point was the location and food .

I didn't book online . I booked from the KMVN office.
Super deluxe room has an unobstructed view of the valley from 2 no floor.
In addition, there is a new set of 4 rooms, right next o the viewpoint garden which have picnic tables and loads of flowers too.
Breakfast and dinner are generally included in the tariff but only veg meals.non veg can be preordered at additional cost.
Food variety & quality is not very great. Its Buffet with one non-vegetarian dish in form of Egg Curry. They make the quantity as per boarders. However, it is better than all the near by eating joint.
