One Partridge Hill (OPH) is a picture perfect, quaint and luxurious homestay in the hills. One sees homestays like these in movies pr described in books. The pictures don't do justice to how lovely the place is. Nestled amid apricot and peach orchards, it is the perfect getaway for you. The rooms are tastefully done (including the bathrooms), with most rooms opening up to a balcony or terrace, one feels like it is their own personal abode amongst the rolling hills. The beauty isn't what sets OPH apart, it is the impeccable service. The staff is highly trained, the food was excellent. They gave us different cuisines everyday including local Kumaoni which was my personal favorite. Every meal had us overeating. We also went on several hikes around the homestay everyday to work out all the food. :) There is something for everyone- nature walks, bird spotting, photography of the gorgeous hills, tons of yummy food, lovely rooms and a chance to disconnect. It was one of the most luxurious stays we have had in the hills. And I would recommend this to anyone looking for a place to unwind and relax.

We decided to take sometime off from our from our monotous life during the lockdown and planned a trip to Mukteshwar. We saw this listing on TripAdvisor and quickly booked it with the expectation of it being at least half as pretty as the pictures. But to be honest, this place is breathtakingly beautiful. It was perfect for our family of 8 (4 couples). The house is so well kept, with beautiful interiors, spacious rooms, and all the luxuries one would require for a comfortable stay on a holiday. We were very warmly welcomed by the caretaker of the house and along with him there was a cook and a helper to prepare the meals. The cook made sure he customized the meals as per our liking and was quite open to taking feedback. To top it all up, Seema, who's the host of this house, made sure we had an amazing time. We haven't come across a more accomodative and warm host than her. She even surprised us with a born fire on the day of Diwali. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we can't wait visit again.

The connect with Seema ma'am started before we landed in her boutique chic homestay in the quiet village of Satoli. We were mesmerized by this work of labour facing the Himalayan range. Every room was designed differently with a keen eye and sense of detail and a tasteful blend of design. It was like staying in some personal space. The highlights were ofcourse the view from your bed of the sweeping range, different sit outs, the lovely river picnic, personal service by the staff, the beautiful birds visiting us every crisp morning and at dusk. It surely a spectacle to watch them in the garden bursting with flowers. The luxurious bathroom was a dream. And how can I forget the evening showtime? At a fixed time the flying squirrel darts and swoops gliding gracefully from one tree to another. It sure left us mesmerized.. If you want to have an indulgent romance with nature: This is it.

This was our first Holiday post Covid. Infact, the first time we went out of our house in 8 months. Went there with family, 8 adults and two kids, and booked the entire cottage (4 rooms). We had the most amazing and relaxing 4 days there. Everything was perfect. Completely safe. Beautiful location. Great luxurious property. A beautiful garden right in front, with picture perfect views of the Himalayas. The staff on the property were extremely friendly and took great care of us. And the food was just outstanding. Loved our stay there, and would definitely plan a revisit next year.

We stayed at 1 Partridge Hill from Dec. 4 to Dec. 18, 2020. Having been home-bound from March due to Covid-19, we were looking for a break from the monotony of Delhi and also to getting lungfuls of clean mountain air. We were looking around for a get-away in Uttarakhand and the lucky break in the form of 1 Partridge Hill came as a suggestion from a friend. Our original booking was from Dec. 4 to Dec. 13. However, we were so enchanted with the place that we extended our stay. Luckily, Seema was able to accommodate us. This is a wonderful property nestled on a hill-side affording beautiful views of the snow clad Trishul Nandadevi range from every room. There are lovely trails around should you be interested in walking about in the hills. Places like Mukteshwar, Binsar, Almora etc. are within easy driving distance. On the other hand, if you wish to only relax and unwind with your favourite book in hand, 1 Partridge Hill is just the place to do it. It is an ideal place if you are planning a quiet holiday with friends or family, which is exactly what we were looking for. The rooms are very well furnished, clean and very well maintained. There is a cosy sitting cum dining room downstairs with a nice fireplace. Lalit, the Estate Manager, was very warm and solicitous. Lalit is an encyclopaedia of local knowledge and you can ask him anything that you wish to know about the places to visit (and avoid) nearby. Ever smiling and helpful, he made our stay very comfortable. The chef, Narayan Singh, produced food of exceptional quality every day of our stay. He is a versatile cook who can cook Indian, Continental and Chinese dishes, besides the local Kumaoni specialties. Overall, it was a wonderful holiday and we were glad we chose this place.

