Located in Gaurikund, GMVN Gaurikund is probably the best place to stay in that region. The property has Economy, Deluxe and Super Deluxe rooms. The restaurant serves delicious meals and it also has a cloak room to keep the belongings. GMVN Gaurikund is nearly 600 metres away from the Gaurikund taxi stand and one has to climb 20/25 stairs from the trekking way in order to reach the reception and a further climb of 10/15 stairs for the restaurant. The view from the terrace is awesome. Keep minimum luggage.

GMVN has constructed 3 camps at Shri Kedarnath dham. 1. Swarga Rohini cottages 2. Kedar Dome cottages 3. Kedar Kantha

All accomodation is located at next to the Helipad. Temple is at 500 mts from the camp.

The Swarga Rohini cottages are pre fabricated huts with bunk bed available @500 /- INR per person per night stay. There are 6 beds in 1 cottage with 2 rooms and attached bathroom with geyser.Tent Camp is available for 250/- Per person per day. Rooms are able to protect you from the cold weather outside.

The kedardome cottages have 10 bunk beds each for Rs 400 per bed. However these do not have attached bathroom.

Food is also offered to all the camp @130/- per plate. You get khichri, rajma, rice, poori and sabji. The quantity is more than enough for 1 person.

It is very crowded and we did our booking immediately after reaching kedarnath.

I visited in 2015 and noticed a lot of improvement in 1 year. A proper bathing ghat with steps have been constructed on the banks of the mandakini.

Also saw the Arati at the temple at 4:30 am. The beauty of the surrounding was breathtaking and so was the cold!
Stayed on 28 May.

Many shops , places to eat and dharamshalas ( reconstructed from the existing ones ) have started near to the temple area.

Only BSNL works in the area.

This only proves that Faith is above all!! Jai Kedar.

The property is maintained in a very poor shape. The restaurant food and service are very poor. Even RO drinking water is not available and the restaurant is not serving drinking water even when you are ready to pay. For the evening, night and morning when I stayed there, couldn't see any cleaning activities in the property. Breakfast is not available and the food served complementary as dinner is very poor. The cottages are made with metallic sheets and the rattling sound while opening the doors will not permit one to sleep. For a six bed tiered bed dormitory they are charging Rs.1400 per head for these poor facilities. I won't recommend this property at all.

But the hospitality, food and accommodation was far better at the guest House, Sonaprayag

My stay at the GMVN tent in Kedarnath was nothing short of a nightmare. The sleeping bags were of the worst quality imaginable, and to add insult to injury, the entire tent and mattresses were soaking wet on just the second day of the season opening. Despite the hefty price tag, the accommodation provided was a disgrace. While GMVN might be the only pre-booking option available, the pitiful state of the facilities makes it clear that better alternatives exist for the same price once in Kedarnath. It's a shame that travelers are forced to endure such appalling conditions due to the fear of not securing accommodation upon arrival. However, the sheer incompetence and disregard for basic comfort at GMVN are impossible to ignore, and travelers should steer clear if at all possible.

I visited Kedarnath Temple on 30 August (evening) - 31 August (late morning) with family including kid (10 yr) and senior citizens.

After Darshan at temple in the evening I tried to find acceptable rooms around the temple to avoid walk in the morning for Darshan.

However all the Bhawans and accommodations around the temple I visited/viewed were untidy and smelly. Because of off-season they offered very cheap rent for those rooms.

Due to bad rooms around temple, I decided to walk across the bridge over Mandakini river and reached Swargarohini/NIM camps by GMVNL. These are bunk bedded rooms.