And so the family arrives at 1 Partridge Hill, at 1330 hours, famished, after a nonstop, picturesquely beautifully green, but winding hilly road, drive from Rudrapur. A hill abode with a welcoming charm, set off the main road, above, at a height, in order to get an uninterrupted view of the mighty Himalayas. On our arrival, they were shrouded beneath the frothy, creamy clouds, which would be unveiled only in the mornings for us to catch a glimpse of, before slowly disappearing away again. The large, single, patina colored door, is your entrance into the double storied home stay. A charming drawing room lies to the left. A hearth is where, evening after evening, for the 9 days we were there for, a crackling fire was lit. The large bay window at the opposite end, capturing the twinkling, diamond lights of Almora, in the far distance. On the ground floor lies ‘The Woodpecker’, with its en suite bathroom, replete with the usual toiletries, but, from ‘Biotique’. I guess a TV is a necessity, though to me it is an intrusion of the outside world. And one comes here to escape that. Isn’t it? The heater, fed with wood, adds the additional required warmth on chilly days and nights. Oh, and did a wood pecker come tapping when the room needed a christening? A wooden flight of steps leads to ‘The Whistling Thrush’, and ‘ The Jungle Fowl’. The latter, has the same TV, heater combination. Both rooms face the front of the property and hence the stupendous view of the snow covered mountain ranges. The sit out balcony runs almost around the whole house so utilize it as you will. Eat. Sleep. Read. Or, just day dream. I chose to absorb the sights and sounds of bounteous nature and to savor the peace and serenity of my natural surroundings. ‘ The Parakeet’, is a cute room for youngsters, which lies on the second landing. High twin beds, en suite bathroom and a private balcony all to one self. It probably commands the best view of all. Attention to little knick-knacks and bric-a-brac in the each room is in keeping with the names. And what do you think made the owners decide on the name? Because, a bew or covey of partridges took flight from this piece of land when it was being surveyed, and so the name of the estate was signed and sealed as, ‘1 Partridge Hill’. Interesting bit of trivia, I’d say. Meals are varied from Pahadi, (the local cuisine) and Indian to Continental and Chinese. Hence, meal times were looked forward to with great gusto. Include a couple of bonfire barbecue dinner nights on really chilly evenings and you have a dream holiday. And while you are outside, do download the Sky view app to capture the constellations as you go searching for your sign of the zodiac. Absolutely exciting! Our first night was a full moon night and to see the ‘chandra bindu’ rise from between parted clouds was a sight to behold. Nothing of what one sees and does in the hills is comparable to the same in the cities. We had a set pattern every early morning. Out for very long walks. Ah, to breathe in the pure, mildly perfumed and fresh air! And to make it exciting, often times we’d carry our morning tea with cookies and rusks and make a picnic out of our walks. Collecting an assortment of wild flowers to make one’s own potpourri. Bird watching and identifying is another delightful pastime. We even managed a picnic lunch by the side of the Kosi river, to celebrate a special occasion. A memorable outing, indeed! The sun dappled lawn, though we’d wish the sun would stay in this part for a longer while, is where we would eat our breakfast as the early morning risers hopped around looking for dropped and hidden morsels from amongst the grass. After that, sprawl out on the yoga mats, thoughtfully provided for and take in a snooze under the comforting warmth of the sun’s rays as the breeze wafts through the shimmering, dancing oak leaves that look like ballerinas with their green and white tutus. To have a clothes washing machine whose usage is chargeable, is a big wow. One can go up to Mukteshwar which lies about 20km away to visit the age old temples, for trekking and mountain climbing. ‘Kilmora’ for Kumaoni knits, handicrafts, cosmetics and local agri produce. Sitla, is an idyllic hill station with a few resorts. It is covered with dense oak and pine trees and offers awesome views. It is near Satoli, the area in which we were staying in. But, the best part of being in the hills, is that while you disconnect from the outside world, you start going in deeper to connect with the real you. You want to live in the now, in this moment, as you know that, this too shall pass. Come to 1 PARTRIDGE HILL and you will not be disappointed.