I am very pleased with this facility by GMVNL for;

- clean rooms (must be cleanest in Kedarnath) with sufficient hot water supply. Clean towels for all. Clean quilts to keep everyone warm in freezing night at Kedarnath
- staff attitude - very helping and caring completely opposite to general stereotype of government facilities
- location - although not right next to the temple but this much distance can be easily walked by those who can reach Kedarnath. All my group members again walked to the temple in the morning without complaint
- Sevice - We were served morning tea at 4.30 am with a smile
- Food - We took dinner which was a Thali including sweet. Food was delicious as well as homely - not oily not overly spicy. Kids will accept this food happily.
- View - the room offered mesmerising view of snow clad Kedarnath mountain peaks during the morning
- Rate - 750 INR person per night - very reasonable

I highly recommend this facility to all visiting Kedarnath.

With this facility the stay in Kedarnath is decent and comfortable. No need to plan same day return journey after darshan.

Please book online on GMVNL website to avoid disappointment.

I didn’t book online because I visited at the low season in the rainy season with many roadblocks.

Please note that GMVNL has taken care of Yatris and has setup few different accommodations between Gaurikund to Kedarnath e.g. Bheembali, Lichauli, Nandi complex (where horses drop you). My review is only for Swargarohini/NIM complex because I haven’t visited others.

There are multiple GMVNL facilities and this review is for the GMVNL Swargarohini Cottages.

We stayed in four people in a cottage accomodation. It has two divided areas of 2 beds each. And access to the bathroom is through the rooms. So, that extent privacy is not great.

The rooms are clean, beds are sufficient to keep you warm, hot water supply is available, mobile charging points are available.

Also, restaurant serves a fixed thali for Rs. 130/- - Fairly fresh, warm, Decent food.

Temple is about 500 m away and one has to climb down and up a bit. Not very difficult.

Reservations can be done through GMVNL website. Go for it.

While our Trip to Kedarnath Yatra. We stayed at GMVN rest house Gaurikund. I appreciate their help to us as we were stuck in traffic Jam and we reached the resthouse very late in midnight around 2AM but they opened the Gate for us and they had put all our beddings for our stay. We were not able to call them as phone was not reachable due to rain and bad weather. Their canteen was also good . Room was neat and clean and all the beddings were fresh. Only thing to be taken care is washroom as they are not clean. Taps were leaking and not clean. They have different type of Dormetory , room or tent.

This review is for NIM camps of GMVN. This is about 1.5 km from the temple but is close to where the horses will drop you. If you are taking a helicopter, book Swargarohini cottages which are adjascent to the helipad and very near to the temple.
I had gone to Kedarnath with my family on Diwali. We were six of us with a child and three senior citizens. We actually had our bookings at Swargarohini cottages as we were taking helicopters. But thanks to Narendra Modi's sudden visit scheduled the next day, all chopper rides were cancelled.
We took horses, which was very difficult for the elderly, and reached there and had to walk a kilometer to reach Swargarohini where we were told that our booked cottage was taken over by the state administration. It was very annoying. GMVN asked us to go back to NIM camp (from where we had come) where they gave us a cottage with bunk beds. Thankfully there were no other people except our family in the 12 bedded cottage. It had two clean bathrooms and ample warm blankets. In any case there is hardly any other place to stay at Kedarnath than the GMVN facility. But they afford you a good night's sleep and there isn't much you can ask at such a place.
The only problem was that the service was very very poor because all GMVN staff were engaged in providing food to some 3000 officials and children who had been hauled up to Kedarnath for PM's visit. So no one had time for guests.
The food was terrible to say the least. But at least we got something to eat. Given the attention the guests were being given, I would say, it was good fortune. Because the next day they said there was no breakfast for us as everything had been fed to officials. When I created a ruckus the manager came and asked the kitchen to fashion something for us. We were fed some terrible pooris and chana for which the manager charged us Rs 600 and did not even give a bill. I am sure he pocketed it.

Very nice place a little distance away from the temple. Being Govt operated, it is well maintained but not 5 star. Best part is that hot food is provided to all at a nominal price Rs60/- in Sept 2015. I stayed in this guest house during Char dham yatra in Sept 2015. Had very nice experience and will definitely prefer to stay there in case I make another trip. Will definitely recommend this place over other options in Kedarnath
